.SYNOPSIS...
A surface low off the New Jersey coast will move slowly
northeastward just offshore southern New England through Monday
night. High pressure will build and persist across much of the
eastern U.S. this coming week, with lee surface troughing
developing in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic. A cold front may
approach the region by the end of the week.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TUESDAY/...

A weakening area of low pressure located off the northern NJ coast
will continue to meander NEwrd away from the area through Tuesday
morning. At mid-lvls the attendant closed low will also pull away
from the area this afternoon, with shortwave ridging briefly moving
over the area tonight (although some weak convectively-enhanced
shortwaves may be embedded in it).

Scattered diurnal convection will continue to develop this
afternoon, with some limited forcing resulting from low-lvl
convergence on the backside of the departing low. Although
instability is fairly high (MLCAPE values in excess of 2000 J/kg
over Delmarva), very weak flow aloft and gradually decreasing
mid-lvl lapse rates should preclude any severe threat. Given
Corfidi vector magnitudes of only around 10kts and increasing
PWATs/warm cloud depths there could be some localized hydro
concerns if any storms were to train along prone areas... but
given the anticipated limited storm coverage this threat is very
conditional.

Overnight there will be the potential for another round of mostly
showers (with maybe a few rumbles) as a weak convergence zone sets
up near the center of our area in association with a primarily W-E
oriented sfc.trough. Lift may also be somewhat enhanced by some very
low-amplitude perturbations passing into the mid-lvl ridge axis.
Given that the overall forcing is subtle, and mid-lvl heights will
actually be rising, am not as bullish on POP/QPF as consensus
guidance, and feel that Chc PoPs near the wind shift line are
adequate. Additionally we may see some stratus form over the
northern half of our area late tonight into Tuesday morning, with
this stratus possibly pivoting a little southward by Tuesday AM. Fog
should largely be limited to areas sufficiently north of the
boundary i.e. the Poconos and associated valleys.

Tuesday will feature a more typical summertime setup with warm/moist
southerly flow prevailing over the area, between the Bermuda High
and the a low passing over the Great Lakes. Highs should reach
around 90, and with dewpoints in the low-mid 70s we may approach
heat advisory criteria in the urban corridor (heat indices
approaching 100 degrees). That being said, it looks fairly
borderline at this time and with more substantial heat concerns
looking likely later in the week, held off with any products at this
time. The storm threat looks to hold off until late in the afternoon
(and mostly focused over the west), as the main forcing will be
associated with the prefrontal trough well to our west and it
remains to be seen if the activity will make it to our area prior to
the loss of daytime heating.

.SHORT TERM /TUESDAY NIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY/...
The Short Term period begins Tuesday night with a weak mid-level low
pushing away from the area. Meanwhile, a low amplitude mid-level
trough will push slowly eastward from the Dakotas toward the Great
Lakes region through Thursday and closing off over the Hudson bay as
it does so. Southwesterly return flow will result beginning
Wednesday with subtropical ridging extending from the western
Atlantic into the Southeast and strong low pressure across Hudson
Bay.

A few weak mid-level perturbations and surface troughing developing
from southeastern Pennsylvania into the upper Delaware River Valley
should be enough to initiate some diurnal showers and thunderstorms
both Wednesday and Thursday. Instability should be higher on
Thursday however (MLCAPE >2000 J/kg), so I suspect Thursday will see
the greatest coverage and intensity of convection. The column will be
fairly saturated (not much in the way of dry air layers) and
effective shear should remain limited (~20 kts or less), thus the
organized severe threat should remain limited. Nevertheless, some
water-loaded wet microbursts could be possible with the stronger
cells leading to at least some isolated severe potential.

The bigger story remains the potential for an extended period of
excessive heat and humidity starting Wednesday through the end of the
week. Temperatures and dewpoints will be on the rise starting
Wednesday amid the southwesterly surface flow with highs in the low
to mid 90s for most and dewpoints in the low to mid 70s. Resulting
heat indicies Wednesday should climb above 100 degrees away from the
coasts and higher terrain and some areas may reach or exceed 105
degrees. By Thursday, the flow turns more westerly introducing more
downsloping into the equation and thus temperatures should be a
couple degrees warmer with most areas forecast to see highs in the
mid 90s. Resulting heat indicies Thursday are forecast to rise into
the low to mid 100s. There won't be much relief at night with lows
in the low to mid 70s for most. The lack of any low-level dry air
leads me to believe there won't be much in the way of dewpoints
mixing out unfortunately. This period will need to monitored closely
for the potential of heat headlines (Advisories and/or
Watches/Warnings), especially for the urban corridor.

&&

.LONG TERM /THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY/...
The mid-level trough axis and associated jet maxima will slowly near
and pass north of the area on Friday. An associated cold front will
also push toward the area from the north late Friday into Saturday.
The GFS appears to be a little too progressive with this feature and
thus have trended the forecast toward a slower ECMWF solution.
Otherwise, the Long Term forecast remains on track with no major
changes made for the weekend forecast.

The excessive heat and humidity is forecast to continue through
Friday with the cold front slowly approaching from the north and
continued low-level westerly flow. Overall, the temperatures and
dewpoints appear to be quite similar to Thursday with highs in the
mid 90s and forecast heat indicies rising into the low to mid 100s.

Have maintained mention of higher end chance to likely PoP for areas
along and north/west of I-95 as this will be the area with the
greatest forcing and instability for convection. Details of any
potential severe weather threat remains a little unclear at this
point given differences in the timing of the jet maxima and cold
front to the north, but Friday could certainly see a little more
widespread coverage of thunderstorms and severe weather potential
given the synoptic setup. As the front sags slowly into the area
into Saturday and eventually stalls out across the region, chances
for showers and thunderstorms will remain for the weekend, although
thankfully with more seasonably temperatures.

.AVIATION /19Z MONDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG,
KILG, KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.

Rest of the afternoon... Mostly VFR although a few showers and
storms may bring temporary restrictions to some of the terminals,
but confidence in timing/locations is too low to include in the TAFs
at this time. Winds either light southerly or light and variable.
Moderate confidence.

Tonight... Some temporarily restrictions possible in showers after
midnight, and then some additional restrictions in stratus (mostly
KPHL and northward) into Tuesday morning. Winds largely light and
variable. Low confidence in southward extent of stratus and also how
low Cigs get.

Tuesday... Generally VFR once AM stratus clears, some storms
possible late in the afternoon at KRDG/KABE. S-SW winds around
10kts. Moderate confidence.

Outlook...

Wednesday through Friday...Mainly VFR, but scattered showers and
thunderstorms are forecast during the afternoon and evening hours
which may locally lead to ceiling or visibility restrictions. The
greatest coverage of thunderstorms is forecast to be on Friday,
especially along and north/west of I-95. Southwesterly winds 5-10
kts during the day and 5 kts or less at night. High confidence on
the overall pattern.

.MARINE...

Sub-SCA conditions are expected through Tuesday with seas only 2-3ft
and generally southerly winds gusting 15-20kts. A few thunderstorms
will be possible on the waters (particularly Delaware Bay) this
afternoon

Outlook...

Wednesday through Friday...Sub-advisory conditions area forecast
through the remainder of the week. South to southwesterly winds 10-
15 kts with some gusts up to 20 kts possible during the daytime
hours. Afternoon and/or evening showers and thunderstorms possible,
mainly Friday. Seas 2-3 feet.
