.SYNOPSIS...
A cold front will move through the region late this evening and
into Monday. High pressure builds back into the region through
the middle parts of this week before another front moves
through by next weekend.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
Another potent shortwave-trough will swing through the area
tonight with isold/sct rain showers east of the Appalachians and
mountain snow showers. Environment over the mtns will support
squally weather tonight with snow squall parameter showing CAPE
values up to 75 J/kg for a period tonight mainly between 03Z-
09Z and 850 mb winds of 40kt. A few rain showers could make it
east of the mtns this evening and early morning with trof
passage. We're currently evaluating new guidance to see whether
winter wx advisories need to expanded east and whether wind
advisories will also be needed for the same areas.

.SHORT TERM /MONDAY THROUGH TUESDAY NIGHT/...
The main forcing from the upper level trough is expected to shift
out of our region on Monday. Behind the frontal passage, a westerly
flow will lead to a continued threat for upslope induced snow
showers along the Allegheny front through Monday afternoon. The
threat for winter precipitation should start to taper late Monday
afternoon as upper level forcing weakens. Forecast soundings
suggests that strong low level winds will build into the region
behind the frontal passage. It seems the strongest winds will be
focused over our higher elevations but soundings suggest winds
should remain below wind advisory criteria. High pressure will
slowly build into the region as the front and it's associated low
pulls away from the region. Winds will slowly weakened through
Monday evening. The coolest low temperatures of this week will
likely occur Monday evening as the high slowly builds overhead and
skies become mostly clear and winds become light. Overnight lows on
Monday evening will be chilly in the 20s and lower 30s.
High pressure will remain in control on Tuesday leading to continued
mostly clear skies along with light and variable winds. Dry weather
along with afternoon temperatures in the low to mid 50s are
expected. The high shifts off-shore on Tuesday evening leading to
the formation of a weak southerly flow. This southerly flow will
lead to a slight warm up in overnight lows during Tuesday evening
with lows expected to drop down into the upper 30s to lower 40s.

.LONG TERM /WEDNESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/...
A highly sinusoidal and progressive synoptic pattern remains in
place across the continent next week. On Wednesday, broad height
rises will extend across the eastern third of the country ahead of a
large closed low centered over southern Manitoba. The increasing
heights and thicknesses should considerably raise temperatures over
the region. During the 24 hours leading up to Wednesday afternoon,
850-mb temperatures rise from just below freezing to around 8 to
10C. Given the lack of well mixed boundary layers in mid-November, a
dry adiabatic profile to 850-mb will be nearly unattainable.
However, it should prove to be quite a mild day with highs into the
mid/upper 60s. A few spots could breach the 70 degree mark given the
abundant sunshine. The warmth continues into the overnight hours
with lows around 10 to 15 degrees above climatology.
On Thursday morning, the mentioned upstream system will continue to
track across central Canada with the associated height falls
sweeping through the Mississippi River Valley. As the system nears
the Eastern Seaboard, the strongest forcing should stay well to the
north over New England into Ontario/Quebec. Thus, any of the more
concentrated precipitation will also be displaced northward. The
approaching cold front arrives late in the day which allows for
another mild day well into the 60s. Some frontal showers
accompany this system with amounts likely staying below a
quarter inch per ensemble probabilities. Overnight temperatures
will drop to below freezing levels across areas west of the Blue
Ridge/Catoctins.
While the frontal zone will shift well offshore by early Friday, a
few residual showers are possible east of I-95 as the upper trough
crosses overhead. Otherwise, conditions improve through the day with
increasing sunshine and highs in the upper 40s to low 50s, locally
into the 30s across the Alleghenies. A chilly night can be expected
as a 1032-mb surface high sets up across the eastern third of the
U.S. Widespread 20s are possible, with low/mid 30s along and east of
I-95. Tranquil weather continues into Saturday with a bit more cloud
cover as the dome of high pressure migrates offshore.

.AVIATION /15Z SUNDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
A cold front will pass through all terminals late this evening and
into Monday. Ahead of the frontal passage, skies will become
overcast but ceilings are expected to remain VFR. A chance for
showers will be possible for the MRB terminal along with the BWI and
MTN terminals. Confidence remains low on the threat for
precipitation, so I have kept out any mention for showers in our
TAFs at this time. Behind the frontal passage on Monday, winds will
become gusty with gusts of 20 to 25 knots possible Monday afternoon
at all terminals. Winds should weaken at all terminals by Monday
evening with winds remaining out of the west. VFR conditions will
remain in place through Tuesday with winds slowly become southerly
by Tuesday afternoon.
For Wednesday and Thursday, VFR conditions are expected at the area
terminals. The flow begins south-southwesterly before turning more
west to northwesterly by Thursday afternoon/evening as a cold front
approaches. Some showers are possible, but do not anticipate any
restrictions. While warm advection is in place, cannot rule out an
instance of fog Wednesday night if the winds can appreciably
diminish in strength.

.MARINE...
A cold front will pass through our marine areas late this evening
and into Monday. Small craft conditions likely this afternoon and
into Monday as southerly channeling combines with cool air over a
still warm bay to allow for good mixing. Winds will become strong
aloft on Monday which may require Gale Warnings for portions of our
region. A Gale Watch is in effect for all waters Monday afternoon.
Additional small craft advisories maybe necessary on Tuesday.
Southerly warm advection on Wednesday will persist through the
day with some potential for small craft conditions, particularly
over the wider waters of the Chesapeake Bay. Near-SCA
conditions continue into Thursday with winds shifting from
southerly to west- northwesterly by the evening in response to a
cold front.
