.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure will remain across the Mid Atlantic and Northeast,
while a coastal trough evolves into a slow moving tropical or
subtropical low pressure area off the Carolina coast through
early next week.

&&

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/...
As of 715 AM Saturday...No major changes in the near term as
the forecast remains on track. 06Z models are in good agreement
regarding the deepening of the coastal low as it slowly moves
NNWward up the coast through the afternoon. However, recent MSAS
shows the low has deepened slightly lower than guidance by this
time. Because of this, have slightly bumped up winds and
rainfall amounts. By 2pm local, the center of the low is
forecast to be ~150mi SE of Cape Lookout. Rainfall amounts of
1/2 to 1inch inland and 1 to 1 and a half inches for the
Southern OBX are expected. As such, WPC has placed our CWA in a
Marginal Risk for excessive rainfall and the central OBX in a
Marginal Risk for today with the possibility of ponding and flooding
of low lying areas increasing. With moist antecedent soil
conditions, the situation will be monitored closely through the
day.

Previous Discussion....
As of 330 PM Fri...As the mid level trough moves into the
Carolinas, it is forecast to intercept the developing low off
the Carolina coast during the day, keeping widespread showers in
the forecast. Some heavier rain bands will develop esp srn/ern
zones where strong low level FGEN is noted on model x-sections.
A few thunderstorms may be embedded in the heavier showers, but
CAPE vals will be tempered due to the widespread showers and low
stratus keeping temps relatively cool with highs struggling
into the mid 70s. Conditions will become breezy along the coast
as gradient inc with approaching low from the southeast.

.SHORT TERM /6 PM THIS EVENING THROUGH 6 AM SUNDAY/...
As of 430 AM Saturday...The 00Z Euro and GFS, and now the 6Z
NAM are in better agreement as far as positioning of the low,
slowing the NNW motion late Saturday and wobbling slightly to
the south, ~75-100mi SSE of Cape Lookout. The onshore flow and
very moist atmospheric conditions will allow for heavy rain
showers with the possibility of isolated thunder to continue to
be slung around the low and pushed ashore. Rainfall through the
period for first tier coastal counties 1/2 to 1 inch, 1 to 1 and
a half inches along the coast from Western Carteret to the NOBX,
and Eastern Carteret to Hatteras Inlet up to 2 inches.

.LONG TERM /SUNDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
As of 340 AM Saturday...Increasingly unsettled conditions
Sunday into Monday as deep moisture remains in place with
potential low development off the NC/SC coast. Return to benign
conditions by Tuesday persisting through late week.

Sunday into Monday...Slightly negatively tilted upper trough
extends south- southeastward from the Great Lakes down to
Florida as ridging increases over Mexico/southwestern TX. The
trough becomes more N-S oriented as it moves overhead early
Sunday. At the SFC, subtle model differences in the depth,
location, and progression of the coastal trough/low still exist.
Those differences impact the conditions locally, making for a
less confident forecast. NHC has the chance of tropical
development for the low in 2/5 days as moderate (40%/40%
respectively). Regardless of tropical development, the area will
receive mostly onshore flow in the north in a very moist air
mass with PWATs at the lowest 1.75 inches inland and at or above
2 inches along the coast. Showers and isolated tstorms push
ashore through the day and with better upper level support,
heavy downpours become possible. Ample cloud coverage and precip
cooling keeps highs in the upper 70s. Very muggy mornings with
lows in the mid 60s.

