.River levels continue to fall along the Ohio River. All points are 
forecast to fall below flood stage by or before this weekend.

For the Ohio River...including Paducah, Olmsted Lock and Dam, 
Cairo...Minor flooding is forecast.

.SHORT TERM...(Today through Wednesday)

High pressure slides east today, and return flow southerlies
develop. Some gusts thru the teens mph are possible, mainly along
and north and west of the Ohio River. Highs will be seasonally
mild in the lower to middle 60s. Dew points look to buouy, as any
advecting increase will be offset by a good mixing environ, and
as a result, relative humidity dives into the 20s percentile
during the afternoon hours, yielding a fire weather hazard.

A cold front approaches from the west Tuesday, and with the high
to the east, the gradient tightens/resulting in a breezy
day...which helps warm temps toward/into the lower 70s for highs.
Gridded time/height cross sections show very dry rh with 300+ MB
condensation pressure deficits through the column during the
morning hours, so pops look to hold off til at least the
afternoon.

The front moves in Tuesday evening, encountering a destabilizing
atmosphere that has 300-400 J/kg Potential Energy support in the
0-1KM layer, though certainly the better such is to the south.
The surface tongue of dew points struggles into the lower 50s this
far north, and may be an inhibitor regarding sustained heavy
rains...but the models still output upwards to 1-1.25" qpf across
our TN border counties of western KY. This zone is now included in
a slight risk of exceeding FFG, due to the still recovering
grounds from the last bout of heavy rain.

The front's passage completes Tuesday night, while showers may
linger into Wednesday until the cooler/drier air fully overcomes
the column. When it does, we'll feel it in the form of lower half
50s for highs Wednesday.

.LONG TERM...(Wednesday night through Sunday)

The main forecast concern in the extended is the potential for a
frost/freeze Thursday morning and again Friday morning. A strong
1035+ mb surface high will build southeast and be centered across
our region by late Thursday/Thursday night as the 500mb long wave
trough shifts eastward. The associated much cooler air mass will set
the stage for subfreezing surface temps both Wednesday night and
Thursday night. The latest MOS guidance trends have inched downward
a degree or two with almost identical min temps each night. The
difference is the wind, which should stay AOA about 5 mph Wednesday
night, but become calm/near calm Thursday night with the surface
high centered across the FA. In the end, would not be surprised to
see temps a couple degrees colder Thursday night. The latest
assessment of the seasonal need for frost/freeze headlines in
collaboration with agricultural interests is that headlines will be
needed in many/all southern counties of our region assuming forecast
temps hold. The northern extent of any headlines will depend on
collaboration efforts over the next couple days. For now, will
continue to mention freeze potential in the HWO.

Otherwise, the extended period looks to remain dry as the surface
high gradually shifts eastward over the weekend. This will result in
a transition from below normal temps Thursday and Friday to above
normal over the weekend...with max temps around 70 by Sunday. A
500mb short wave trough is forecast to move east across the FA
Saturday but it expected to do no more than bring a few clouds.

High pressure over the Tennessee River Valley will shift to the
east today, allow return flow southerlies to develop. Some gusts,
mainly in the afternoon, are possible. With the high to the east,
and a cold front's approach from the west on Tuesday, we should
ultimately see some moisture return pooling along/ahead of its
advance, but gridded time/height cross sections keep a bone dry
VFR atmosphere until at least Tuesday afternoon.

Illinois, southwest Indiana, western Kentucky, and southeast
Missouri.

.DAY ONE...Today and Tonight

South winds will gust 15 to 25 mph this afternoon, mainly along
and west of the Ohio River. Relative humidity will drop into the
20s percentile during the afternoon.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Tuesday through Sunday

Tuesday is breezy with south winds gusting into the 20 to 30 mph
range through the day.

Thunderstorms are possible Tuesday afternoon and evening,
continuing Tuesday night. Lightning and heavy rain are the main
storm hazards to expect.

Frost is forecast both Wednesday night and especially Thursday
night, as low temperatures below freezing occur. Any vulnerable
early spring growth may require protection.
