.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure builds in through Sunday. A warm front will
impact the region Sunday night through early Monday, followed by
a cold front Monday night. High pressure settles over the area
on Tuesday, followed by weak and quick moving low pressure
Wednesday and early Wednesday night. High pressure will return
on Thursday with another series of frontal systems potentially
approaching for late in the week and next weekend.

&&

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM SUNDAY MORNING/...
Occasionally gusty w/nw winds expected behind a cold frontal
passage through midnight. Winds will diminish towards daybreak.

Tricky temp forecast, with intervals of high clouds overnight
and a period of better mixing between 11pm and 4am having
temperatures fluctuate outside of the more urban areas.
Temperatures overnight will vary from the lower to mid 20s
for far outlying inland and pine barren areas, while mid 30s
for city.

.SHORT TERM /6 AM SUNDAY MORNING THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT/...
Quiet and seasonable day expected on Sunday. Gusty winds decrease
Sunday morning as high pressure becomes centered over the region.
High pressure will continue to move offshore late on Sunday,
resulting in a more southeasterly flow. Mid to high level clouds
increase late on Sunday as a frontal system tracks towards the area.
High temperatures will be in the low to mid 40s.

.LONG TERM /MONDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/...
A warm front will move through the area to begin the period
early on Monday. Any showers should be around for the first half
of the day with mainly chance POPs going down to slight chance
in most places towards midday. The warm front should push
quickly to the north into the late morning and afternoon as a
deep SW flow takes shape ahead of an approaching upper level
trough and its surface reflected cold frontal boundary for late
Monday into Monday night. The main question is whether wind
advisory criteria can get met with any stronger wind gusts for
Monday afternoon and Monday evening. For now have winds below
criteria, but if wind advisory thresholds were to be met the
best chance appears to be for eastern and northeastern sections
of the area immediately ahead of the cold frontal passage. At
this point not sure if the stronger gusts are going to get down
to the surface. Also, look for the chance for showers to
increase again into Monday evening as the cold frontal boundary
moves through. Drier and cooler air then works in by Tuesday
morning as high pressure settles over the area during the day
providing seasonably cool temperatures despite a good deal of
sunshine.

The next upper and mid level disturbance will then approach
into Wednesday. There appears to be good agreement among the
ensemble means and the GFS, GEM, and ICON deterministic guidance
at 500 mb with respect to the amplitude and speed of the long
wave trough and is associated shortwave. The shortwave energy is
strung out and not consolidated among the various guidance
packages, which suggest a weaker overall surface reflection with
respect to surface low pressure development. Due to the faster
pacific based flow regime we have been in, this train of thought
appears to follow persistence and there is no strong counter
signals from a large scale flow perspective to deviate from
this. There have been runs of the GFS that indicate a mixed
precip event across the CWA. The problem with this is there is
no blocking high, and the high that comes across the country and
gets to the north later on Wednesday is a hybrid of Western
Canadian and Pacific origin. Thus I am not anticipating that if
the shortwave ends up being stronger than anticipated that the
high would be strong enough to yield significant precipitation
over the region while keeping temperatures cold enough for a
significant frozen or mixed precip event across much, if not all
of the region. Thus it appears that it is best to go a bit
warmer with temperatures with respect to conditional precip
probabilities (meaning if precip or meaningful precip occurs, it
would likely be a warmer more liquid type event). There also
remains the possibility that the upper level energy is so
progressive and strung out that the wave of low pressure will be
very weak and yield very little precip, and thus little QPF
over the area. Subsequent shifts will have to continue to
monitor trends. With all this said, far northern and
northwestern sections will have a chance to see some frozen
precip. Especially on the front end and back end of the system.

In any event, after the systems gets through and passes to the
northeast early on Thursday another area of high pressure will
settle nearby providing dry and seasonably chilly conditions.
The predictability then decreases late in the long term period
as there is disagreement on the details, but a warm front may
get better organized and move through later Friday and Friday
night. Heights are expected to rise as teleconnection indices
across the board point to a warmer signal overall. The exception
initially is the EPO (Eastern Pacific Oscillation index) which
quickly undergoes a signal flip and reverses signs early in the
period, and ultimately goes positive and thus a warmer signal
for later in the long term period and beyond. Thus temperatures
for later in the period and for next weekend are anticipated to
be warmer overall.

A weak cold front moves through early, with high pressure
building across today, and then a warm frontal approach tonight.

VFR conditions through 00z this evening. Then potential for
MVFR cigs to develop from SW to NE after 03-6z tonight ahead of
warm frontal approach.

possible during the daytime. Chc LLWS. Afternoon/evening
westerly peak gusts 40kt possible, otherwise gusts mostly
25-30kt during the day and at night. Wind direction S-SW during
the day and W at night.

.MARINE...
Small craft conditions will take place for the eastern 2/3rds
of the ocean between 10pm and 4am before winds subside below
small craft criteria towards morning. Small craft gusts tonight
should be more occasional and up to 25 kts for Eastern LI Sound.

Winds and waves will remain below SCA criteria for Sunday and
Sunday evening, but then approach SCA criteria on the ocean late
at night. The winds then ramp up further with SCA conditions
becoming increasingly likely on Monday for the western non-ocean
waters, with gale force wind gusts becoming increasingly likely
on the ocean and eastern non- ocean waters. This also includes
the south shore bays of LI late Monday afternoon and Monday
evening as a gale watch has been issued for this time period.
The winds will then diminish from west to east late Monday
night, but seas will remain elevated on the ocean waters with
small craft seas out on the ocean through Tuesday morning. Sub
SCA conditions will then take place from Tuesday afternoon
through Wednesday. Towards Wednesday evening small craft
conditions will become increasingly likely for the ocean waters
through with seas approaching 5 ft and marginal small craft
gusts into most of Thursday.

.HYDROLOGY...
No widespread significant precipitation is expected through
early next week and as such, no hydrologic impacts are expected.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
High astronomical tides will have water levels approaching
minor flood benchmarks in vulnerable locales during the morning
high tides Sunday, with potential for minor flooding with the
Monday AM high tide with a strengthening SE flow. Surge of as
little as 1/2 to 1 ft needed in spots for minor flood levels to
be reached.
