.SYNOPSIS...Below normal temperatures will continue the remainder
of the weekend as a cold front is still expected to move through
late tonight and Sunday. Widespread light to moderate showers are
forecast for the entire region with lingering showers possible
into Sunday evening. Slight chance of thunderstorms in the wake of
the front Sunday afternoon for parts of the North and East Bay. A
warming and drying trend is then on tap from Monday through most
of the coming week.

.DISCUSSION...as of 01:40 PM PDT Saturday...Early morning low
clouds have lifted for most locations while mid and high level
clouds stream over the region ahead of a weak boundary. Still
picking up a few weak echos on radar over the far northern portion
of North Bay, but not much in the way of accumulations. This may
continue into the evening ahead of the next system. Temperatures
remain seasonably cool in the upper 50s to low 60s. Afternoon
highs should peak in the upper 50s to low 60s along the coast and
mid to upper 60s inland.

The main rain event it is still expected overnight tonight
through tomorrow afternoon as a cold front moves through the
region. High res models have initial showers arriving late tonight
into the early morning (~3-5 AM) before becoming more widespread
a few hours later. The bulk of the precipitation is expected
tomorrow morning into the early afternoon before showers become
more scattered. Some minor changes in rainfall totals since last
night, but overall still expect about 0.10"-0.25" for most valley
locations and 0.25"-0.5+" for the hills. In the wake of the
frontal passage models continue to indicate the potential for
instability over the North and East Bay. This may generate some
thunderstorms over the area with small hail possible. Snow levels
will also quickly drop into tomorrow down to about 3500-4500 ft.
Therefore, some snow will be possible over the taller peaks.
Additionally, locally breezy winds may accompany the frontal
passage with gusts of about 25-30 mph. The front will exit the
region tomorrow night as the parent upper low moves eastward into
the Great Basin.

Continued influence from this upper low will keep temperatures
seasonably cool on Monday, though a few degrees warmer than
Sunday. More substantial warming is then expected Tuesday through
the rest of the week as an upper ridge builds behind the exiting
trough over the eastern Pacific. The ridge will build into
California for much of the rest of the week generating above
normal temperatures by Wednesday (~5-10 deg). Many inland
locations could reach the low to mid 80s late this week with
isolated areas in the upper 80s as 850 mb temperatures rise to
about 15-17 deg C. At the moment, warming looks to end Saturday as
an upper low moves into British Columbia with a trough extending
down the West Coast.

.AVIATION...As of 11:10 AM PDT Saturday.....For the 18Z TAFs. A
pair of frontal boundaries will move across the terminals over the
next 24 hours. The first of these is a dry weaker boundary today
that is currently passing through the area and bringing MVFR cigs
and light southwest winds. Some mid to late afternoon clearing and
veering winds are expected in the wake of this weaker boundary.
The next wetter cold frontal boundary arrives late Saturday night
into sunrise Sunday morning, ie bringing rain, lowering MVFR
cigs, by around 11-13Z SUN then persist through the morning.
Expect -RA/RA with visbys of 4-6SM for terminals. Brief IFR cigs
are possible in the North Bay valleys and/or Central Coast with
the heaviest rain. Winds will become S/SSE ahead of this second
stronger boundary overnight, then veer towards the W in the wake
of the front around 21-23Z SUN depending on location. Brief,
locally gusty winds with the front of 20-30kt are possible.

Vicinity of KSFO...For today, initial boundary will bring lower
cigs this afternoon with breezy west winds and some evening
clearing. CIGs predominately VFR though some borderline MVFR BKN
cigs are possible during the afternoon weaker boundary passage.
For late tonight into tomorrow morning, wetter boundary arrives
and 5-6SM visbys with -RA/RA posbl from 12-22Z SUN. Increasing S/SE
winds will become gusty near the frontal boundary passage, then
turn sharply west by around 22-23Z SUN.

SFO Bridge Approach...Similar to KSFO.

Monterey Bay Terminals...For this morning, light to locally breezy
NW winds and FEW-SCT cigs at 2200-3000 feet ahead of an
approaching dry frontal boundary. This dry boundary arrives around
02Z SUN and will bring lowering MVFR 1500-2000 ft BKN-OVC cigs
overnight. A second wetter boundary will arrive by around sunrise,
12-14Z SUN with this OVC020 layer in place and bring 4-6SM -RA/RA
through the morning.

.MARINE...as of 10:59 AM PDT Saturday...A weak boundary will move
across the waters today with light  variable winds, generally
southwest becoming northwest through the  day. Locally breezy
conditions will exist along the coast and  through coastal gaps. A
stronger cold frontal boundary will move  across the waters late
tonight into Sunday morning. Winds will back  towards the south
again tonight and increase, becoming locally gusty  along the
boundary. Winds will then veer northwest in the wake of  the front
through the day on Sunday. The first significant southerly  swell
of the season has arrived and will move through the waters  over
the coming days. A shorter period northwest swell and wind  waves
will also be present across the waters.
