VFR to MVFR conditions expected to prevail through the TAF period
outside of showers and storms. Expect southeast winds to
strengthen after sunrise and become gusty. Showers and storms
expected to affect the terminals Wednesday, with winds temporarily
becoming variable and gusting as high as 30 knots. Cigs and Vsbys
could also drop to IFR levels in the heavier storms.

SHORT TERM (Tonight through Friday)...
A series of shortwave troughs and mesoscale vorticity features
will continue to move east to northeast through the forecast area
the next couple days while deep layer high pressure remains
anchored over the east coast area and eastern states. Forecast
difficulties in timing of important features and the timing,
amount and placement of additional heavy rainfall is uncertain,
but additional heavy rainfall bringing at least a localized flash
flood threat is expected through Wednesday afternoon. Precipitable
water values are expected to be mostly in the 1.8 to 2 inch range.
Have extended the Flash Flood Watch through 7 pm Wednesday.
Average additional rainfall amounts of 2 to 3 inches are expected
with locally higher amounts likely. Will not speculate on the
higher end additional amounts, but would not be surprised to see
some pockets of at least 5 or 6 inches.
The other concern is high tides due to the persistent moderate to
strong southeast winds pushing water levels above the high average
tide (HAT). The most concerning tide gage is Waveland in Hancock
County which will likely reach levels that close or make numerous
roads/streets impassable for tomorrows midday/afternoon high tide
cycle in the Shoreline Park area and other low lying areas near
the Gulf, Jourdan River and other adjacent tidal waterways. Have
upgraded the Coastal Flood Advisory to a Warning across Hancock
County and expanded the Coastal Flood Advisory in area to include
all Gulf coastal areas of Mississippi and southeast Louisiana.
Rain chances will remain elevated over about the southwest half of
the forecast area into Thursday, but average additional rainfall
amounts are forecast to be mostly around one half inch or less.
High pressure will start to expand a bit west on Friday which will
lower rain chances and additional rainfall amounts. Temperatures
will remain mostly below normal for highs, but gradually rise into
the mid 80s for more areas by Friday.
LONG TERM (Saturday through Tuesday)...
Deep layer high pressure will retrograde west and become centered
over or near the central Gulf coast region through the period.
This will result in a much needed dry period, however temperatures
will become very warm and above seasonal averages for late May.
Tide levels and ranges will be lowering due to lighter winds and
a neap tide.
AVIATION...
Conditions will mostly range from VFR to MVFR with occasional IFR
mainly during SHRA/isolated TSRA through early evening.
Conditions will become more prevailing MVFR by late evening
through mid morning Wednesday mainly due to lower CIGS and
occasional lower visibility in BR and SHRA. Additional mostly
isolated TS may briefly impact terminals through the TAF period,
but will need to fine tune timing in later TAF issuances. Mostly
VFR conditions should return Wednesday afternoon.
MARINE...
The persistent stronger southeast wind flow regime will persist
through at least Friday with seas across most coastal waters
rising into the 7 to 10 feet range. Have expanded the Small Craft
Advisory to include the Mississippi Sound and extended in time
through Friday evening. The high pressure area to the east should
finally build west across the central Gulf Coast coastal waters by
Sunday which will bring lighter winds and subsiding seas.
