What forecasters said that day

The local office's own words before this small craft advisory went out, as it sent them, from the Iowa Environmental Mesonet's archive of National Weather Service text.

NWS Newport/Morehead City, NC wrote its last area forecast discussion before this small craft advisory went out at Mar 14, 12:34 AM EST, 2 hours 17 minutes earlier.

Area forecast discussion, Mar 14, 12:34 AM EST, 2 hours 17 minutes before
Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Newport/Morehead City NC
1234 AM EST Sun Mar 14 2021

.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure builds in tonight. Frontal boundary will briefly
straggled towards southern portions of Eastern NC Sunday. By Sunday
night, high pressure strengthens and remain over the area through
Monday. A weak area of low pressure is expected to move across the
area on Tuesday with a larger storm system likely to impact the
region into late week.

&&

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM THIS MORNING/...
As of 10 PM Saturday...Still a good amount of mid and high
clouds across our region, but skies should clear a bit toward
morning as high pressure builds south from the Ohio Valley.
With the clearing skies toward morning, current forecast low
temperatures look good with expected low to mid 40s in most
areas.

&&

.SHORT TERM /6 AM THIS MORNING THROUGH 6 PM MONDAY/...
As of 415 PM Sat...High pressure erodes through the day Sunday
as it is squeezed offshore between two upper level troughs.
Frontal boundary will inch closely towards our southern counties
and provide a schc for a few light showers or sprinkles. Any
precip will encounter some very dry low levels and will struggle
to reach the ground. Models have trended a little drier from
the latest runs, but decided to keep a very low schc POP in the
forecast. Otherwise, mostly sunny to partly sunny skies for the
rest of the region. Models trended a little warmer with upper
60s across the northern tier and low 70s to the south.

&&

.LONG TERM /MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY/...
As of 255 AM Sat...High pressure will remain over the area
Monday with mostly dry conditions expected. Then, a period of
unsettled weather is expected as first a weak low moves along
the coast Tuesday, and then a larger storm system will cross the
region late Wednesday into Friday.

Sunday night and Monday...High pressure will rebuild in rapidly
Sunday night, with winds increasing and low level heights
falling into Monday. CAA will act to limit temps to well below
normal levels, ranging from the mid to upper 40s across NE NC
and NOBX (thanks to winds off the cold ocean) to the low 50s
across southern coastal plain and coast.

Monday Night and Tuesday...A decaying upper level trough and
surface low will move into the Ohio Valley Monday night, and
then transfer energy southward with a weak low developing off
the South Carolina coast Tuesday morning. This low will then
move right up the SC/NC coast and off the Outer Banks through
the day Tuesday. This will lead to increasing showers late
Monday night with widespread rain likely most of the day
Tuesday. Initially some cold air damming looks to develop, and
temperatures Monday night will drop into the upper 30s to low
40s. Then, as the low moves right along the coast, temperatures
should increase into 50s to around 60 along the coast, but will
remain in the 40s to low 50s across the coastal plain.

Wednesday...Behind this weak storm system high pressure will
briefly build in, and expect Wednesday to be mostly dry. Temps
will bounce back into the 60s at least, and could potentially
be warmer depending on how much sunshine is seen.

Wednesday Night through Friday...A potent upper level low with
strengthening surface low will push out of the lower
Mississippi Valley Wednesday night, and head into the northern
Mid-Atlantic Thursday. As this system approaches, southerly
winds will develop and increase, leading to increasing moisture
and showers, with more widespread rain likely ahead of, and
along, a cold front which will move through the area sometime
Thursday. There could also be a threat of severe weather with
the current track of this cyclone, but hold off mentioning
thunder in the forecast for now. Expect temperatures to be
above normal ahead of this front, with below normal temperatures
likely behind the front on Friday.

&&

.AVIATION /06Z SUNDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
Short Term /through 06Z Monday/...
As of 1235 AM Sat...Substantial mid level cloud deck persists
over the terminals early this morning. Deeper moisture and
clouds expected to drop further south allowing for more clearing
this morning, before another round of mid and high level clouds
arrive late this afternoon into tonight spilling off a large
closed low over the central CONUS. Light and variable winds this
morning veer northwesterly tomorrow at around 5 kt.

Long Term /Sunday through Wednesday/...
As of 330 AM Sat...VFR conditions are expected through Monday.
Then periods of sub-VFR conditions are likely Monday night and
Tuesday as a weak low moves across the area bringing widespread
rain showers. VFR conditions then return Wednesday.

&&

.MARINE...
Short Term /through Sunday/...
As of 10 PM Saturday...Have dropped the remaining SCA on this
update as winds are mostly 10 knots or less from the E/NE on
area waters and seas are 5 feet or less. The E/NE winds should
veer to more southerly overnight and Sunday at generally 10
knots or less. Seas will drop to 2-4 feet overnight and remain
there on Sunday.

Long Term /Sunday night through Wednesday/...
As of 330 AM Sat...Reinforcing high pressure Sunday night will
bring a surge of stronger winds strengthening to N 20-30 kts
through Monday morning, and causing seas to rise to 6-8 ft.
Winds subside to NNE 15-20 kts the rest of Monday with seas
coming down to 4-6 ft. A weak area of low pressure will then
cross the coastal waters on Tuesday bringing varying wind
directions with speeds 15-25 kts. Behind this low winds turn to
the N at 10-15 kts Tuesday night, and then remain light on
Wednesday. Seas are expected to increase Tuesday to 5-7 ft, and
then come down to 2-4 ft Wednesday.
