.SHORT TERM...  (Through Late Tonight)
Issued at 344 AM CST Fri Feb 5 2021

A disorganized area of clouds and light snow was moving rapidly
eastward through central MO early this morning associated with a
shortwave over southwestern MO. This cloud cover and patchy light
snow or flurries will shift east of our forecast area by late
morning. Not expecting any accumulation with this snow as it will
be light and brief. Another round of light rain/snow is possible
across central MO and southwest IL this afternoon and evening as
a weak cold front drops southeastward through our area. This will
also be a light QPF event. Colder air will advect into northeast
MO and west central IL behind this front tonight with lows almost
10 degrees below normal across this area.

.LONG TERM...  (Saturday through Thursday)
Issued at 344 AM CST Fri Feb 5 2021

Much more significant precipitation is expected Saturday
afternoon and evening ahead of a northern stream shortwave moving
through the Northern Plains and a southern stream shortwave moving
eastward through the Southern Plains that try to come into phase
by 00Z Sunday. Low level moisture will be somewhat limited across
our area. This combined with the progressive nature of the system
will limit snow accumulation. Temperatures will be warm enough
across southeast MO that the snow could mix with rain Saturday
afternoon which will lessen amounts in this area. The highest snow
accumulation will occur across northeast MO into west central IL
left or north of the track of a weak surface low which will move
eastward through central MO. Although there is still some
uncertainty with snow amounts it appears that 2 to 3 inches is
possible from Edina, MO to Quincy, IL with lesser amounts further
south of around 1 inch in the St Louis metro area to only one
half inch or less from FAM to SLO. Much colder temperatures are
expected beginning Saturday night as an Arctic High plunges
southward into our area from the Northern Plains. Light snow will
be possible across northeast MO and west central IL Sunday and
Sunday night due to low-mid level warm air advection over this
very cold air mass. More significant snow is possible from Monday
afternoon into Tuesday, although model solutions differ by this
time. Prefer the ECMWF model solution which is similar to the NBM
which has a surface low passing south of our forecast area as a
northern stream shortwave moves through the Northern Plains and
Great Lakes region. An even stronger 1035-1040 mb surface ridge
will drop into our area Tuesday night with the coldest air of the
Winter Season from Tuesday night into Thursday with temperatures
around 25 degrees below normal.

VFR conditions are expected to prevail at the terminals through
the majority of the forecast period. A brief round of flurries is
possible tonight at KCOU and the St. Louis terminals, but very
low confidence in it materializing led to its exclusion from the
TAFs. The main story concerns the impending round of snow on
Saturday. Lower CIGs should build into the region from west to
east through the morning. By around 18Z, the end of this period,
light snow should be approaching the terminals, bringing CIGs to
low- end VFR. MVFR, and possibly IFR, CIGs with reduced VSBYs will
build in quickly during the early afternoon, which will be
reflected in future TAFs.

SPECIFICS FOR KSTL:

VFR conditions are expected to prevail at the terminals through
the majority of the forecast period. A brief round of flurries is
possible tonight at KCOU and the St. Louis terminals, but very
low confidence in it materializing led to its exclusion from the
