Area Forecast Discussion

.SYNOPSIS...
A dry cold front will push south through the area tonight. High
pressure builds in from the north Sunday and slides offshore
Monday as a weak coastal trof develops just offshore. A stronger
cold front with limited moisture will cross Monday night. Low
pressure with plentiful moisture will move northeast and impact
the region mid next week.

&&

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/...
As of 315 AM Sat...Very warm weather for early December
expected today. A dry backdoor cold front will approach from the
N and begin to reach the far nrn tier late. Ahead of the front
will see plenty of sunshine and with low lvl thicknesses rising
will have near record highs in the low to mid 70s inland which
is around 15 degrees above normal. See Climate section below.

.SHORT TERM /6 PM THIS EVENING THROUGH 6 AM SUNDAY/...
As of 315 AM Sat...The dry backdoor cold front will drop south
through the area tonight and is forecast to stall just south of
the area Sunday as high pressure centered over the Mid-Atlantic
briefly ridges into the area late tonight into Sunday. Some high
based clouds and a brisk north wind are the only affects
expected with the frontal passage overnight. Lows will be in the
mid to upper 40s inland and low 50s beaches.

.LONG TERM /SUNDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
As of 330 AM Friday...A dry backdoor front drops into the area
late Saturday/Saturday night stalling just south of the area
with high pressure centered over the Mid-Atlantic briefly
ridging into the area Sunday. A dampening mid-level shortwave
also lifts across the area Sunday which will help initiate
showers along the coastal trough and could see a few skirt the
coast later in the day. A stronger mid-level shortwave and
attendant cold front approaches the area Sunday night and will
push across the area late Monday/Monday night. Coastal sections
will continue to have the best chance for precip near the
coastal trough but the showers associated with the front will
have limited moisture as it experiences drying with downslope
flow on the lee side of the mountains. Cool high pressure builds
into the area Tuesday with temps falling to below normal.
Precip chances increase for the middle of next week as a series
of southern stream systems lift out of the deep South and across
the area.

the TAF sites early this evening with high based clouds and
winds shifting to the north.

LONG TERM /Sunday through Wednesday/...
As of 4 AM Friday...VFR conditions expected through the period
with very little chance for precipitation at the main terminals.
Coastal showers will be possible Sunday into Monday but most
likely will remain east of the TAF sites. Dry surface conditions
will mitigate fog chances overnight.

SHORT TERM /through Tonight/...
As of 315 AM Sat...A period of marginal SCA conditions with
winds to 25 kt and seas 5-6 ft is expected over the central
waters late tonight into Sunday in the post frontal northerly
flow following the passage of a dry cold front this evening.
Today ahead of the front, southerly flow 10-15 kt will occur
with seas 2-4 ft. Behind the front tonight, winds will shift to
the N 15-20 kt with gusts to 25 kt, most frequent over the
central waters. Seas will build to 3-5 ft reaching 5-6 ft over
the outer central waters after midnight.

LONG TERM /Sunday through Wednesday/...
As of 410 AM Friday...A backdoor front pushes south across the
waters Saturday evening with winds becoming NE around 15-20 kt
and seas building to 3-5 ft. Could possibly see minimal SCA
conditions with gusts to 25 kt and the potential for seas up to
6 ft. A coastal trough develops across the waters late Sunday
with winds becoming E to SE around 10-15 kt and seas around 2-5
ft. A stronger front approaches Monday with a better chance for
SCA conditions as SW winds increase to 15-25 kt with gusts up to
30 kt and seas building to 4-6 ft. The front pushes through the
area Monday night with a nly surge around 15-25 kt developing
after midnight. Conditions will gradually improve through the
day Tuesday as high pressure builds into the area.
