Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Jacksonville FL 832 PM EDT Wed Apr 28 2021 .UPDATE... Surface ridge will remain across the area tonight with mostly clear skies. Temperatures will fall into the low to mid 60s with patchy inland fog possible. && .PREV DISCUSSION [715 PM EDT]... .NEAR TERM [Through Tonight]... High pressure ridge from the Western Atlantic will linger across the region tonight and will lead to Mostly Clear skies and near normal temps with lows in the lower 60s inland and middle 60s along the coast. Light south flow may lead to some very patchy fog in some inland locations, but not expecting dense fog at this time. .SHORT TERM [Thursday Through Friday Night]... High pressure ridge in place on Thursday will continue above normal temps and dry weather with highs in the upper 80s to near 90 over inland areas and lower to middle 80s along the coast with a dominant Gulf Coast Sea breeze as the Atlc Coast sea breeze remains pinned along the I-95 corridor through the afternoon. Light southwest flow ahead of the front on Thursday Night will lead to low stratus and fog development from the NE Gomex that will track into NE FL and inland SE GA during the overnight hours with better chances for areas of fog and some locally dense fog mostly along the I-75 corridor of inland NE FL with overnight lows mostly in the middle 60s inland and upper 60s coast. Models still in decent agreement with weakening cool frontal boundary to push into the region from the Northwest with scattered showers and isolated storms across Southeast GA during the afternoon with lower coverage as it reaches the I-10 corridor of North FL by the evening hours, then basically washes out by the overnight hours on Friday Night. Models still differ a bit on the amount of energy, lift and moisture along this feature with the 12Z GFS run a bit more excited about rainfall chances than the 12Z ECMWF run. Overall still expect plenty of warmth ahead of this feature with abundant mid/upper 80s inland getting pushed all the way to the Atlc Beaches in the westerly flow ahead of the front and even some near 90 degree readings from JAX southward along the I-95 and US 301 highway corridors due to the late arrival of the frontal boundary and lack of much shower activity south of the JAX area on Friday Evening. Some cooling back into the lower 60s across inland SE GA Friday Night with mid/upper 60s elsewhere by Sat Morning. .LONG TERM [Saturday Through Wednesday]... Weak frontal boundary sags south of the region and washes out across Central Florida for the weekend then remaining moisture along this boundary lifts back northward through the area early next week as High Pressure from the Western Atlantic builds Northwest into the region through Wednesday. Following a brief return to near normal temperatures over the weekend the High pressure ridge will bring above normal temperatures into the upper 80s on Monday and into the lower 90s on Tuesday and Wednesday. While this period will feature mostly dry conditions, there will be enough moisture left over by the frontal boundary for a brief shower across Northeast Florida on Sat/Sun and then both NE FL and SE GA for Mon/Tue/Wed. These will mainly be focused during the afternoon hours as sea breeze activity presses inland from the Gulf and Atlc coasts and is typical for early May when there is only limited moisture available for sea breeze convection and an old frontal boundary in the area. .AVIATION...[Through 00Z Friday] VFR conditions will prevail through the period. Patchy fog will be possible at VQQ 07z-12z. Southeast winds will decrease later this evening as the seabreeze weakens. Winds will become SSW near 10 knots Thursday morning after 14z. .MARINE... South flow mainly in the 10-15 knot range into Thursday becoming Southwest ahead of the front Thursday Night and Friday. Weak frontal passage expected across the waters Friday Night will lead to a brief period of Northeast Winds at 15-20 knots and seas at 4-6 feet early Saturday morning and a possible Small Craft Exercise Caution headlines. Onshore flow will weaken to 10 to 15 knots and continue through the remainder of the weekend then become Southeast to South early next week as high pressure from the Atlc builds back into the local Waters.
