.SYNOPSIS...
Low pressure located just to the southeast will continue to
strengthen today into tonight as it moves further offshore.
High pressure will build over the area tonight through Saturday.
Another coastal low will impact the area Sunday into early next
week.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TODAY/...
As of 230 AM Thu...Sfc low now just off the srn cst will cont
to move ENE and deepen today as impressive short wave crosses.
Fcst trends look good as widespread rain conts and appears is
beginning to change to snow NW tier. The change to snow will
cont to spread SE thru daybreak as colder air pushes S on
backside of the low. NW counties will have longest duration on
snow and expect 2 to 3 inches this region with locally higher
amounts. The snowfall totals will be lower as move SE given
shorter duration of snow and temps remaining aoa freezing. Cont
Winter Wx Advisory for all but srn cst and central/srn OBX. Will
be close to warning criteria for the most NW tier but will hold
off for now given warmer ground temps limiting
impacts...however there most likely will be poor travel
conditions for the morning commute.
Mdls show precip intensity rapidly weakening after 12Z as
mostly light snow tapers off and end thru late morn from W to E.
Despite increasing sunshine from mid day on will be cold espcly
N where expected snow cover will keep highs in the 30s with
lower 40s S. Gusty N winds will keep wind chills in 20s to lower
30s most of the region. Winds will be strong along the coast
and cont Wind Advry for OBX and ern Carteret.

.SHORT TERM /TONIGHT/...
As of 230 AM Thu...High pres will begin to build in from the NW
with mostly clear skies and cold temps. Lows will be mostly in
the lower 20s inland with mid/upr 20s beaches. Winds will be
diminishing espcly inland but wind chills in the teens expected
most areas overnight.

.LONG TERM /FRIDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
As of 245 AM Thursday...Cooler and drier weather will dominate
through Saturday with another low pressure system to impact the
area late weekend into early next week. High pressure will build
into the region midweek.
Friday and Saturday...High pressure will continue to build across
the region and become overhead on Saturday with cold and dry weather
to continue. Temperatures to be well below normal with high only
reaching into the upper 30s to low 40s under sunny skies.
Saturday night through Thursday...Models continue to show a
significant low pressure system developing over the Central Plains
on Saturday and lift into the OH Valley Saturday night/Sunday. There
is a concern for possible wintry mix late Saturday night into Sunday
morning as cold air will be present. At this time there can be
little to no accumulations, but will continue the mention of
rain/snow mix in the forecast late Saturday night into Sunday
morning, but it transitions completely back to rain as WAA will
filter into the area. Models continue to show a secondary low
(Miller-B) to form off the Mid-Atlantic coast leading to more rain
and possible a rain/snow mix on the back-side of the low as it lifts
away with lingering showers on Tuesday. High pressure is forecast to
build into the region by midweek. Expect highs in the upper 40s to
mid 50s Sunday/Monday, then temperatures drop back into the 40s.

and cigs starting to lower and expect pred IFR or worse rest of
the night. Rain will grad mix with and change to snow from NW
to SE thru daybreak with some lower vsbys at times in mod snow.
The snow will grad end from W to E thru mid morn with cigs
lifting to MVFR. Clouds will grad sct out with VFR rest of pd
from late morn on. NNE winds will be increasing thru the night
and become more NW Thu with peak gusts 20 to 30 kt mid morn thru
mid aftn.
Long Term /Thursday night through Monday/...
As of 245 AM Thursday...VFR conditions to dominate through
Saturday as high pressure builds into the region. Another round
of sub-VFR conditions will be possible Sunday in Monday as
precip will spread across the area.

As of 230 AM Thu...Sfc low now just off the SE coast with
strong pres falls over the region. Mdls all show the low
deepening significantly today as its moves ENE. Winds now
approaching Gale force and shld increase a bit more thru the
morn as low deepens...cont Gale Warning for all but inland
rivers. As the low moves further away tonight winds will slowly
diminish but still be in strong SCA to marginal Gales with
strongest winds central and nrn wtrs. Seas will build to 8 to 11
ft today and subside only slightly tonight.
Long Term /Fri through Monday/...
As of 300 AM Thursday...NW winds will gradually subside Friday
to 20-25 kts, then becoming 10-20 kt Saturday. Winds will veer
E 10-15 kts Sun morning and become SE 15-20 kts Sunday
afternoon. Seas will remain elevated from the central waters
north through Saturday, while seas to the south will become 2-4
ft. Seas will build above 6 ft on Sunday though Monday as a low
pressure system is forecast to develop off the Mid- Atlantic
coast and winds will become SW/W 15-20 kts.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
As of 230 AM Thu...Rapidly deepening low pressure off of the
coast today will produce Gale Force northerly winds. This will
lead to minor coastal flooding adjacent to the southern Pamlico
Sound across Hatteras Island, Ocracoke, and Down east Carteret
county today into tonight with water levels of 1 to 2 feet above
ground level. Cont a Coastal Flood Advisory for these areas.
Rough surf also expected, mainly north of Hatteras. Have issued
a High Surf Advisory for the beaches from Cape Hatteras N where
some ocean overwash may develop during the high tide cycles.
