PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out
of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young
children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles
under any circumstances.

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When
possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or
evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat
stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when
possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational
Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent
rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone
overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.

High clouds are moving across the area this morning. Expect
cumulus to develop and become scattered. Isolated showers and
thunderstorms could pop up during the day. Patchy fog in the north
will bring MVFR conditions this morning, otherwise VFR conditions
are anticipated.

SHORT TERM...Today Through Monday Night
An upper ridge will build over the southern U.S. through Monday.
Upper low pressure will continue along the east coast today and
Monday.

Hurricane Henri will make landfall in the northeast later today. A
stalled front continues across central Arkansas this morning. This
front will eventually move north today. This will be the focus
for any showers and thunderstorms. Scattered showers and
thunderstorms are expected for mainly central and north sections.
A weakening short wave will also move across the area and as a
result rain chances will decrease in the afternoon. Included a
slight chance of precipitation in the east for Monday with another
weak trough. Temperatures will heat up this afternoon and highs
will be in the lower to mid 90s. Mid and upper 90s are expected
for Monday. With high humidity levels, heat indices will reach 105
to 110 degrees in the central and south sections and a Heat
Advisory is in effect for these areas. A warm night is expected
tonight with lows in the lower to mid 70s.

LONG TERM...Tuesday Through Saturday
The long-term period is consistent with strong ridging over the area
at 500mb keeping the forecast area in a pattern of mostly hot and
humid conditions. At the surface, high pressure over the southeast
will create an environment that the only chances for precipitation
will be diurnally driven and not amount to much in accumulation
or coverage.

Temperatures over the period are expected to remain in the mid
90s/upper 90s for high temperatures and heat index values could
remain at elevated levels over 100 degrees. The possibility for
heat advisories during the long term period is quite possible as
the high pressure at the surface across the SE will funnel in
plentiful amounts of moisture from the Gulf of Mexico driving up
dewpoint temperatures, thus driving up heat index values.

Dangerous heat returns across the central and southern portions
of the state today. Heat index values of 105 to 110 degrees will
contribute to dangerous outdoor conditions, and those with outdoor
plans should include contingencies for indoor air conditioned breaks.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Monday Through Saturday

Dangerous heat spreads into the area to begin the work week. High
Temperatures will be in the mid/upper 90's throughout the week and
heat index values are likely to be over 105 degrees. Chances for
showers/thunderstorms remain low however, any afternoon storms that
manage to form could contain locally heavy rainfall and lightning.
