.SYNOPSIS...

Low pressure and its associated cold front will cross the area
this afternoon. A secondary cold front will move through the
area Saturday. High pressure will build toward the region
Saturday night. Another cold front will cross the area early on
Monday. High pressure will return for the middle portion of next
week.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...

An upper level trough will swing through the area over the next
36 hrs with a cold front expected to move through the area this
afternoon. Showers and perhaps a thunderstorm will move into the
Appalachians shortly after daybreak and work its way slowly
eastward across the rest of the area exiting to the east late
this evening.

A very short dry period is expected late tonight before
additional shortwave energy rotates across the area Saturday
morning and generates additional showers. Some snow may mix it
at the highest elevations Sat morning as mid-level temps cool
substantially.

.SHORT TERM /SATURDAY THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT/...

More showers expected Saturday as secondary shortwave-trough and
associated cold front crosses the area. Trough axis crosses the
area during the afternoon with conditions improving rapidly late
Saturday afternoon.

Yet, another system will cross the area early on Monday with
warm advection precip developing on Mother's Day ahead of low
pressure system. Some decent rainfall totals are possible with
this system over far western MD where 1-2 inches are possible.
Flooding not of the question in Garrett County.

.LONG TERM /MONDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...

On Monday, a weak cold front will push through the region from the
north during the afternoon hours. There will likely be a large
difference in temps from north to south, with those north the front
only reaching the low to mid 60s, and those south of the front into
the low to mid 70s. Showers, and perhaps a few storms, are possible
ahead of the frontal boundary Monday afternoon as well. However,
instability still seems to be lacking, so severe threat is minimal
at this time.

High pressure slides into the region Monday night through Tuesday
night. This will result in a dry period across the region. Cooler
temperatures are expected as well, with highs only in the mid 60s on
Tuesday. Lows Monday night reach the mid 30s (along/west of the
Allgheny Front) to mid 40s, then a few degrees cooler on Tuesday
night, as high pressure moves directly overhead. Tuesday night could
see some Frost/Freeze headlines along the Allgheny Front.

The high then moves offshore Wednesday, as upper-level ridging builds
overhead briefly. So, Wednesday could be mostly dry as well, with
slightly warmer temps into the mid to upper 60s, perhaps nearing 70.

Wednesday night through Thursday, a low pressure system will be
approaching the region form the west as an upper shortwave ejects
out of the central Great Plains. This will likely bring rain to the
region by Thursday, if not as early as Wednesday night. Expect a
cool and wet day Thursday, with highs in the 60s yet again.

.AVIATION /08Z FRIDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...

Developing MVFR cigs this afternoon with showers, then
conditions improving late this evening as showers end. An
isolated thunderstorm is possible. Another round of showers on
Saturday, becoming breezy late in the day and Saturday night.
More rain/showers again on Mother's Day with possible flight
restrictions. Becoming windy late Sunday night and Monday.

VFR conditions expected Monday and Tuesday. A cold front sweeps
through from the north late on Monday afternoon, with showers and
storms possible. Could see brief restrictions should one of those
pass over a terminals, otherwise VFR. High pressure returns Monday
night through Wednesday.

Issued SCA for tonight across the southern waters as NW winds
strengthen. SCA all waters Sat continuing into Sat evening
before diminishing early on Sunday. Additional SCAs likely for
Sunday night and Monday. At this time, the risk of gales remains
low.

Expect Small Craft Advisories on Monday and Tuesday in the wake of a
cold front. Could see a few thunderstorms on Monday afternoon as
well, which could bring down some gusty winds as well.
