.SYNOPSIS...
A cold front will cross the region tonight into Thursday
before stalling nearby. A wave will move along the front on
Thursday, pulling it away from the region Thursday night.
High pressure will build into the region on Friday, moving offshore
over the weekend. Another frontal system may cross the region Monday
or Tuesday.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH THURSDAY NIGHT/...

Synoptically, a deepening mid-level shortwave trough axis across
Ontario will continue to push eastward into Quebec with a
surface low driving eastward in a similar manner. A trailing
cold front across the Ohio Valley continues to scoop up moisture
from the Gulf of Mexico and tropical storm Mindy. This front
will progress through the region tonight, although its progress
will slow as an area of low pressure develops to our SW.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect through midnight for
the NW half of our area. A line of strong to severe storms is
currently progressing very slowly eastward along the I-78/I-80
corridor and will likely maintain a severe threat through that
region over the next few hours given a favorable parameter space
(MLCAPEs 1000-1500 J/kg, effective bulk shear values around
40kts). Wind gusts remain the primary threat given the linear storm
mode, but can't rule out an isolated tornado threat as an area
of somewhat enhanced (>100 m2/s2) 0-1km SRH resides just
downstream of the current convection. Further south, convection
is beginning to get going over western Maryland and South-
Central PA, and it is possible some of this activity could reach
far western portions of our area in the next couple
hours(Berks/Chester) before it should also run out of steam as
instability wanes.

Finally, the localized flash flood threat remains over the NW
half of our area (where FFG remains quite depressed), as the
storms tonight will likely produce a widespread 0.5-1inches,
with 1-2 inch totals possible in the stronger cores. So far
there has been just enough eastward propagation of the system
to limit training, but it does bear some watching given the
system parallel flow.

With multiple waves of low pressure developing and moving along
the front, and the amplified nature of the mid-lvl wave, expect
the front to largely stall over the eastern portion of our area
overnight into Thursday morning. Consequently expect showers and
thunderstorms to continue to develop and track over NJ and
Delmarva through the morning, before finally shifting offshore
tomorrow afternoon. Given the slow nature of the boundary and a
decent moisture tap from the SW could see some inch+ totals over
the Coastal Plain of NJ, but given the high FFG over this area
not expecting any hydro concerns (instability will be limited
relative to today so no severe threat). Conditions finally
improve W-E later Thursday afternoon as the front finally
progresses and drier air filters in. Highs will be in the mid
to upper 70s and northwesterly winds from 5 to 10 mph.

&&

.SHORT TERM /FRIDAY THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT/...
High pressure starts to build in from the west for Friday
before moving overhead on Saturday. With the high dominating the
region, we should remain dry with below to slightly below
normal temperatures.

Daytime highs will be in the low to mid 70s on Friday with slight
increases into the mid to upper 70s on Saturday. Areas across the
southern Poconos will be even cooler with highs topping out in the
60s both days.

Overnight lows Friday night will be cool with light winds and clear
skies across the region. Temperatures will dip down into the 50s,
with some 40s possible across the southern Poconos. The air mass
should modify some for Saturday night and overnight lows will be in
the upper 50s to lower 60s.

.LONG TERM /SUNDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
Quiet weather will continue through Sunday as the high shifts
further offshore. With a return flow around the high, we should see
additional warming and high temperatures will rise back into the
lower 80s through much of the forecast area. Some slight increase in
cloud cover may occur overnight but we should still radiate fairly
well. The southwest flow will keep overnight temperatures warmer and
mainly in the 60s.

As we head towards Monday, we start to see some differences in the
guidance. What we see consistently on the guidance is a cold front
approaching the region from the west but the timing and strength of
the front differs, leaving us with an unsettled forecast. The
boundary may start to move in to our area Monday with the potential
for some showers or thunderstorms across our northernmost zones. The
boundary may stall over or near the area and with several shortwaves
crossing the region there will be the potential for showers and
thunderstorms to continue through midweek. Best chances at this time
still appear to be across our northern and western areas so we
continue to keep POPs in those areas. Strong southwest flow at 850mb
will bring in much warmer air and daytime temps should have no
problem rising into the mid to upper 80s through the midweek period.

.AVIATION /01Z THURSDAY THROUGH MONDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG, KILG,
KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.

Tonight...A complex TAF night with VFR conditions prevailing at
most terminals (apart from RDG/ABE) until about midnight when
restrictions in showers and/or thunderstorms will be possible.
After the rain moves out MVFR ceilings and perhaps some patchy
fog will reside over the terminals. Initial southerly winds
5-10kts will turn light and variable around 5kts by early
Thursday morning. Moderate confidence.

Thursday...Sub-VFR conditions expected through the morning and
potentially lingering into the early afternoon particularly I-95
and eastward. Showers will be possible over this same region
with thunderstorms possible at KMIV and KACY. Improving to VFR
from W-E in the afternoon (possibly VFR the whole day at
KRDG/KABE). Initially light winds turning NW 5-10kts in the
afternoon. Moderate confidence.

Thursday night... VFR with NW winds around 5 kts. High
confidence.

Outlook...

Friday...VFR with northwesterly winds from 10 to 15 knots and gusts
to 20 knots with a few gusts to 25 knots possible. High confidence.

Saturday through Sunday...Mainly VFR. Southwest winds 5 to 10
kt, with a few gusts 15 to 20 knots mainly on Sunday. High
confidence.

Monday...Mainly VFR. Slight chance for showers near KABE during the
afternoon/evening. Westerly winds 5 to 10 knots. Moderate confidence.

.MARINE...
SCA conditions on the coastal waters through tonight with southerly
winds from 15 to 20 knots and gusts near 25 knots. Winds turning
southwesterly to westerly overnight. Seas from 4 to 6 feet.

SCA conditions continue through Thursday night with northwesterly
winds from 5 to 10 knots and gusts to 15 knots. Seas from 4 to 6
feet.

Outlook...

Friday through Saturday...Seas will remain between 4 and
8 feet through Friday night, gradually subsiding on Saturday and
falling below 5 feet Saturday afternoon. The small craft advisory
will likely be needed through Saturday for the ocean waters.

Saturday night through Monday...Mainly sub-SCA conditions
expected. Southwest winds may approach advisory thresholds on
Sunday. Seas will mainly stay between 3 to 4 feet but may approach 5
feet on the outer waters on Sunday.

Rip Currents...

The high amplitude long period swell from Larry is currently
evident in the wave spectrum data at all our offshore buoys.
This energetic swell will continue to impact our area through
at least Friday, and potentially even into the weekend. As a
result we are forecasting a HIGH risk of Rip Currents through
Friday, and the Rip Current Statement has thus been extended
through Friday evening (with some potential it may need to be
extended into Saturday).

.HYDROLOGY...
Thunderstorms, potentially in a couple rounds, are forecast this
evening. Flash flood guidance remains very low (around 0.5" in 1
hour on average) across much of the area where we have a Flash Flood
Watch in effect. This watch is in effect from 4 PM this afternoon
through 2 AM Thursday. This watch serves mainly to highlight the
potential for rapid runoff of any heavy rain that falls given the
very saturated soils from recent heavy rainfall events across the
area. While this system will be fairly progressive, it will not take
much rainfall to cause flash flooding of urban, flood prone, and
other low-lying areas.
