.SYNOPSIS...
Temperatures will remain well above normal through this
weekend. Afternoon showers and thunderstorms are possible across
the Sierra Nevada Friday through Monday. A cooling and drying
trend will take place after Monday and near normal temperatures
are forecast by the middle of next week.

.DISCUSSION...
A few afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms occurred in
the Sierra yesterday, and we are expecting the same for the next
few days. We are not expecting any flooding concerns since the
storms have been short lived. Lightning and gusty winds are
possible with the storms. Widespread triple digits were observed
yesterday across the SJV and Kern county desert. We are expecting
more of the same, and even hotter this weekend. We currently have
an excessive heat watch out for the desert area from Saturday
through Monday evening. We will be looking at possible heat
statements for the weekend for the SJV based on new data.

High pressure center moving into the Great Basin will cause
temperatures to continue to rise to critical levels across the
region in the lower elevations through Monday. Models are
consistent with bringing a trough through the region Tuesday that
will drop regional temperatures several degrees by Wednesday and
keep most of the lower elevations below the century mark, however
temperatures will slowly start rising again above triple digits
on Thursday and continue into Friday.

.AVIATION...
In the Sierra Nevada, areas of MVFR and local mountain obscuring
IFR in showers and isolated thunderstorms after 18Z Fri.
Elsewhere, VFR conditions will prevail over the Central CA
Interior for at least the next 24 hours.

.AIR QUALITY ISSUES...
On Friday August 13 2021... Unhealthy for sensitive groups in
Fresno... Kern and Tulare Counties and Sequoia National Park and
Forest.
