Mid and high clouds are streaming northeast through Arkansas this morning with low clouds having trouble making it into north Arkansas with drier air in place there. Light winds will switch from west and southwest to northwest during the day. Precipitation chances return tonight after 06Z. MVFR conditions are expected late tonight. && .PREV DISCUSSION...(ISSUED 407 AM CST Tue Jan 26 2021) SHORT TERM...Today Through Wednesday Night An upper low is over the Rockies with southwest flow ahead of it through the Plains into the Midwest. The upper low moves into the Plains tonight and through Arkansas Wednesday. Ridging moves into the area Wednesday night. A secondary cold front continues to move through east Arkansas this morning. This will just bring a reinforcing shot of cool and dry air to the region. Dense fog is across northeast and parts of central Arkansas and a Dense Fog Advisory has been issued through 14Z. Expect conditions to improve after 14Z. Moisture will return to the area tonight with a low pressure system. This will bring a chance of rain. Snow and sleet will be possible in the north. Snow accumulations will be less than an inch Wednesday morning with minimal impacts. Rain should end in the east Wednesday afternoon and high pressure will continue to move into the state through Wednesday night. Above normal temperatures are expected today, 40s to 60s, then cooler and below normal Wednesday, 30s to 50s. LONG TERM...Thursday Through Monday A broad upper level ridge over the Plains will move eastward to the east coast by the weekend. Surface high pressure over much of the eastern half of the country will slowly push eastward as well, with southerly flow returning to the state Friday. Above average temps are expected during this time, with highs reaching the mid 50s to mid 60s by Saturday afternoon. An upper trough will come ashore along the CA coast late Fri, moving into the southern Plains by early Sat with a storm system moving through KS/MO over the weekend.
