* Forecast...The river is expected to rise to 17.2 feet early Monday
afternoon. Additional rises are possible thereafter.
* Impact...At 11.0 feet, Bankfull conditions occur along the river
upstream and downstream from the gage on the U.S. Highway 221
bridge. Some flooding begins in low lying areas around 1.5 miles
upstream from the gage in south Montgomery County. The water will
approach portions of Three Rivers Lane...Altamaha River Road and
Ogle Sandbar Road.
* Impact...At 13.0 feet, Flood stage is reached. Minor flooding
occurs in the woodlands along the river upstream and downstream
from the gage on the U.S. Highway 221 bridge. The water reaches
the top of the public boat ramp by the bridge. Flood waters expand
in low lying areas in south Montgomery County around 1.5 miles
upstream from the gage. The water will begin to cover portions of
Three Rivers Lane...Altamaha River Road and Ogle Sandbar Road.
* Impact...At 14.0 feet, Minor flooding continues in the woodlands
along the river upstream and downstream from the gage on the U.S.
Highway 221 bridge. The water covers the low portion and entrance
of Towns Bluff Lane by the bridge. The public boat ramp is under
two feet of water. Flood waters expand further into south
Montgomery County around 1.5 miles upstream from the gage. The
water will be one to two feet deep over portions of Three Rivers
Lane...Altamaha River Road and Ogle Sandbar Road.
* Impact...At 16.0 feet, Minor flooding expands into the woodlands
along the river upstream and downstream from the gage on the U.S.
Highway 221 bridge. The water will be one to two feet deep over
portions of Towns Bluff Lane by the bridge. Flood waters continue
to expand further into south Montgomery County around 1.5 miles
upstream from the gage. The water will be 2 to 4 feet over large
portions of Three Rivers Lane...Altamaha River Road and Ogle
Sandbar Road.
* Impact...At 18.0 feet, Minor flooding expands further into the
woodlands along the river upstream and downstream from the gage on
the U.S. Highway 221 bridge. Flood waters will completely cover
Towns Bluff Lane by the bridge and begin to flood the slab
foundations of the elevated homes. Flood waters expand further
into south Montgomery County around 1.5 miles upstream from the
gage. The water will be 4 to 6 feet deep over large portions of
Three Rivers Lane...Altamaha River Road and Ogle Sandbar Road.
* Impact...At 19.0 feet, Minor flooding expands upstream and
downstream from the Highway 221 bridge. Flood waters near 3 feet
deep cover Towns Bluff Lane and flood the slab foundations of the
elevated homes. Flooding expands further into Montgomery County
with the water 5 to 7 feet deep over large portions of Three
Rivers Lane...Altamaha River Road and Ogle Sandbar Road. The water
reaches the top of boat ramps and parking lots will begin to flood
in Towns Bluff Park and along the end of Uvalda Landing Road in
Jeff Davis County.

Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Jacksonville FL 515 AM EST Wed Feb 17 2021 .AVIATION... [Through 12Z Thursday] Prevailing VFR conditions will continue through late morning under NNE winds increasing to 7-12 kts. Mid and low clouds will progressively invade from the SSW as a warm front lifts up the FL peninsula into the afternoon. MVFR stratus will overspread the terminals from south to north with spotty showers along the lifting front this afternoon and evening. Rain chances shift of the terminals this evening, trailed by stratus lowering to IFR to LIFR through 06z as low level winds veer ESE and relax to near 5 kts inland to 10 kts coast. After 06z through 12z, winds continue to shift to the SSE trailing the lifting warm front with models still indicating sea fog potential drifting inland from the Atlantic, impacting SSI and potential Duval county terminals prior to sunrise Thu. && .PREV DISCUSSION [300 AM EST]... .NEAR TERM [Today Through Tonight]...Cold front over south Florida this morning will start to lift north today as a warm front. Isentropic lift will increase over the area today as a sw flow overruns the shallow frontal boundary. Areas of light rain will develop over ne Fl this afternoon...shifting north into se Ga tonight. The front will move north into se Ga by late tonight as low pressure along the Texas coast moves ne to near the western Fl panhandle coast. Energy in the sw flow aloft ahead of an upper trough will produce some weak elevated instability. This may result in embedded isolated thunderstorms tonight over mainly se Ga. Temperatures across the area today will have a big range with highs in the mid/upper 50s over se Ga and in the 60s across ne Fl. Temperatures tonight will be much warmer with low in the 50s...with the potential for late night fog including over the coastal waters. .SHORT TERM...[Thursday Through Thursday Night]...A highly amplified upper trough will swing towards the eastern United States on Thursday as upper level energy digs south into the Midwest. An intense mid/upper level jet will stretch from Southern Texas to the Northeast, and strong upper level divergence in the right entrance region of the jet will support the development of surface low pressure over the Central Gulf Coast. As the trough and jet progress eastward, low pressure will move to the northeast and pass just north of our area through Central Georgia and bring a trailing cold front across the area Thursday Night into early Friday. As the low approaches, a warm front will lift across the area before sunrise on Thursday and shower chances will increase from the northwest throughout the day. Breezy southerly flow 10-15 kts on Thursday will increase temperatures above normal into the 70s and 80s, and southwesterly upper level winds will increase moisture ahead of the approaching system. Dewpoint temperatures will surge into the mid-to-upper 60s Thursday afternoon, which will increase surface based instability. MLCAPE 500-1,000 J/kg and 35-45 kts of 0-6 km Bulk shear will support the development of strong storms ahead of the cold front in the warm sector during the afternoon and early evening hours. As the cold front passes, surface instability will be reduced due to the lack of daytime heating, but 0-6 km Bulk shear will increase to 50-60 kts with a strong low level jet overhead. A strong line of potentially severe thunderstorms will move through with the front with the greatest chances of severe storms focused in western SE GA and the Suwannee Valley. Surface based instability will continue to decrease as the line progresses through the area to the southeast overnight, but these storms are likely to produce damaging wind gusts and potentially isolated tornadoes through late Thursday. .LONG TERM...[Friday through Wednesday]...Friday, rain chances will continue through the morning hours as the cold front pushes out of the area, but we will dry out in the afternoon and evening as high pressure builds to the west northwest. Northwesterly flow behind the cold front will cool temperatures on Friday with highs in the 50s and lowers 60s in SE GA and 60s and lower 70s in NE FL. Saturday and Sunday, high pressure will build further to the northwest over the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys then shift to our north over the mid-Atlantic region. Temperatures will remain fairly cool on Saturday with highs in the low-to-mid 50s in SE GA and upper 50s and lower 60s in NE FL, then return to near seasonable values Sunday with highs in the lower 60s in SE GA and mid-to-upper 60s in NE FL. Monday through Wednesday, high pressure will shift offshore into the North Atlantic as the next storm system tracks towards the Great Lakes region. This system will bring a relatively weak cold front across our area Monday Night into early Tuesday morning with scatters showers possible. Dry conditions will return behind the front as high pressure builds again Tuesday Night and Wednesday. Temperatures Monday through Wednesday will be slightly above average in the 60s and lower 70s. .MARINE...Low pressure forming in the western Gulf will track nw of the area through Thursday which will bring a warm front north across the waters tonight. Areas of rain will develop this afternoon with potential for sea fog developing late tonight and Thursday morning. A cold front will approach the waters Thursday night bringing widespread showers and possibly strong thunderstorms. The front will push through early Friday morning with high pressure building in from the northwest. Exercise caution conditions are likely Thursday into Saturday morning with near advisory conditions offshore. Rip Currents: Moderate Risk Today and Thursday. .HYDROLOGY... Minor flooding continues along portions of the Santa Fe, St. Marys, Satilla and Altamaha Rivers.
