VFR conditions at IAH and southward. Mix of MVFR and VFR cigs
north of IAH today as wrap around clouds from the departed low
continue to move across the northern portions of the CWA. W-NW
winds will relax to around 10 KTS as high pressure builds across

Saturday morning with mid level clouds moving overhead as a result

SHORT TERM [Today through Saturday]...
Welcome 2021!! The much awaited year will start of dry and cool as
high pressure builds in from the west...a perfect set up to enjoy
New Years Day with a hot cup of chocolate.
West to northwest winds will gradually relax throughout the day
today and remain light Saturday as the high pressure settles
across the region. Drier and cooler air mass will keep high
temperatures generally in the 50s today and Saturday with lows
dipping into the mid 30s to low 40s at night. 24
LONG TERM [Saturday Night through Friday]...
The remainder of the weekend will continue to be cool and dry,
and this pattern will persist into the start of the upcoming
week with weak high pressures generally in control across the
area. The next shortwave and associated cold front will be coming
out of the Rockies as we head on into the Tuesday/Wednesday time
period. Moisture will be limited until we get into the Tuesday
night but more likely Wednesday time period when the next cold
front will move across the area. Expecting mainly showers to
develop along and ahead of this front with the best chances
currently setting up for Wednesday. After the front moves on
through, a reinforcing cool and dry weather pattern looks to
set up for the remainder of the week. 42
CLIMATE...
Houston Hobby Airport recorded 1.76 inches of rain yesterday
(December 31st), and this set a new record for the date. The
previous record was 1.30 inches set in 1941.
Three of Hobby's wettest days of 2020 occurred in December
(2.65 inches on the 12th, 1.76 inches on the 31st and 1.65
inches on the 19th). Their wettest day of 2020 was 7.32 inches
on September 22nd.
Hobby's rainfall total of 8.04 inches in December 2020 ranks
as their 5th wettest December on record (1st place is 9.80
inches set in 1949). 42

Winds and seas will gradually subside throughout the day today as
high pressure builds across the region from the west. A Low Water
Advisory is in effect through 6 PM CST today for the Bays. A light
to at times moderate onshore flow should return to the area at
the end of the weekend or the start of next week and continue
through mid week. The next cold front is expected to move through
the region Wednesday, resulting in an increase in showers and
thunderstorms along with moderate to strong gusty winds and
