.SYNOPSIS...
A weak wave of low pressure will track over the region today as
another area of low pressure moving through the Great Lakes
pushes a frontal zone northward across the area. High pressure
briefly becomes established on Thursday before another area of
low pressure passes to our west on Friday. That system will
bring a cold front through on Friday. High pressure builds in
for Saturday. Another frontal system to our west will then
affect the area Sunday into Monday, with stronger high pressure
likely to build in behind that system.
&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
Complex system continues to evolve this morning with a large area of
low pressure centered over the upper midwest and another low over
the Carolinas that is getting absorbed into the larger system's
circulation with time. The upshot is that a plume of moisture
continues to stream north along the east coast with heavier and
steadier rain/showers just beginning to move into our eastern PA and
Delmarva Counties. This rain should continue to overspread the
region west to east through early this afternoon. Once the steadier
rain arrives, it should continue through at least most of the
daylight hours, possibly tapering off very late in the day to the
southwest. Given the rising PWATs and respectable dynamics, some
heavier downpours are possible. So a wet day overall, especially
this afternoon. While the air mass remains on the warm side, the
rain and clouds will hold highs down in the mid to upper 50s in most
of the area.

Heading into this evening, rain will depart from southwest to
northeast with most areas seeing an end to steady rainfall before
midnight. Total rain amounts with the system by this time look to
generally be around an inch except a swath of 1.0 to 1.5 inches
appears likely over portions of eastern PA from around Chester Co.
north and NE into Berks and Montgomery Counties. Locally, a few
areas could even get a bit more than this. Given that it's been
fairly dry and we aren't expecting convection we don't expect any
hydro issues beyond nuisances issues such as ponding of the
water on roads and low lying areas.

Despite the rain having largely moved out of the area by the
overnight period we remain highly saturated in the low levels as the
surface wave lifts northward. As winds turn near calm, it seems very
likely that widespread fog will develop tonight. Would not be
surprised if dense fog headlines are needed, but will hold off for
now pending the evolution of today's rainfall. With the cloudy and
damp conditions, lows won't fall too much from the days' highs, only
into the upper 40s and low 50s.

.SHORT TERM /THURSDAY THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT/...
A brief dry period is expected on Thursday as the region
becomes positioned between the exiting low to the northeast and
another low approaching from the west. Weak high pressure will
briefly build into the eastern parts of the Mid-Atlantic on
Thursday but will then shift back off-shore as an upper level
low moves through parts of the Midwest and the western PA late
Thursday and into Friday. With Thursday sitting as the lull
between systems and modest warm air advection, I went decently
above deterministic guidance for temps. MOS guidance is
suggesting mid 70s are possible and the median from the ensemble
suite of the NBM blend of models is quite a bit higher than the
deterministic run. Given we'll be under southerly flow
throughout the day and clouds will likely be thinning through
the morning its certainly within reason to anticipate that
temperatures will warm well into the 70s.

The surface low moving off to the north and west will drag a
cold front through the region on Friday. I've relented this
morning and moved towards the GFS solution as the 12z ensembles
all started to indicate that the weaker upper level ridge over
the north Atlantic would be the more likely scenario allowing
for a faster moving frontal system. The GFS has been the outlier
for quite some time but now the ensembles and NAM are backing
the faster system. Thus the precip will likely come through the
region Thursday night into the early morning Friday and be
displaced a bit more towards the north. This also means the
timing wont quite be as favorable as the GEM or EC for
thunderstorms. If there are any thunderstorms over the region,
the most likely time period would be early in the morning
Friday.

The upshot of that is that we are likely heading towards mostly
clear skies on Friday afternoon. Under clearing skies we'll
likely start to mix fairly deep which will support temps
warming well into the mid to upper 70s with 80's not out of the
question. As mentioned in the CLI section below, there are some
low hanging records for max temperatures on Friday with ACY/ABE
both carrying max temps records in the low 70s. With this
morning's forecast we are forecasting record highs at both
locations along with ILG/GED. The record at PHL is 80 and thats
within the IQR of the NBM so its plausible that we may tie or
break that as well. Once the mixing starts, the area will start
seeing strong winds developing behind the frontal system. A
strong low level jet will move over the region and gusts of 35
to 45 mph will be possible during a brief period Friday
afternoon. I tend to think we'll stay under wind advisory
conditions but I certainly can't rule out a non convective wind
gust of 50 mph.

