.SYNOPSIS...19/238 AM.
A weak storm system will bring a chance of light rain to areas
north of Point Conception today, and to the northern mountains
this afternoon into early Saturday. It will be slightly cooler
today and Saturday, with gusty northerly winds at times over the
weekend into early next week. Temperatures will warm to above
normal by the middle of next week.

.SHORT TERM (TDY-SUN)...19/857 AM.
A weak cold front was bringing some light rain to SLO/nrn SBA
Counties early this morning. This front will move slowly SE
today, reaching VTU County by late in the day. Additional chances
of light rain will prevail across SLO/SBA Counties thru the
afternoon, with some light pcpn moving into the N mtn slopes of
VTU/L.A. Counties. Rainfall today will be generally 0.15 inch or
less, with snow levels above 8000 ft. It looks like S of Pt
Conception, including central and srn VTU County and most of L.A.
County, conditions should remain dry today with mostly sunny
skies. Breezy to gusty SW-NW winds are expected this afternoon,
strongest along the coast and into the L.A. County mtns and
deserts. Temps across the fcst area today are expected to be a few
degrees below normal over SLO/wrn SBA Counties while elsewhere it
should be near normal to a few degrees above normal. Highs for
the warmest vlys and inland coastal areas should reach the upper
60s to lower 70s.
An upper level trof over the E Pac is forecast to move E today then
inland into CA tonight and Sat. This will drag the cold front thru
L.A. County tonight then E of the area on Sat. There will be
lingering moisture on the N mtn slopes and into the Cuyama Vly and
far sern SLO County vlys/mtns tonight into early Sat, with a chance
of rain persisting. Snow levels will gradually lower to about 6000
to 7000 ft tonight and to near 5000 ft Sat morning. Additional pcpn
will be light with about 0.10 inch or less with just a dusting of
snow on the higher nrn slopes. Otherwise, skies will gradually
become mostly clear later tonight into Sat, altho marine layer
clouds are possible for the L.A. County coast and adjacent vlys into
Sat morning. Temps on Sat will be cooler in all areas and about
3-8 deg below normal. The warmest vlys and inland coastal areas
should top out in the mid 60s to around 70.
Some gusty sub-Advisory level NW to N winds are expected over the
SBA County mtns and S coast tonight, and into the nrn L.A. County
mtns and Antelope Vly later tonight into Sat morning. Winds will
then increase out of the NW-N Sat afternoon into Sat evening with
some Advisory-level gusts possible especially for the Central
Coast and SBA County mtns and S coast.
The upper level trof will linger over central and srn CA Sat night
into Sun morning, then move into far southeastern CA Sun afternoon,
with a broad NW-N flow aloft over the forecast area. Pressure
gradients will turn sharply offshore to the N and E Sat night
into Sun, with the NAM fcst LAX-DAG gradient at -1.5 mb for 12Z
Sun (-3.4 mb trend in 24-hours) and LAX-BFL at -5.1 mb (-2.9 mb
trend in 24-hours). Gusty N-NE winds can be expected across much
of the region later Sat night into Sun, with the strongest winds
in the mtns of L.A./VTU Counties, some of the wind-prone vlys of
VTU/L.A. Counties and into the Santa Monica Mtns, where some gusts
could reach Advisory-levels. With the offshore flow, skies will
be mostly clear across the region Sat night and Sun. Temps on Sun
will be a few degrees warmer and closer to normal for many areas.
Highs in the warmest vlys and inland coastal areas should be in
the upper 60s to low 70s.
.LONG TERM (MON-THU)...19/320 AM.
A ridge will nose into the Pac NW Monday while an upper low shoots
down the west side of the Rockies the Juxtaposition of these two
features will keep moderate N flow over Srn CA. This along with
offshore northerly sfc flow will bring two days of gusty winds for
the Mtns, Santa Clarita Vly, Antelope Vly and the SBA south
coast. the ridge will keep skies mostly clear most areas will warm
a degree or two (a little more across the mtns and Antelope Vly)
each day and by Tuesday Max temps will be a couple degrees above
normal for most of the area.
EC and GFS agree that high pressure over the great basin will peak
on Wednesday and will kick off a Santa Ana event. At this point it
does not look too strong. Skies will remain mostly clear. The
offshore flow will bring 3 to 6 degrees of warming to most of the
area and almost all of the csts and vlys will seem afternoon temps
in the 70s.
An inside slider will move on through Wednesday evening and will
usher in a good shot of cold air advection. There may be some
decent north winds Thursday morning. The warm temps from Wednesday
will be a distant memory as max temps will fall 6 to 8 degrees.

At 1112Z at KLAX...the marine layer was 300 feet deep. The top of
the inversion was around 1800 feet with a temperature of 14 C.
Moderate confidence for the Central Coast sites as MVFR cigs may
move in an out. There is a 30% chance of IFR cigs through 20Z.
There is a 20% chance of a light shower through 15Z.
Moderate to high confidence KSBA south. There is a 40% chance that
KOXR and KCMA will remain VFR and a 20% chance that LA coastal
sites will have MVFR cigs after 14Z.
KLAX...Moderate confidence in TAF. There is a 20% chance of MVFR
cigs after 14Z. High confidence that there will be no east wind
component greater than 5kt.
KBUR...High confidence in VFR TAF through 06Z, then low confidence
in low clouds tonight.

There is a chance of light rain today... primarily in the morning
from Point Conception northward.
For the Outer Waters... Small Craft Advisory (SCA) level winds
will develop across the outer waters this afternoon and continue
through at least Tuesday with Gale Force winds likely Saturday
night through Sunday and potentially through Tuesday. SCA level
seas will develop this afternoon and continue through Tuesday.
For the Inner Waters north of Point Sal... SCA level winds will
develop this afternoon and continue through at least Tuesday with
a forty percent chance of Gale Force winds Saturday night. SCA
level seas will develop this afternoon and continue through
Monday.
For the Inner Waters south of Point Conception... There will be
local gusts to 25 kt between Point Conception and San Nicolas
Island this afternoon and evening. SCA level winds will develop
across the inner waters midday Saturday and continue through at
least Tuesday with Gale Force winds likely Saturday night through
Tuesday near Point Conception and in the western end of the Santa
Barbara channel.
