.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure moves offshore overnight. A strong cold front
will then approach on Sunday and moves through Sunday night into
Monday. Behind the departing cold front, high pressure will
slowly build in through the mid week. Brisk and cool conditions
can be expected into Thanksgiving Day, with another cold front
moving through by the end of the week.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TODAY/...
Warm advection is beginning to take shape over the region. This
will put a lid on any cooling from earlier this evening. There
are a few outlying locations that have dropped off into the
lower 30s, but expect temperatures to level off or slowly rise
in these areas through early Sunday morning. Locations along the
coast could stay in the 40s with an increasing SW flow. Skies
will be mostly cloudy into early Sunday morning.
A mid level shortwave trough approaches to provide some lift,
the inversion should start to diminish with a few sprinkles
Sunday morning across the forks of Long Island as well as far
SE CT.
Bkn lower clouds should hold on for most of Sunday across Long
Island and coastal CT. The rest of the area should see a
lowering mid level cloud deck most of the day. Low level WAA
will yield a milder day, with highs in the 50s.

.SHORT TERM /TONIGHT THROUGH 6 PM MONDAY/...
Showers with the approaching front then move in after dark,
with likely PoP from NYC north/west in the evening, and
categorical PoP overnight. While sfc-based instability develops
ahead of the front and TT index increases to 50+ overnight
mainly across southern CT, a mid level inversion should keep any
instability confined to the low levels, with some moderate
showers capable of producing gusty winds.
Focus of showers shifts to Long Island and southern CT for
daytime Mon as the front moves slowly east. True cold air should
hold off til Mon night, and downslope post-frontal flow should
allow temps to rise to the lower 50s for most of the area. Mid
50s possible out east just ahead of the front.

.LONG TERM /MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY/...
Global models have come in better agreement over the last 24 hours
for the pattern through Thanksgiving Day. A highly amplified trough
digs into the Northeast for Tuesday which pushes the frontal system
offshore. A shortwave rounds the base of the trough over the
Southeast which develops a low pressure system along the front over
the Western Atlantic and Canadian Maritimes through the middle of
the week. Meanwhile for our area, a highly amplified ridge over the
center of the country pushes a surface high pressure system into the
area from the west. While the Tuesday through Thursday timeframe
looks dry, temperatures will be below average and it will likely be
quite breezy as the pressure gradient over the area tightens between
the approaching high from the west and the strong low over the
Canadian Maritimes to the east.
By Thanksgiving, the upper-level ridge gets squeezed between the cut-
off low to the east and an approaching trough over the Northern
Plains. This may actually allow for the winds to lessen as the high
pressure sets up over the area from Wednesday night into
Thanksgiving Day. Thereafter, models diverge in their respective
solutions. The next trough and associated frontal system looks to
approach by the end of the week and into the beginning of the
weekend but timing, strength, and exact placement are too uncertain
to pinpoint at this time.
Highs on Tuesday will be well below average with temps only in the
low to middle 40s. A subtle warming trend through Thanksgiving Day
is expected where temps rebound back to seasonable with highs on
Thanksgiving Day in the low to middle 50s. Temperatures then look
to be on a cooling trend through the weekend with the passage of the
next cold frontal system.

.AVIATION /06Z SUNDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
High pressure moves off the New England coast tonight towards
Nova Scotia. High pressure moves slowly northeast in the
Northern Atlantic waters offshore of Nova Scotia Sunday while a
cold front approaches from the west.
SW flow tonight into early Sunday will be generally 5-10 kts,
with higher end of the range at the coast and less inland where
wind will have more variable direction and be less than 6 kts.
Winds generally stay SW near 7-10 kt for Sunday into Sunday
evening but with direction becoming more southerly. A few gusts
are possible mid to late Sunday afternoon as well as the start of
the evening to near 15 kt. Gusts become more likely just ahead and
behind front late Sunday night.
VFR conditions forecast for much of the TAF period. However,
forecast has some possible very light rain or sprinkles for
Eastern Long Island late tonight into Sunday morning which could
make for temporary MVFR ceilings for KISP and KGON. Other
terminals also have a chance for MVFR ceilings late tonight into
Sunday morning but chance was low enough to not include in TAFs
at the moment.

MVFR timing could be off by a few hours.
.OUTLOOK FOR 06Z MONDAY THROUGH THURSDAY...
.Late Sunday night...Rain with MVFR, sub-MVFR possible. SW-W winds
around 10 kt with gusts around 20 kt.
.Monday...MVFR early in the morning, IFR possible east of the NYC
terminals, then becoming VFR west to east, with showers ending. W-NW
winds around 15 kt with gusts 20-25kt.
.Tuesday...VFR. NW winds around 15 kt with gusts 20-25kt.
.Wednesday-Thursday...VFR.

Increasing S-SW flow ahead of an approaching cold front should
produce SCA criteria on at least the ocean waters late Sunday
night into Monday morning. There may be a period of solid SCA
conditions with a few gusts to gale force, especially in any
showers. SCA cond expected on all waters Mon afternoon through
Tue night in post- frontal W-NW flow.
The pressure gradient relaxes a little by Wednesday, with SCA
conditions still possible on the ocean as seas slowly subside.
High pressure moves over the area Wednesday night and into
Thanksgiving Day and sub-SCA conditions are expected on all
waters, though seas on the ocean may be around 4 feet. SCA
conditions also possible again on Friday with the approach of
the next frontal system.

Portions of the area could see up to 1/2 inch of rain Sunday
