.SHORT TERM...
(Issued 200 PM CST Sat Dec 11 2021)
Tonight through Sunday night:
Strong low pressure northeast of lower Michigan will continue to
pull northeast away from the area. A tight pressure gradient lingers
so gusty northwest winds will persist with 3 hourly pressure rise
max of 4-7mb working through. Plenty of clear air upstream so at
this point the caa regime not showing much in the way of cloud
potential. Broad mid level anticyclonic flow will persist into
Sunday night. We start seeing some 850 waa kick in this period
with 925 temps modifying some as well.
&&
.LONG TERM...
(Issued 200 PM CST Sat Dec 11 2021)
Monday through Tuesday night:
The broad mid level anticyclonic flow persists with ridging
amplifying a bit ahead of a potent wave arriving after this period.
WAA will persist with unseasonable warmth likely. Progs show a south
or southwest wind for Monday with winds turning more from an
southeast direction Tuesday. As we head into Tuesday night we will
start to see an uptick in dew points with a more pronounced
southerly flow taking hold.
Wednesday through Wednesday night:
Southerly winds will continue to draw in unseasonable/record warmth
and also unseasonably high dew points. Forecast may actually need
"humid" in there to account for dew points potentially nearing 60
which for December standards is quite tropical. Some hints of some
waa/moist advection induced showers ahead of the main low. A
vigorous negatively tilted shortwave will then ride northeast from
Iowa through northwest Wisconsin later Wednesday into Wednesday
evening. Models in good agreement on a strong low riding to our
northwest and north. A highly dynamical system where we will need to
keep an eye on the 00z-06z timeframe Wednesday evening as the best
dynamics try to lineup with some favorable thermodynamics. Seeing
some hints of severe potential already in the CIPS analogs that for
now anyways zero in more on Iowa, but as the evening wears on and
the wave rides northeast we may have enough instability to generate
some sct TSRA in a line ahead of the cold front. bears watching
heading into Wednesday evening. Still a ways off and things can
change but the unseasonably high temps and dew points warrant some
concern.
Thursday through Saturday:
The cold front is expected to move through sometime Thursday morning
so some highs may be set early in the day especially in the
southeast. Otherwise a return to reality expected with colder,
and a much more seasonal airmass settling in for weeks end.
&&
.AVIATION...
(Issued 200 PM CST Sat Dec 11 2021)
Gusty west winds will continue into the evening before settling down
some as the strong low pulls further away. Skies will be VFR SKC.
Southwest winds expected to increase for Sunday with a tight
pressure gradient in place.

.MARINE...
(Issued 200 PM CST Sat Dec 11 2021)
Decided to extend the open waters gale warning through 09z Monday.
While a lull in the gales is expected later this evening the north
will see a renewed uptick and then the gale potential returns area
wide for Sunday into Sunday night. So, for simplicity's sake just
extended the whole open waters to cover for these events. The
nearshore zone will need a headline (likely as small craft) once the
going gale warning expires at 00z.
