Lots of low clouds and fog in the west side valleys this morning.
Some high clouds are skimming through the area as well, but not
nearly as much coverage as the past few mornings.
The hemispheric projection continues to show a wave number of
four around the globe. This is usually a progressive pattern, and
that will be the case here, although the storm track will remain
north of the Medford forecast area in the near term.
Zooming in to the Pacific Northwest, flat long wave ridging with
nearly zonal flow aloft will persist through the end of the week.
Weak short waves embedded in the flow will push weak fronts
onshore today and again Saturday. The ridge will build just off
the coast Saturday night into Sunday.
All this will make for relatively quiet weather through Sunday
over the Medford forecast area. An Air Stagnation Advisory is in
effect for many of the Oregon valleys into Monday morning. See

The next several days will see gradually diminishing overnight
low clouds and fog in the valleys as the air mass dries out, but
it won't disappear completely. Stable conditions will persist,
and this will support continued air stagnation through Sunday.
The weak fronts may bring very light precipitation to the north
coast and extreme northern Douglas county Thursday and Saturday,
but amounts will be a few hundredths of an inch at best. It is
more likely that any precipitation that does occur will not be
measurable.
The ridge will break down Sunday night as a strong short wave
overrides it. The associated front will move onshore Monday, and
this will bring the next chance of significant precipitation to
the area beginning late Sunday night. Snow levels look to be
rather high with this system initially, starting off around 7000

Night 08/09 Dec 2021. Ensembles continue to show a moist front
spreading precipitation into the Pacific Northwest Sunday night
through Monday as a low moves into the region from the northwest.
There remains some variability on the exact precipitation amounts.
National Blend of Models (NBM) and the GFS and ECMWF ensemble
means support precipitation amounts of 0.25 to 0.75 inches for
most areas from the Cascades west with higher amounts possible
over the mountains. The NBM indicates a 40 to 60 percent
probability of 1.0 inches or more of precipitation across the
coastal mountains, Southern Oregon Cascades and western foothills
and mountains in Western Siskiyou County during this period. East
of the Cascades, ensembles support precipitation amounts of around
0.10 to 0.5 inches. These amounts represent mean values based on
current ensembles and may change as this system evolves though. Of
note, there is good confidence that this system will largely
bring rain and little in the way of snow. Snow levels are forecast
to remain high, around 7000 to 10000 feet ahead of and with the
frontal band, then lower to 4500 to 6000 feet Monday night behind
the front with scattered showers expected. Additionally, as this
front moves into the area, expect a potential for gusty southwest
winds from the Cascades east. The latest NBM forecast shows a 60
to 70 percent chance for winds gusting 35 to 40 kt across portions
of northern and central Lake County and higher terrain east of
the Cascades as well as into south-central Oregon Cascades.
There is a break in the wet weather Tuesday with only a slight
chance to chance (20 to 30 percent) of light showers, mainly from
the Cascades west. Then mid-week a weaker frontal system is forecast
to bring additional chance for mainly light precipitation into the

.AVIATION...02/12Z TAFs... More of the LIFR ceilings and
visibilities within the valleys west of the Cascades this morning.
In addition to the lower stratus and fog, the high clouds are a bit
farther north this morning. Models are expecting those higher
clouds stay a bit farther north into this afternoon, which should
allow us to get more surface heating and mix up the boundary layer a
bit today. Like yesterday, some locations will mix out of the LIFR
conditions and some will stay under some type of stratus deck. It
appears there is some type of cold boundary or front sitting just to
our north today. This should create some scattered lower clouds,
especially farther to the north in the Umpqua valley and along the
northern portions of the coast. So to sum it all up, LIFR conditions
early with a mix of MVFR to IFR during the day. The fog returns
again Thursday night.
With little having happened last night and dewpoints about the same
as they were 24 hours ago, we're not expecting fog impacts east of
the Cascades tonight into Thursday.

.MARINE...Updated 200 AM PST Thursday 02 December 2021...The high
10 to 12 foot swell at 12 to 14 seconds will continue through
this morning before subsiding some later this afternoon and
evening. In general, these seas will be hazardous to smaller
crafts as they remain above 10 feet.
Meanwhile, northerly winds will gradually increase through this
evening, likely reaching small craft advisory levels for nearly all
locations and nearing gale force for some of the area south of Cape
Blanco and west of Point Saint George this afternoon and evening.
The combination of building wind seas and swell will result in very
steep seas generally 5 NM west of the coast westward south of Cape
Blanco as early as Thursday afternoon. We'll need to keep an eye on
this because previous data suggested the very steep seas were more
likely to happen in the evening and beyond 10NM of the coast. Winds
are forecast to lower Friday, but seas are likely to remain steep,
around 10 feet. A weak front is likely to brush the area on or about
Saturday night. This is expected to be followed a seasonably strong
front Monday.
