Light snow will continue across portions of northern Indiana into
northwestern Ohio into this evening. A few locations could see an
additional dusting to locally an inch or 2 by later this evening.
As a result, the Winter Storm Warning has been cancelled.

Several inches of accumulating snow will overspread the area
Saturday evening, becoming heavy at times. The snow will gradually
taper off during the day Sunday. Travel will be impacted Saturday
night into Sunday.

.SHORT TERM...(Today and Tonight)
Issued at 321 AM EST Sat Jan 30 2021

Potent winter storm over Intermountain West with notable Pacific
moisture draw from southern Baja into Plains per water vapor
imagery this morning. Low level Gulf feed already established with
surface isodrosothermal ridge northeast Texas to eastern Kansas.
Northward moisture flux convergence to ramp considerably as
surface reflection deepens through Oklahoma panhandle later today.
Strong/deep I290/295K lift with 4 g/kg mixing ratios to afford
onslaught at start of event with snowfall rates expected to
quickly increase to 1-1.5 inches per hour along leading edge of
warm advection leaf to pivot northeast through cWA. These snowfall
rates are in line with HREF ensemble mean and appear reasonable
given overall system moisture/strength. Additionally
considerations for stronger mesoscale banding remains with 2
periods overnight into Sunday morning of negative EPV above
focused FGEN maxima within conditional instability pockets.
Initial FGEN focus is in elevated mid levels at onset, the second
lower in troposphere around 09-15 UTC Sunday. Orphaned 7H
circulation lags through central Indiana on Sunday during energy
transfer to coastal cyclogenesis. This should enhance/broaden
snowfall swath through CWA.

Some negatives exist as the trowal appears held back across northern
Illinois/far western CWA, issue of compaction on Sunday notable in
Cobb model average plumes, plus less than favorable saturation with
respect to ice in a relatively thin DGZ all suggest issues that
would preclude an overperforming event. In collaboration with WPC
and surrounding offices have hoisted winter storm warning
along/south of US 30 corridor with advisory to north. Notable
clustering of ECMWF EPS with 7 inch mean amounts along U.S. corridor
KASW/KFWA. While some concern for rain/sleet mix or at least period
of very low SLR over far southern border CWA, still enough ensemble
agreement on significant snow amounts/and concern that any warm
layer would be of insufficient depth/magnitude given strength of
anticipated dynamic cooling.

.LONG TERM...(Sunday through Friday)

Quieter weather pattern for much of next week with ridging
surface/aloft persisting over CWA as coastal cyclone slowly works
northward. Emerging split flow as next northern stream system
peels through Upper Great Lakes Thursday/Friday timeframe.
Marginally warm thermal profiles portends of mix rain/snow at this
time. Lack of significant moisture to maintain chance mention at
this time. Focus then shifts to strong southern stream system and
while NBM appears too low with respect to PoPs on Day 7, will
await look at 12 UTC guidance for further direction.

.AVIATION...(For the 06Z TAFS through 06Z Saturday Night)

VFR conditions will continue through Saturday as the remnant dry air
behind the surface high pressure and mid level ridging will need to
be overcome. It will take until after 00z to get into the lowered
flight conditions likely reaching IFR around 01z and potentially
lower shortly thereafter from the intensity of the snow as well as
low level saturation. Wind gusts are also expected to pick up to
between 20 and 30 kts as the low level jet works in ahead of the
main surface low. This would allude to a time period where LLWS
becomes an issue after 00z at SBN and around 05 or 06z at FWA.