The wind over the waters is a much trickier forecast as the
SST's are still sitting in the mid to upper 40s. So as the warm
air moves over the surface an pretty strong inversion will
develop. That stable layer may be enough to prevent the stronger
winds from mixing down, but only over a shallow layer. Mariners
with taller vessels will likely see much stronger winds than
directly at the waters surface.

.LONG TERM /SATURDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
High pressure briefly moves in for Saturday and temps will
remain well above normal in the upper 60s under mostly clear
skies. Heading towards Sunday, clouds will build ahead of the
next low pressure system and rain event. There's still quite a
bit of uncertainty in exactly how much moisture will be
available with the system so while we're carrying likely chances
for rain, its possible amounts could be fairly low. Gusty winds
will be possible again behind that system Sunday night into
Monday with high pressure building in over the region to start
the work week.

.AVIATION /14Z WEDNESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG, KILG,
KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.

Through tonight... Much of the next 24 hours will feature IFR or
lower conditions across the local terminals due to a combination of
fog, stratus, and rain showers. CIGS and/or VSBYs have lowered to
such levels already in most areas. A brief period of improvement to
MVFR or VFR may occur before 16z in between the ongoing fog/mist
and low stratus and an area of rain showers which will move in
by early this afternoon. But otherwise, mainly IFR/LIFR through
the period with rain showers today and the redevelopment of fog
tonight. Winds mainly east-northeast at 5 to 10 kt today, then
light and variable or calm overnight. There is also some concern
for LLWS, with model guidance trending a little stronger with
southerly flow aloft today. Will mention this in the MIV and ACY
TAFs for now, but some degree of LLWS is possible for PHL as
well mainly this afternoon and evening. High confidence overall
in widespread IFR conditions, lowest confidence on conditions
through 16z today.

Outlook...

Thursday...Conditions should trend towards VFR as stratus lifts
and any fog diminishes. Winds southerly winds around 5 knots.
Low confidence

Thursday night-Friday...MVFR cigs become more likely as a
frontal system brings rain showers to the region. Southerly wind
5 to 10 kt Thursday night becoming southwest at 15 to 25 kt
with gusts to 35 kt on Friday. Moderate confidence on pattern
with lower confidence in exact timing.

Friday night through Saturday...Becoming VFR with west winds
around 10 knots. Moderate confidence.

.MARINE...
Through tonight... On the Atlantic coastal waters, low end SCA
conditions are expected to continue through tonight as seas run 4
to 6 ft. Seas may run closer to 4 ft this afternoon before
increasing back to around 5 or 6 ft tonight, but will extend the SCA
through the entire period. On Delaware Bay, sub-SCA conditions are
expected. East-northeast winds shifting to southeast at 10 to 15 kt
today. Winds will shift to west at 5 to 10 kt overnight, but may be
light and variable at times. Rain showers are likely much of today
and this evening. Areas of fog are also possible tonight, which may
be locally dense, and conditions will be monitored in the event that
a Marine Dense Fog Advisory becomes necessary.

Outlook...

Wednesday night-Thursday...Marginal SCA conditions are expected
as seas on the Atlantic coastal waters subside slightly to
around 4 ft heading into Thursday. Winds south-southeast at 10
to 15 kt.

Thursday night-Friday... Winds and seas will likely increase back to
SCA levels, especially on the Atlantic coastal waters. Gales may
be possible right along the coastline so we'll need to continue
to monitor.

Friday night - Saturday...SCA conditions may linger into Friday
night before diminishing below SCA levels into Saturday.

temperatures ahead of the cold front could get close to record
highs. This is more likely south and east of the fall line where
