.SHORT TERM...(This evening through Monday night)
Issued at 258 PM CST Sun Feb 21 2021

Light, to at times moderate, snow continues across much of the CWA
this afternoon. The back edge is located over western Minnesota which
should swing through relatively quick as the system progresses
northeast across Iowa into southern Wisconsin. Clouds will try to
clear some this evening behind the system, but additional mid level
clouds will increase overnight so the window for clearing will be
small. Within that window, light winds will help some freezing fog to
become more widespread until westerly winds begin increasing
overnight.

A mild Pacific airmass will be a welcome change Monday with highs in
the upper 30s to lower 40s. Gusty westerly flow and thus mixing will
help temperatures climb to those levels despite the likelihood of
extensive cloud cover. A shortwave trough/surface front will swing
through in the afternoon and there may be a couple rain and/or snow
showers with it. The best chance will be north of I-94 where moisture
depth will be quite a bit deeper than farther southwest.

.LONG TERM...(Tuesday through Sunday)

The long term appears that it will start and end on a somewhat
active note with tranquil conditions in between.

A weak clipper brings our first chance of precipitation late
Tuesday. Temperatures ahead of this system are still on track to be
north of freezing, so some rain mixed with snow before a complete
change over is possible. This system is currently on track to impact
the northern portion of Minnesota and western Wisconsin, with better
chances for a rain/snow mix on the southern edge. QPF totals are
generally under 0.10”

Temperatures have trended a bit warmer for Wednesday and Thursday
with highs in the low to mid 30s. The GFS is still a cold outlier and
the Euro may be a touch too warm, so the NBM temperatures look to be
a happy medium. With high pressure in place, we’re looking at some
fairly pleasant late February weather. By Thursday night, southerly
winds increase ahead of our next system. A trough could once again
bring another round of light snow across portions of the CWA Friday
afternoon.

Looking ahead to next weekend, there still appears to be a signal
for another system to impact the region and the return of some
slightly below average temperatures to end February. Whether or not
March will come in like a lion remains to be seen.

.AVIATION...(For the 06Z TAFS through 06Z Monday night)

Snow has pretty much ended, with timing of stratus clearing in
current TAFs in pretty good shape. West of this stratus in western MN
lies much uncertainty. We've seen patchy dense for try to form in the
clear skies, but as this is happening, winds are increasing in
strength and mid/upper level clouds are streaming in from the
northwest, both of which should help keep conditions from getting
much worse than they currently are out west. Still, it could get
pretty band at STC/AXN/RWF for the first couple of hours of the TAF
before the winds and clouds result in improvements. There are a
couple of things not in the TAFs that could end up there in the
future. One, we're seeing potential for some brief rain showers at
all the terminals near I-94 during the, but there's not enough
confidence in them happening this far south to include a prob30 at
this point. In addition, a wind shear threat exists from the
afternoon into the evening in MN, but there is very little
directional shear with the increasing winds just above the inversion,
so continued what looks like a marginal wind shear event out of the
TAFs.

KMSP...Model agreement remains high that stratus will clear MSP
between 10z and 12z Monday. A stray shower will be possible between
22z Mon and 02z Tue, with conditions expected to remain VFR once the
stratus clears this morning.