Tuesday through Friday...Ridging at the surface and aloft is
expected to build over Eastern NC. Trends will be drier and
warmer a high pressure increases over the area lasting through
late week. Highs in the low 80s through most of the week

.AVIATION /11Z SATURDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
SHORT TERM /through Sat/...
As of 720 AM Saturday...Sub VFR conditions expected through the
period as coastal low keeps rain shower activity, isolated
thunder, and low CIGs in play. EWN METARs have returned.
IFR CIGs are expected through most of the day. There is a brief
window where CIGs could lift to MVFR late morning into the early
afternoon, however it is likely that they will bounce back to
IFR, especially under heavier rains, so tempo groups have been
included. Strong IFR remains through early the afternoon with
numerous showers, isolated thunder, and predominantly
NEerly/onshore flow. Cigs may slowly improve a bit later but
still looks like mainly sub VFR. Stronger winds associated with
weak low approaching the coast increase winds through the day
and make gusts around 15kts for inland terminals and 15 to 20kts
coastal possible. Showers and heightened winds remain through
the overnight when CIGs will aprroach LIFR levels again. Low
level wind shear around FL020 will be a concern for coastal
terminals overnight with the most confidence near EWN but the
exact track of the offshore low remains uncertain so LLWS was
not included for OAJ but is worth mentioning here.

LONG TERM /Tonight through Wednesday/...
As of 350 AM Saturday...Increasing low level moisture advection
with onshore flow will bring increasing shower/tstorm chances
and temporary flight restrictions through the weekend as a SFC
low meanders just off the NC coast. Conditions remain favorable
for morning fog and/or stratus until the SFC low lifts north of
the area Monday with high pressure spreading over the area late
Monday into Tuesday.

.MARINE...
SHORT TERM /through Saturday/...
As of 730AM Saturday...Mainly NE winds 10 to 20 kt with seas 3
to 5 ft through the morning. The 13E Hatteras buoy is reporting
5.5ft. Increasing winds through the period as low pressure
approaches from the SE with SCA developing for coastal waters
and most sounds/rivers. With the last update at 0400, slightly
increased wind speeds as the low is presently slightly deeper
than models have suggested at this point. The latest HiRes
guidance is suggesting sustained winds approaching gales
overnight tonight, but have not increased our winds that high at
yet. SCAs scheduled for all coastal waters, sounds, and rivers
except for the Pamlico River, which will be sheltered from the
NE/Nerly winds. The low is forecast to slow its NNW motion
through the afternoon while deepening, reaching ~75-100miles SE
of Cape Lookout by 8pm local tonight. 6 footers build in to the
central waters by noon today and continue to ramp up elsewhere
through the day. Gusts up to 25 kts become likely mid-afternoon
working in from S to N. Tonight 20 to 25 kt winds with gusts up
to 30kts likely for coastal waters. Seas continue to build to 7
to 9 ft north of Cape Lookout and 6 to 8 feet to the south late
tonight.

LONG TERM /Sunday through Wednesday/...
As of 350 AM Saturday...As the surface low off the SC/NC coast
moves closer to the NC coast on Sunday, the pressure gradient
tightens with weak high pressure to the north, resulting in
increasing NE winds up to 15 to 20 kts with gusts to 25kts.
Seas build with increasing winds to 5 to 7ft for coastal waters
and will maintain SCAs Sunday through Monday for coastal
waters. Sunday, winds over the Pamlico Sound may reach SCA
criteria with gusts of 25kts. There remains uncertainty with
potential tropical development near the coast late today into
Sunday. Heightened seas linger through the weekend into the
early week for northern waters. Winds eventually shift more
northeasterly and slightly decrease to 10-15 kts with seas
subsiding from S to N. Southern waters subside 2-4 ft early
Monday, but 4-6 ft lingers north of Ocracoke Inlet through
Monday night. By Tuesday into Wednesday, winds diminish to 10-15
kt with seas subsiding to 2-4 ft.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
As of 325 PM Fri...Minor coastal flooding will be possible this
weekend as an area of low pressure to our south produces
moderate onshore flow. There are two main areas of concern. The
first being locations adjacent to the southern Pamlico Sound,
tidal Pamlico and Neuse Rivers, and along Core Sound. Here
persistent northeasterly flow will combine with higher than
average King Tides, leading to minor flooding of low lying
areas next to these waterways late Saturday and into Sunday. The
second area of concern will be oceanside along the Outer Banks
during times of high tide where onshore NE/ENE flow will combine
with large waves, and aforementioned King Tides to produce
above normal water levels, with the potential for beach erosion
and minor ocean overwash.
