* WHAT...Up to one foot of inundation above ground level
expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal
waterways.
* WHERE...In New Jersey, Cape May and Atlantic Coastal Cape May.
In Delaware, Inland Sussex and Delaware Beaches.
* WHEN...From 7 PM this evening to 1 AM EDT Friday.
* IMPACTS...At this level, flooding begins on the most
vulnerable roads in coastal and bayside communities, and along
inland tidal waterways. Some partial or full road closures are
possible.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
A Coastal Flood Advisory means that minor tidal flooding is
expected. Minor tidal flooding often results in some road
closures. Usually, the most vulnerable roadways will flood.
Do not leave your vehicle at a location that is prone to tidal
flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flood waters. The
water may be deeper than you think it is. You will be putting
yourself in danger and your vehicle may be damaged, leading to
costly repairs.

Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Mount Holly NJ 1213 PM EDT Thu Jun 24 2021 .SYNOPSIS... High pressure will slide to the east and offshore, settling over the Canadian Maritimes. A weak coastal low may pass to the east of the area tonight and Friday. A slow moving frontal boundary will move through the Great Lakes this weekend, keeping our area between the boundary and the high to the east through at least the middle of next week. && .NEAR TERM /THROUGH FRIDAY/... Update...Few daytime Cu have developed and temps have warmed about as expected. Few changes were needed in the grids or fcst. High pressure off the coast of Cape Cod will continue to slowly drift north and east this afternoon as a weak low pressure system lifts north up the coast. The effects for our area from the low pressure system will mainly be in the form of onshore flow, marine stratus, and a few scattered showers along the shoreline late in the afternoon. For most of the region, it should be another below normal temperature day under mostly clear skies and temps in the upper 70s to low 80s. Heading into the overnight, we'll see the marine layer push inland with most of DelMarVa and New Jersey at least seeing some clouds however I dont think we'll be looking at overcast skies tonight. As the low pushing north, the synoptic winds become southerly and we start getting warm air advection over the region. Dew points will also start to increase although it should still be an okay evening with temps in the mid to low 50s north and west of the urban corridor. Over NJ and the Philly metro area, temps will likely be in the upper 50s to low 60s as the light clouds should lead to slightly warmer overnight lows. Along the coast where lower clouds will be possible temps will likely stay in the low to mid 60s. Friday looks to be the start of a warm and humid weekend as an upper level trough over the central CONUS stalls out due high pressure over the Atlantic. Temps will still be below normal but should be warming into the low to mid 80s over the region with scattered cloud cover developing. && .SHORT TERM /FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT/... The high settles near the Canadian Maritimes by Friday night, with the weak surface low having weakened or dissipated over New England. Majority of guidance has backed off on any lingering showers for Friday night. So while a light shower can't be ruled completely out, have opted to keep things dry. With plenty of low level moisture hanging around Friday night, there still looks to be a good signal for fog development. The weekend will be the beginning of the warm up period as we move from below normal to above normal temperatures over the weekend. With the high to the east, the flow will shift from south to more southwest through the weekend. Highs on Saturday will rise into the 80s, with some 70s across the higher elevations of northwest NJ and eastern PA and in areas along the immediate coast. Moisture starts to increase and dew points will rise into the upper 60s to lower 70s, making for a much sticker feeling outside. && .LONG TERM /SUNDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/... This period features a high pressure to the east of the region and a very slow moving frontal boundary to the west. With the forecast area sandwiched between the two features, we will generally see more of a return flow across the area with a south to southwest wind through the middle of the week. This will allow for increasing moisture and, everyones favorite, increasing temperatures. With 850mb temps rising into the upper teens most days, it is likely we will see daily max temps into the upper 80s to lower 90s across the region. Dew points will remain in the 70s but with a little mixing during the afternoons, may drop into the upper 60s and become slightly less steamy. Unfortunately, there is nothing to kick out the high amounts moisture across the region until the front gradually pushes through, which may not be until later in the week. A pre-frontal trough sets up across the forecast area which may serve as a focus for mainly diurnally driven showers and convection each day, with increasing chances as the front pushes closer to our area. Additionally, with such moist air over the region and generally light winds, especially at night, it seems likely we will have fog develop, though exactly where and how dense is yet to be determined. && .AVIATION /16Z THURSDAY THROUGH MONDAY/... The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG, KILG, KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas. This afternoon...VFR expected with the exception of the coast where marine stratus and low clouds should start to move in late in the afternoon and may bring MVFR clouds. Winds, Easterly at 5 to 15 knots. Gusts up to 20 kt possible at ACY and MIV. High confidence. Tonight...Generally VFR across the region with MVFR/IFR possible later in the night mainly near MIV and ACY due to marine stratus moving onshore. Easterly winds around 5 kt, but may be light and variable at times. Moderate confidence. Friday...VFR with scattered clouds and possible lingering sub-VFR still at MIV and ACY. Light and variable winds Friday morning becoming mainly southeast at 5 to 10 kt. Moderate confidence. Outlook... Friday night...Mainly VFR. Fog possible overnight, especially towards morning and could become quite dense. Southerly winds 5 to 10 knots, becoming light and variable. Moderate confidence. Saturday through Monday... Mainly VFR. Patchy morning fog possible. Afternoon showers and thunderstorms possible. South to southwest winds around 5 to 15 kt with some higher gusts. Moderate confidence. && .MARINE... Through Friday...Sub SCA conditions expected through the period although seas will may approach 5 feet in the 15 to 20nm range offshore this evening for a brief time. Otherwise southwesterly winds will become easterly through the day today becoming southerly late Friday afternoon. Scattered showers will be possible late in the day and through Thursday night. Outlook... Friday night through Monday...Sub-SCA conditions expected. Southeast to south winds 10 to 15 knots with gusts around 20 knots. Seas 2 to 4 ft. Rip Currents... The long period swell remains the dominate swell based on NWPS guidance and supporting buoys 44009 and 44091. Guidance does suggest that the wind wave will become the dominate swell late in the day but given the onshore flow and long period swell we've opted to continue with a MODERATE risk for dangerous rip currents today. Low tide during the overnight hours this evening may see an enhanced risk for dangerous rip currents so beach goers should exercise caution. Anticipate the MODERATE risk to continue through Friday as the onshore flow is expected to persist through the day on Friday. && .TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING... Astronomical tides will be high the next couple of days as we reach the full moon today. There will be an onshore component to the wind for the next couple of days as well. For tonight's evening high tide, prevailing onshore flow preceding it will likely increase surge sufficiently to result in more widespread minor flooding. The most likely areas to see advisory-level flooding will be on the southern New Jersey and Delaware coasts, where winds are expected to be a little stronger.
