  Sunday morning and fall to around 13.0 feet on Thursday.  The 
  river is then expected to start rising again and go above flood 
  stage Sunday, June 20 and continue rising to a crest of 15.0 feet 
  Wednesday, June 23.
* Impact...At 14.0 feet, Secondary roads to the river and throughout 
  Honey Island Swamp are inundated. Property in the vicinity of the 
  gage is flooded threatening about 20 homes along the left bank.

  the Pearl River Near Bogalusa.
* Until late tomorrow morning.
* At 7:00 PM CDT Friday the stage was 18.5 feet.
* Flood stage is 18.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...The river is expected to fall below flood stage late 
  tonight.
* Impact...At 18.5 feet, Woodlands and crop acreage along the river 
  will be flooded. The Bogue Chitto Wildlife Management area will be 
  inundated with water in recreational camps and over access roads.

* At 7:00 PM CDT Friday the stage was 15.5 feet.
* Flood stage is 14.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...The river is expected to fall below flood stage Sunday 
  evening.
* Impact...At 15.5 feet, Secondary roads to the river and throughout 
  Honey Island Swamp are inundated. Property in the vicinity of the 
  gage is flooded threatening about 20 homes along the left bank. 
  The Bogue Chitto National Wildlife Refuge will be closed to 
  hunting at the 15.5 foot stage.

...MORNING UPDATE...

Quick update this morning shows very light/shallow shower activity
for some areas generally across coastal SE LA and the Northshore,
east across coastal MS. Most of these areas reside along linear
Cu streets/boundaries as indicated by GOES-16 Day Cloud Phase
Distinction RGB with a steady E to ENE movement. Have added light
PoP chances in these regions this morning with coverage shifting
east with time through around noon. Otherwise it's that time of
the day where normal daytime Cu develops areawide from surface
heating. Taking a look at the 12Z KLIX RAOB this morning and
comparing to the previous 12/24 hour trends does not show many
differences in the vertical wind and thermal profile, other than
some increased moisture in the lowest surface to 850MB. Meanwhile
glancing aloft, weak and broad cyclonic curvature remains in place
all across the northern Gulf coast, lacking in speed magnitude
and sharp directional change with very little attendant vorticity
or dynamic lift in the vicinity. We will climb easily into the
lower 90's for many areas today, with plenty of building SB/MU
CAPE similar to the previous few days. However, there will be even
more to prevent widespread coverage regardless of so much
instability and Tc's lower than forecast highs. Noticing short-
range guidance hinting at a subtle subsidence inversion with H7 to
H8 which will hinder/slow parcel acceleration above this layer
into the hail growth zone (as indicated by poor low-level lapse-
rates) meaning shower/storm activity will be isolated - and mainly
confined to better forcing along small-scale boundary
interactions. Pinpointing these regions is difficult and comes
with little lead time in the forecast (Ex: Yesterday evening east
of New Orleans) but the main story for today will be the heat as
max heat indicies will climb back into the upper 90's to lower
100's, which will persist into the upcoming weekend. Will dive
deeper in regards to the weekend heat and shower/storm chances
with the afternoon package. KLG

.PREV DISCUSSION... /issued 350 AM CDT Fri Jun 11 2021/

SHORT TERM (Today through Sunday)...
Local area remains on the eastern periphery of upper level
ridging today. Subsidence aloft should keep convection at bay
today, allowing afternoon highs to rise into the lower 90s. With
dewpoints in the low to mid 70s, expect afternoon heat index
values to rise above the century mark most places.

Most of saturday will be quiet as well, but getting into the
afternoon, a shortwave diving down the west side of the upper
trough over the east coast could fire off an MCS. As this MCS
moves southeastward, it could clip roughly the northeastern third
of the CWA, and have included chance POPs during the afternoon
hours. This kind of northwest flow regime MCS can occasionally
result in strong to severe storms along the Gulf Coast, so will
need to monitor convective trends in where the MCS will track and
whether it could bring some stronger storms to the local area as
it passes by.

Any storms should wane after sunset but expect at least a weak
residual boundary to linger in the area Sunday. As daytime heating
destabilizes the atmosphere, expect scattered showers and storms
to refire along the boundary initially. These showers and storms
will kick out their own outflow boundaries which will serve as
additional convective foci. That being said, will carry solid
chance POPs on Sunday.

LONG TERM (Monday through Thursday)...
The extended portion of the forecast remains rather warm, and
humid, oh and miserable. Models all seem to be in agreement that a
more summer-like pattern will set up next week. NBM is advertising
this as well and see no reason to really deviate from that at
this point.

Even though the pattern we are moving into is very summer-like,
the forecast is not necessarily clear cut. At this time there is
no real change in the thinking as a very stout ridge is expected
to set back up over the Rockies and Plains by Sunday night. It
will be centered over the 4 corners with the ridge axis extending
well into western Canada. It will also extend across the deep
south and Gulf south into northern FL. That said mid lvl hghts
will not be abnormally high across the region likely hovering
around 588-590dm while h5 temps will remain near -8C. Neither of
these suggest rain will be completely shut down. In addition there
is indication that a mid lvl low could become cutoff over the
central/southern Gulf. Given the lack of a strong synoptic system
dominating the LL wind flow, winds will be very diurnal in nature.
This would suggest daily lake/sea breezes and with the mid lvls
not that suppressive convection along the coast looks likely each
afternoon. PoPs may actually be a little on the low side currently
if that low does develop in the Gulf. The location would actually
place the southern half of the CWA in a slightly better location
for rain Tuesday night and through Wednesday night.

Monday will likely be the driest of the days next week and thus
likely the hottest. The humidity will be quite high and with temps
expected in the lower to possibly mid 90s max heat indices could
climb into the mid 100s Monday afternoon.

Heading into the back half of the week could be wet. Multiple
possible reasons for this but there is beginning to be an increasing
trend towards a wet pattern set up. This is 7 days or more away and
will be watched closely over the coming days.

AVIATION...
VFR conditions should prevail through most of the period, with the
exception of possibly some patchy fog around sunrise.

MARINE...
Weak onshore flow will persist through the rest of the week and
upcoming weekend, with an eventual transition in westerly winds
late this weekend to northerly offshore winds by next week.
Waves/seas will remain light to calm through the forecast period,
with some daily nearshore showers possible around daybreak each
day. Some active weather will be possible late Saturday and
Sunday, especially for near coastal/protected waters where
enhanced wave/seas could be possible due to locally gusty winds,
with a strong or severe thunderstorm possible but will mainly be
confined to inland areas especially going into next week.
