.SYNOPSIS...
A mainly dry cold front will cross the area this morning.
Another secondary cold front will push through overnight. High
pressure will rebuild over the area through the weekend. A more
unsettled weather pattern will return for next week.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/...
As of 400 AM Fri...The region remains well mixed ahead of a cold
front which is currently slicing through the central part of the
state, and will push through Eastern NC by mid morning. A few
isolated showers remain possible across the northern tier, but
don't expect much more than enough sprinkles to wet the ground
where it does precipitate. Due to clouds and breezy conditions
temperatures remain in the low to even mid 70s, and should
remain steady through daybreak.

Behind the cold front clouds will clear quickly as drier air
fills into the area. Decreasing low level heights will be
countered by warming downslope flow, and result in highs
reaching the upper 70s to low 80s across most of the region. A
few mid 80s will also be possible across the southern coast and
into Onslow and Duplin counties where heights remain the
highest.

The biggest story of the day will be the development of
dangerous fire weather conditions, and a Red Flag Warning has
been issued for all of Eastern NC except for Hatteras and
Ocracoke Islands. Very dry air will move in behind this front,
and will combine with strong gusty winds, and exceptionally low
fuel moisture to produce favorable conditions for rapid fire
spread. Conditions will be worst in the afternoon, but outdoor
burning is discouraged through the whole day.

.SHORT TERM /6 PM THIS EVENING THROUGH 6 AM SATURDAY/...
As of 400 AM Fri...A quiet evening is expected with clear skies,
and breezy westerly winds continuing. Strong surface high
pressure approaching from the NW, as well as an upper level
trough passing to the north, will act to push a strong
secondary cold front through the area overnight. This will bring
in much cooler temps and stronger winds, but keep conditions
dry. Temps will fall into the mid to upper 40s by daybreak, with
most of the decrease occurring after midnight.

.LONG TERM /SATURDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
As of 315 AM Fri...High pressure returns for the weekend. A few
chances for some precip next week as mid level patterns become more
meridional.

Saturday and Sunday...High pressure will linger across western NC
Saturday, keeping a cool WNW flow across the area. Aftn highs will
be in the low to mid 70s with 60s along the coast. High will slip
offshore come Sunday, providing a warmer Srly flow across the
region. Temps expected to reach into the low to mid 80s with 70s
along the coast.

Monday through Thursday...Weather pattern becomes a little more
active next week with a few chances for showers with a few mid level
shortwaves moving through the region. Overall, sfc lows look fairly
unorganized as they reach the Mid Atlantic. Still a bit of
uncertainty whether or not shower activity will become wrung out by
the mountains before arriving in ENC. Kept in a schc to chc for
precip for now. Srly flow expect to persist, with aftn temps in the
upper 80s inland and mid to upper 70s along the coast all week
through Wed. Tue setting up to be the warmest day with drier
conditions and highs in the low 90s inland. Guidance showing a
coastal low gathering strength off the Carolinas Thu/Thu night.
Still a bit of precip coverage discrepancy across models, but
setup will likely keep temps a tad cooler with NE flow.

.AVIATION /08Z FRIDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
Short Term /Through Saturday Morning/...
As of 410 AM Fri...VFR conditions will continue through the TAF
period. A mostly dry cold front will lead to a significant wind
shift this morning as winds turn from the SW to the NW, with
wind gusts 25-35 mph possible today.

Long Term /Saturday through Tuesday/...
As of 320 AM Fri...Prevailing VFR through the weekend. Strong
NW flow Sat morning will diminish quickly through the day as
high pressure shifts eastward and overhead. Winds turn more SW
Sun as the high moves offshore. A more active weather pattern
returns Monday and Tuesday with a few chances for rain, but
overall coverage may be limited.

.MARINE...
Short Term /Through Tonight/...
As of 410 AM Fri...Poor boating conditions are expected to
continue through tonight. Marine headlines remain up early this
morning due to strong SW flow ahead of a cold front. This front
is expected to cross the region by mid morning, with winds
shifting to the NW behind it.

Conditions will remain below SCA thresholds for most of the day
and into tonight with winds NW 15-20 kts, and seas 3-5 ft. A
secondary cold front is expected move in from the north
overnight with winds increasing out of the NNW behind it to
20-30 kts, with a few gusts to 35 kts possible. The duration of
this surge will be limited as winds begin to subside by daybreak
tomorrow morning. Seas will build rapidly to 5-7 ft by daybreak
as well.

Long Term /Saturday through Tuesday/...
As of 325 AM Fri...Strong NW flow Sat AM will taper off through
the day, allowing small craft conditions to subside by the aftn
as high pressure moves overhead. NW winds gusting to 25-30 kts
in the morning will quickly drop to W winds around 5-10 kts with
by the early aftn. Seas will drop from 4-7 ft along the central
and northern waters to 3-5 ft by mid to late aftn. Marine
conditions will be very calm through Sun AM before SW flow
slowly creeps up again during the day, gusting to around 20 kts
by the aftn with seas 2-3 ft. No marine concerns until Monday
evening when SW winds start gusting to 25 kts ahead of the next
storm system. Conditions will linger around SCA criteria through
Tuesday.

.FIRE WEATHER...
As of 415 AM Fri...A Red Flag Warning has been issued for
expected dangerous fire weather conditions today. Behind a cold
front relative humidities will drop into the 20-25% range, and
winds will increase out of the NW with frequent gusts to 30 mph.
Recent lack of rainfall this past month has significantly dried
out fuels as well. The combination of all of these factors
today will lead to critical fire weather conditions with rapid
fire spread likely. Outdoor burning is highly discouraged today.

Dry high pressure continues through the weekend with relative
humidity values 15-25% during the day, though wind speeds will
moderate. Elevated fire danger is likely to continue through the
weekend as a result.
