High pressure will continue to ridge in from the west tonight.
A cold front with limited moisture will pass through the area
Tuesday night, with high pressure building in again from the
north through late week. A coastal low pressure system will
impact the area through the weekend.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM THIS MORNING/...
As of 1220 AM Tue...With clr skies and temps reaching dewpts
some patchy fog observed inland. Guidance shows fog/st
increasing inland thru daybreak so added some fog wording to
fcst.

Prev disc...Cloud coverage remains the primary challenge late
this evening, with stratus holding tight across coastal NE NC,
stratus streaming over coastal SE NC, and limited cloud cover
across the inner Coastal Plain. As expected, radiational cooling
remains most efficient for clear inland areas, with moderate
radiational cooling still occuring along the coast south of Cape
Hatteras and very limited cooling for the Albemarle-Pamlico
Peninsula. Patchy fog remains possible late, with areas west of
US Hwy 17 looking like the most likely locations based on
expected cloud trends.

Previous Discussion...Latest analysis shows 1032mb high
pressure centered over the Mid-West ridging eastward into the
Carolinas. High pressure will continue to ridge in overnight.
Mostly clear skies and light winds will allow for strong
radiational cooling overnight, which could lead to shallow
patchy ground fog development. Lows will range from the mid 40s
inland to low to mid 50s immediate coast.

.SHORT TERM /6 AM THIS MORNING THROUGH 6 PM TODAY/...
As of 230 PM Mon...High pressure will weaken across the area as
a cold front approaches from the NW. The front will push through
late afternoon into Tue night. Still looks dry, with any precip
holding off until Tue night. Temps near normal with highs in
the upper 60s to low 70s.

.LONG TERM /TONIGHT THROUGH MONDAY/...
As of 230 PM Mon...A mostly dry cold front will move through
the area Tuesday night into Wednesday. Potential for a coastal
lows to impact the area at the end of the period. Below normal
temps expected through the period.

Tuesday night and Wednesday...The front is progged to push
through Tuesday night through early Wednesday morning. The front
looks to be mostly dry as it crosses inland areas, with chances
of showers increasing as it reaches warmer/moister air near the
coast, best chances across the NE forecast area near the
Albemarle Sound and northern OBX. Strong CAA behind the front
will keep highs Wed in the upper 50s inland, low 60s for coastal
areas.

Late week...Unsettled pattern begins to take shape as the broad
upper level trough to the NE becomes sharper and positively
tilted while ridging builds in the lower levels over SE CONUS.
Moisture increases across the area late week as a baroclinic
zone develops from the Mid- Atlantic to the SE states which will
eventually lead to weak low pressure forming along it and
bringing rain to the area by late week. Nerly flow at the SFC
and increased cloud coverage keep temps cool, Highs in the mid
to upper 50s inland, low 60s along the coast. Lows in the low
40s inland, low 50s for the coast to end the week.

Weekend...Area of broad low pressure moves off the South Florida
coast NEward and deepens as it crosses the Gulfstream. Model
differences with the progression of the upper trough make
details murky, but the wet weather trend continues until the low
departs to the NE.

As of 330 AM Monday...Boating conditions deteriorate from mid
week into the weekend. A cold front will cross the waters late
Tuesday night with strong N/NErly surge behind it. Winds
increase to 20-25 kts and gusts up to 30 kt late Tuesday night
through Wednesday night, making SCAs issuance likely. Elevated
Nerly winds 15 to 20kt persist Thursday and strengthen again Fri
to 20 to 25 kts with gusts up to 30 kt as a coastal low travels
NE east of coastal waters. Gale force winds possible Sat,
depending on the strength and location of the low.

Seas build from N to S up to 4 to 6 ft by Wednesday morning.

highest astronomical tide levels of the year later this week
into early next week. Coincidentally, a set of low pressure
