.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure will build across the region this afternoon and
slide offshore this evening. Low pressure will approach from the
southwest tonight and pass just south and east of the region
Friday into early Saturday. High pressure will build in Saturday
night into early next week.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/...
As of 1255 PM Thursday...Some high clouds starting to approach
our CWA from the southwest at early afternoon, but generally be
a mostly sunny and chilly afternoon. High temperatures will be
in the mid to upper 40s. Ridge of high pressure will slide
NE/E of the area this afternoon as complex area of low pressure
moves northeast from the central Gulf region tonight and Friday.

.SHORT TERM /6 PM THIS EVENING THROUGH 6 AM FRIDAY/...
As of 230 AM Thu...High pres will slide offshore as sharp upr
trf and assoc sfc low approach from the SW. Expect dry
conditions thru the evening with increasing clouds. Expect rain
to grad spread in from the SW after 06Z with pops late ranging
from likely far S to less than 15 far NE. Temps will likely
reach lows in the evening with low to mid 30s then increase late
espcly S as clouds/winds grad increase. Temp profile cold enuf
for poss some snow mixed with rain NW tier late but given ground
temps well above freezing and light nature of precip no impacts
expected.

.LONG TERM /FRIDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
As of 405 AM Thu...To start the long term, a low pressure
system will move up the Carolina Coast from the south as a
driving upper level low pushes in from the west. As the system
moves in early Friday morning there is an outside chance of some
snow or sleet mixing in with the rain in the northwestern
counties, however there will be no impact or accumulation from
this and the precipitation will overwhelmingly fall as rain. QPF
estimates at this time are a half of an inch to an inch in most
locations with slightly more possible along the OBX. As the
system exits on Saturday morning there will be another chance
for a mix of rain and frozen precipitation in the far inland
counties. Only slight if any accumulation is expected here.
Forecast soundings suggest at this time that the cold air will
have a hard time catching up to the moisture as the system
exits, particularly aloft where the dendritic growth zone dries
out before the cold air arrives. That being said a more likely
scenario is that sleet mixes with rain as a fairly deep
isothermal layer is embedded in those soundings with a cold nose
closer to the surface.

After the system exits, dry weather returns for several days into
early next week before a second low pressure system following a
similar track enters the area bringing rain to the area for midweek.
Cool to seasonal temperatures with highs in the upper 40s to low
50s most days with lows in the upper 20s to mid 30s.

.AVIATION /18Z THURSDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
Short Term /through Tomorrow Morning/...
As of 1245 PM Thu...VFR cats prevail through the rest of today
with mostly SKC and light N-erly winds of 5kts or less
currently. Cloud coverage is expected to increase, CIGs will
gradually lower, and winds will turn more NE-erly overnight
ahead of a Low approaching the region from the SW. Increasing
clouds should dampen cooling enough to eliminate fog production.
Widespread showers are expected tomorrow starting around 12Z
(a little earlier for OAJ). Winds will remain NE-erly but build
throughout the day increasing chances for gusts of 15-20kts in
the afternoon. Sub-VFR cats are not expected until after the
showers start, around 15Z (and again earlier for OAJ).
Conditions will remain MVFR throughout the period and continue
deteriorating down to IFR CIGS after the end of this period.

Long Term /Fri through Sunday/...
As of 405 AM Thu...Sub VFR conditions are likely with the low pressure
system Friday and Saturday with a chance for a winter mix, mainly
at PGV and possibly ISO. Low ceilings are likely during this

As of 1 PM Thursday...Not much change early this afternoon with
NNW/NW winds at 15 knots or less, but seas remaining elevated on
the central and northern coastal waters at 4-6 feet. Seas will
slowly subside toward evening. High pressure will slide
offshore tonight as low pres approaches from the SW. Winds will
grad shift to the NE and increase late to 10 to 20 kts srn tier.
Seas will be mainly 3 to 5 ft tonight highest central and N
with lingering swell. Small Craft Advisories will be issued
later today for the southern waters and Pamlico Sound for Friday
into Saturday.

Long Term /Fri through Monday/...
As of 405 AM Thu...Small craft advisory conditions will be likely
with the low pressure system Friday into Saturday as seas climb
back up to 6-7 feet. This is expected to continue through
Sunday afternoon before dropping back below criteria. Wind gust
of 25-30 mph can be expected during this time.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
As of 230 AM Thu...Still appears some minor coastal flooding
will be possible for low lying areas adjacent to the ocean,
Pamlico Sound and Neuse River Friday night into Saturday. Gusty
E/NE winds will develop Friday, shifting to the N/NW Friday
night and early Saturday.
