.AVIATION...
[Through 00Z Monday]

IFR to low-end MVFR ceilings anticipated much of tonight around
800 to 1500 ft, with improvements to MVFR and VFR on Sunday. Some
general uncertainty though for later tonight as ceiling guidance
varies from barely MVFR to LIFR. Light rain and mist expected tonight
mainly for Duval terminals as well as SSI and SGJ as wrap- around
light showers rotate around the strong sfc low offshore of the
northeast FL coast. Sfc winds will be northwesterly tonight near
15-20 kt near the coast and lower winds inland at GNV to about
8-12 kt. These winds should slowly diminish through Sunday
becoming more north-northwest.

.PREV DISCUSSION [355 PM EDT]...

.NEAR TERM [Through Tonight]...

Conditions will slowly improve through the rest of the afternoon
and overnight as the intense low pressure translates northeastward
and further into the Atlantic.

Latest visible imagery depicts the center of an intensifying
surface low wobbling eastward well offshore. A large shield of
stratiform rainfall blanketed the area early this morning but
coverage has diminished across areas south of I-10 this afternoon
as the low shifts further east into the Atlantic and the dry slot
expands northward. Upper deformation zone will support enough lift
overnight to continue scattered wrap-around showers overnight
mainly across southeast GA and along the coast. There has been
thunderstorm activity offshore near the center of circulation and
this activity will remain offshore. As the gradient became tightly
pinched this morning wind gusts 50-60 mph were observed, primarily
along the coast. Gradients are still tight but have relaxed some
this afternoon with gusts decreasing to the 30-40 range. Winds
will continue to relax but remain breezy overnight as the low
kicks further into the Atlantic. That said, do not plan on
extending the Wind Advisory beyond this afternoon. As advertised,
moderate tidal flooding occurred along the Atlantic coast and into
the St John River Basin this afternoon (more information in the
Hydrology section below). Another cool night is expected with cold
air advection (northwest flow). Lows will be in the lower 40s
across inland southeast GA, mid 40s across northeast FL and low
50s along the coast.

.SHORT TERM [Sunday Through Monday Night]...

Between the slow departure of the stacked low and approaching
ridge, a dry and cool northerly flow scours out remaining
cloudiness through Sunday morning. Surface high pressure will
build from the west northwest into Monday as the upper ridge
begins to breakdown. Gradients will remain squeezed between high
pressure to the north and the low over the Atlantic to the
northeast. Breezy conditions for both coastal and inland areas are
expected to continue Sunday and Monday, trending from
northwesterly to northerly through Monday. Northerly winds will
prevent the St Johns from discharging and continue the threat of
Minor to Moderate tidal flooding, especially in the upper St Johns
River basin (more information in the Hydrology section below).

Cool northerly flow will continue below normal temperatures
through Sunday with highs staying in the mid to upper 60s
areawide. With a slight onshore component to the flow, overnight
temps will be warmest along the coast - in the low to mid 50s
while inland areas drop to the low to mid 40s once again.
Temperatures will slowly moderate Monday but remain below normal
Monday with highs upper 60s to low 70s

.LONG TERM [Tuesday Through Saturday]...

Flow will begin to veer east northeast (onshore) through the
middle of next week as high pressure remains wedged along the east
coast and upper ridge breaks down. By Thursday, return moisture
and upper troughing will begin to influence the southeast US. A
few shortwave pulses working through the cyclonic flow will renew
shower chances across the local area Thursday. Then a cold front
will press toward the region by Friday and will bring a chance of
thunderstorm. The front is progged to pass through the area by
Saturday with dry, cold air advection in its wake. Moistening and
warming onshore flow will allow temps to rebound through the end
of next week ahead of the next frontal system.

.MARINE...

Strong low pressure will shift further east into the open
Atlantic tonight. Very strong winds will begin to decrease from
Storm-force to Gale-force this evening offshore. Winds will
continue to decrease early next as high pressure builds from the
northwest. Due to a strong northeast swell in the wake of the low,
high seas will be prolonged and a Small Craft Advisory will
likely be needed through at least Tuesday. Onshore winds develop
midweek as high pressure shifts off the Atlantic Seaboard. A
frontal system will approach and pass over the waters late next
week.

Rip Currents: High surf and strong northeasterly swells will
continue a High Risk of frequent Rip Currents through at least
Tuesday along the entire First Coast.

.HYDROLOGY...

Coastal/tidal flooding...Coastal Flood Warning continues for the
coast and St. Johns River basin.

Today...The intensifying low pressure shifted further offshore
this morning setting up a more favorable northerly wind which
helped alleviate the peak intensities of tidal flooding. Peak
tides were generally observed between 2-3 feet MHHW along the
Atlantic coast and St Johns basin. Preliminary observations
indicate that this is highest magnitude coastal flood for a non-
tropical event. Tidal rises continue down the St Johns River this
afternoon.

Tonight & Sunday...Coastal water levels will lesson tonight as
the surface low tracks NE away from the region and offshore flow
develops, however, elevated tides will remain trapped in the St.
Johns River basin through early next week, sloshing (seiche
effect) north to south within the river basin during high tide periods. A Coastal Flood Advisories will likely be needed along the St Johns River basin early next week. In addition, battering surf and strong swells from the storm system will continue through at least Monday which will continue beachfront erosion issues.
