.DISCUSSION...

Cold frontal boundary continues to slowly sag SE across the CWA
early this Tue morning...with temps dropping into the low 30s to low
40s behind this front. South of the front...temps remain in the mid
to upper 40s. Some fog...DZ and -RA has been noted well behind the
front in the NWRN portions of the CWA in NERN AR.

The aforementioned boundary will meander across the CWA through Wed
afternoon...under SW flow aloft. Some weak disturbances will move
over the region in this SW flow...keeping some POPs going for -RA or
DZ through Wed afternoon. However...the NWRN portions of the CWA
will see temps hovering around or just below freezing for at least
some portion of this timeframe...with -FZRA or FZDZ possible Tue
night into Wed morning. May have to post a Winter Wx Adv for some
light icing potential as a result...but will discuss with the
morning shift on how to handle the messaging given the more
significant impacts expected later in time.

By Wed night...the colder air will push further SE about the same
time a stronger upper disturbance passes over the region. This will
generate more significant QPF for portions of the mid-south. Temps
will drop into the upper 20s to low 30s for at least the NW half of
the CWA...with the potential increasing for significant icing for
this same region. Looks like the best overlap of highest QPF and
coldest temps will be from 00Z through 18Z Thu...where ice
accumulations over one-quarter inch will be possible. This potential
will be generally along and NW of a line from Forrest City...to West
Memphis...NW of Jackson TN...to around Camden. Areas along and just
south of this line will see lesser ice amounts...but given temps
hovering around freezing in this zone...chose to include them in the
Winter Storm Watch with the counties further NW. Keep in mind there
continues to be some uncertainty regarding the extent of the cold
air...and how far south this air will move. Expect continued
refinements in the forecasts over the next 24-36 hrs as the Winter
Storm Watch may transition to either an Ice Storm Warning or Winter
Weather Adv.

Arctic air will settle across the region by this weekend...with
temps in the 20s and 30s for highs. Some areas may struggle to warm
out of the teens by late this week. Lows will drop down into the
single digits and teens. Wind chills will drop into the single
digits and teens...and even potentially below zero by late this
weekend.

Dry weather looks to persist over the weekend...until a new storm
system approaches the region early next week. Given how entrenched
the Arctic airmass may be by this time...there looks to be potential
for some additional wintry weather in the forecast early next week.
However...many things can change between now and then...so will hold
off discussing specifics this far out in time.

This hazardous weather outlook is for portions of East Arkansas...
the Missouri bootheel...North Mississippi...and West Tennessee.

.DAY ONE...Tonight

A few areas across northeast Arkansas and the Missouri bootheel
could see some patchy freezing drizzle. Widespread travel impacts
are not expected.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Tuesday through Sunday

There is a threat for wintry precipitation across portions of the
Mid-South, mainly Tuesday night through Thursday night. Timing
and amounts still remain uncertain for now, though it appears that
areas along and north of I-40 from Wednesday night into Thursday
stand the best chance of seeing wintry weather and light ice
accumulations.

Please refer to the latest forecasts in the coming days for
details regarding the evolution of the cold air surge and any
potential wintry weather.

Wind chill values may drop into the single digits along and north
of I-40 Friday morning and across much of the Mid-South Saturday
and Sunday mornings. Below zero wind chills are possible across
northern areas of the Mid-South Sunday morning.
