.AVIATION...

SHRA has become more widespread this morning as activity lifts NE
over the state. Some sites have already seen MVFR or lower
conditions as a result...with other sites likely to follow this
morning and afternoon. Some TSRA will also be possible at
sites...with VCTS mentioned. No significant improvements are
expected through the end of this TAF period.

.PREV DISCUSSION...(ISSUED 253 AM CDT Tue Jun 1 2021)

SHORT TERM...Today Through Wednesday Night

Scattered showers continue to lift ne across the CWA early this Tue
morning downstream of a larger-scale upper trough to the west of the
state. A weak upper level disturbance is moving NE towards the state
early this morning downstream of this larger upper trough to the
west. The coverage of SHRA will become more widespread over time as
this upper disturbance passes over the state. Weak SFC low pressure
to the SW of the state early this morning will also attempt to lift
NE into SRN sections of the state by this afternoon...with some
increased chances for TSRA as well...as instability will be
increasing somewhat.

While the overall threat for seeing organized SVR Wx looks to remain
low through this afternoon/evening...there could be a couple strong
to briefly SVR storms...mainly across the SRN/South central sections
of the state. This will be in closer proximity to the SFC low where
there will be some increased...albeit still limited...instability.
Strong to damaging winds will be possible with the strongest storms
in this region of the state...though some marginally SVR hail could
also be possible.

Rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible across central to the
NWRN portion of the CWA through this evening...with an increased
threat for flash flooding as a result. This is also in the same
areas as some recent heavy rainfall over the past 7-10 days. Will
keep the FFA going for the counties already in place as a result.

Chances for SHRA/isolated TSRA will continue beyond tonight as the
parent upper trough to the west/NW will keep sending disturbances NE
over the state through Wed afternoon/evening. These additional rounds
of SHRA will keep at least an increased threat for locally heavy
rainfall beyond tonight...with some isolated flash flooding
remaining possible Wed. However...organized and widespread heavy
rainfall is not expected at this time beyond tonight.

Temps through the short-term period will remain relatively cool for
this time of year due to the cloud cover and rain chances. Temps
will be mainly in the 60s and 70s today...and 70s to low 80s for
Wed. The active and wet pattern will persist into at least the early
part of the long term period.

LONG TERM...Thursday Through Monday

At the beginning of the period, what surface features there were
near/around the area will be ill-defined or washed out. Even with
lack of large scale synoptic forcing at the onset, shallow moisture
will interact with daytime heating and give us at least isolated/
scattered, diurnally-driven convection. By the weekend, however,
precip coverage should increase as longwave troughing digs down into
the Southern Plains from the Great Lakes Region and expands
westward, with a closed upper low developing near Baja California.
At the same time, longwave ridging will amplify over the southeast
coast.

The pattern will remain highly amplified as it shifts through the
weekend and into early next week. Long range models continue to
want to develop a blocking pattern over the western conus, and if
this scenario were to pan out, we could be looking at an extended
period of unsettled and rainy weather as upper flow will be
conducive to a continual influx of Pacific moisture into the region
while southerly surface winds reinforce low level moisture from the
Gulf.

With heavy rainfall already expected in the short term, and soils
nearly saturated as it is, it is quite likely we could need
additional flood/flash-flood related headlines during the long term
periods as this particular setup tends to be conducive to cellular
training.

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for a Large Part of Arkansas.

.DAY ONE...Today and Tonight

Showers and a few thunderstorms will become more numerous through
this afternoon and evening. Some strong to briefly severe
thunderstorms could be seen across mainly the southern half to
third of the state. Strong winds will be the primary threat with
the strongest storms...along with some marginally severe hail also
possible. Some areas of heavy rainfall could also be seen through
tonight...with an increased flash flood threat as a result over
western...northwestern and into northern sections of the area.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Wednesday Through Monday

For the middle of the week...scattered mainly afternoon and
evening showers and thunderstorms will be possible. By the weekend
however...showers and thunderstorms will become more widespread
as a slow-moving upper level system affects the state. Showers and
thunderstorms will remain likely into early next week. Rain could
be heavy at times...and this could lead to the threat of flash
flooding...especially in areas that received heavy rainfall early
this week. Some rises on area rivers and streams are possible as
well.

At this time...the threat of strong to severe thunderstorms is
low Wednesday through Monday.
