.DISCUSSION...26/00Z NAM in.
Post-frontal showers and isolated thunderstorms this afternoon are
now diminishing as surface heating wanes and an upper level
trough departs the area.
An upper level ridge will build into the area tonight, then break
to the east of the areas Wednesday afternoon. A thermal trough
near the coast will move inland Wednesday. This will bring a
short period of dry and much warmer weather to the area. Afternoon
humidities will be quite low as well.
The pattern will remain progressive, and the next upstream trough
will move onshore Thursday. The associated front will move
onshore late Wednesday night. This will bring another round of
precipitation to the area along with cooler temperatures.
As usual with an incoming front, winds will be gusty east of the
Cascades. Earlier, it looked like the winds would peak in the
morning. Now it looks like the peak will occur in the afternoon.
So, the peak will now coincide with the afternoon high temperatures
and the lowest humidities. However, the humidities Thursday
afternoon will be significantly higher than the Wednesday
afternoon humidities. It does not look like the combination of
winds and humidities will lead to Red Flag conditions. It is still
a fire weather concern though.
The upper level trough will move out to the east Thursday night
into Friday, and a strong upper level ridge will build into the
area. This one is going to hang around for a while. A thermal
trough will deepen along the coast with easterly winds developing
over the Coast Range ridges by Friday morning. The ridge will
continue to build and remain over the region into next week.
Ensemble meteograms are all in agreement with zero precipitation
and increasing temperatures into the very end of the extended
forecast next Tuesday. Inland high temperatures Tuesday are
forecast to be around 20 degrees above normal values.

.AVIATION...For the 26/00Z TAF Cycle...Scattered showers
with local mountain obscuration continue across eastern Douglas,
Klamath, and Lake counties this evening. The greatest frequency is
in Lake County, including Lakeview. Also, IFR stratus north of Cape
Blanco extends across the coastal waters into the Coquille Valley,
including KOTH/North Bend. This IFR will thicken overnight into
early Wednesday morning with a mix of IFR and MVFR also spreading
into the Umpqua Valley, including KRBG/Roseburg. The stratus will
gradually dissipate during Wednesday morning. Elsewhere, VFR will
persist into Wednesday evening. -DW

.MARINE...Updated 800 PM PDT Tuesday 25 May 2021...A weak thermal
trough near the coast has brought a brief period of moderate north
winds and choppy seas south of Cape Blanco this evening. Calmer
winds and seas are expected later tonight into Wednesday. A cold
front will bring gusty south winds and steep seas Wednesday night
into Thursday.
An update has been issued to issue a Small Craft Advisory for the
outer waters north of Cape Blanco late Wednesday evening through
Thursday evening, with south winds expected to reach advisory
strength with the front late Wednesday evening into early Thursday
morning, then a building, fresh west swell into Thursday evening.
Winds briefly diminish Thursday night. On Friday, a stronger thermal
trough will develop and persist through the weekend. Expect strong
north winds, possible gales, and steep to very steep seas, with the
strongest winds and highest seas south of Cape Blanco. -DW
&&
.FIRE WEATHER...Updated 800 PM PDT Tuesday 25 May 2021...From a
fire weather perspective, the next point of note is that RHs are
likely to dip into the 10-20% range Wednesday afternoon for
portions of the interior West Side and across most of the East
Side.
On Thursday, a front with waning moisture is likely to result in
breezy to windy conditions that are likely to gust in the 30 to 45
mph range from the Rogue and Shasta Valleys eastward (highest across
Lake and Modoc counties). RHs will rise to above critical levels,
however.
Thereafter, it should be noted that a period of much above normal
temperatures is possible from about Sunday, May 30th into the first
week of June. While the European Center model guidance suggests this
period of much above normal temperatures will be lesser and more
short lived than the Global Forecast System guidance, both do
suggest a 1 week period of temperatures 10 degrees or more above
normal is possible.
