.SYNOPSIS...
Low pressure and associated cold front will continue to sink
south of the area tonight as high pressure builds in from the
north. Then a mostly stagnant weather pattern forms with a
trough of low pressure off the southeast coast, and high
pressure over southern New England through early next week.
Another storm system will likely impact the area by mid next
week.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/...
As of 345 AM Sat... The latest analysis is showing sfc high pressure
extending into the Carolinas from the north and will continue to
persist today, while a tough of low pressure continues develops off
the SE coast today. The gradient will tighten between these to
systems allowing for windy conditions to continue across the Outer
Banks and Downeast Carteret, and cloudy conditions to spread farther
inland. Hi-Res models continues to indicate a few showers may
possible reach the Outer Banks associated with the trough, though
most of the day should remain dry.
Temperatures will be warmer than yesterday, but temperatures remains
below average for this time of year. Expect highs in the low 50s
from the northern OBX area to mid 50s to the SW of forecast
area.

.SHORT TERM /TONIGHT/...
As of 345 AM Sat... The though of low pressure will become better
organized tonight allowing for isolated to widely scattered rain
showers to spread into coastal counties. Expect overnight lows in
the upper 30s to low 40s inland and upper 40s to low 50s along the
coast.

.LONG TERM /SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY/...
As of 350 AM Saturday...Strong high pressure will continue to
ridge south and southwest from the northern Atlantic as an area
of low pressure move off the Carolina coast Sunday night into
early next week. A deep mid-level trough will also linger near
the area. Deep moisture will continue to limited to areas
nearest the coast with lower PoPs inland. The best coverage of
rain over the eastern CWA will come on Monday, but even then,
any QPF will average no more than one- quarter to one- third of
an inch near the coast, with one- tenth of an inch or less
further inland.
As the surface low weakens and moves north of the area, expect a
dry and mild day Tuesday. Moisture slowly starts to return to
the area Wednesday and especially Thursday as a deep full-
latitude mid-level trough starts to cross the country. The upper
trough becomes negatively tilted later on Thursday and strong
850 mb winds move east into our region. This would imply a
severe weather threat Thursday night into early Friday and will
need to be watched over the next few days. Drier weather
expected behind this system Friday afternoon.
Temperature-wise, temperatures warm gradually all week, reaching
the 70s by Tuesday with the area of 70s expanding by the end of
the week.

.AVIATION /08Z SATURDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
Short Term /through Saturday/...
As of 120 AM Sat...High confidence in VFR conditions will
persist through the TAF period. Mid to high clouds will move
through the TAF sites overnight, while 3500 ft cloud deck is
moving towards the coastal sites (KEWN/KOAJ) from the coastal water.
NE winds will persist the early morning hours inhibiting any
fog formation. NE winds ramp up again to 20-25 kts during the
day. Gusty winds will relax by this evening.
Long Term /Sunday through Wednesday/...
As of 355 AM Saturday...With the deepest moisture remaining near
the coast, think the TAF sites will be generally dry with VFR
conditions expected Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. Some increase in
showers possible Wednesday ahead of a deep mid-level trough
approaching from the best, but any sub-VFR conditions should be
limited.

Short Term /Today and Tonight/...
As of 345 AM Sat...The latest buoy observations are showing NE 25-35
knots and seas 10-15 ft. Poor boating conditions will continue
thought tonight as strong NE winds and large seas. NE winds 25-30
kts gusting up to 40 knots will continue across the marine zones
waters, expect across the Albemarle-, Croatan-, Roanoke Sound as
winds will be 15-25 knots. Winds will gradually subside, but
occasional gust to Gale force winds will continue. Seas will remain
10-15 ft, then will start to gradually subside this afternoon and
become 8-11 ft overnight.
Long Term /Sunday through Wednesday...
As of 4 AM Saturday...Not much improvement in overall marine
conditions are expected over the next few days. With linger
strong high pressure to the north and low pressure offshore,
gusty N/NE winds of 20-25 knots with seas up to 8-11 feet will
persist Sunday through at least Tuesday. As the surface low
moves away from the coast by Wednesday, winds will veer to more
SE/S and decrease, but seas will remain elevated through the
period.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
As of 4 AM Saturday...Threat of coastal flooding will continue
into the weekend. Coastal Flood Warnings continue for the Outer
Banks from Cape Hatteras to Duck for the threat of moderate
oceanside overwash with water levels 2-4 ft AGL possible.
Persistent winds 20-30 kts with higher gusts will contribute to
high water levels for these areas, and when combined with
strong wave run up (thanks to seas 10-12 ft or greater), will
lead to areas of overwash during times of high tide. Impacts to
NC 12 are likely, but as always the extent to which the dunes
structures will be impacted is somewhat unknown.
Elsewhere, Coastal Flood Advisories for Ocracoke Island and Eastern
Carteret County adjacent to the Pamlico Sound continue, as well as
southern Craven County adjacent to the tidal Neuse River. Added
Pamlico and Beaufort counties to the advisory, as these areas will
see elevated water levels. Strong north to northeasterly winds
will cause water levels to rise, and with the persistent fetch
of strong winds this will pile water up on the southern shores
of the Pamlico Sound and lower Neuse River. Water levels are
expected to reach 1-2 ft AGL, locally up to 3 ft, but due to the
long duration of this event, those values could be exceeded,
however it is unknown at this time how that will play out. If
surge is expected to be stronger for these areas a Coastal Flood
Warning may be needed.
Some minor oceanside overwash is also possible across Ocracoke
Island as some swell will wrap around the Cape.
