.SYNOPSIS...
Low pressure will gradually exit through the Canadian Maritimes
today, but upper level low pressure will continue to provide for
accumulating snow showers to the mountains. A weak system
crosses the region on Monday with another weak system passing
through on Tuesday night and Wednesday.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TODAY/...
Upper level low pressure will continue to pivot northeastward
across our forecast area this morning. As of 07z radar returns
have increased fairly markedly across central and northern zones
with light rain at lower levels and snow at higher elevations.
Mountain snows will continue through this morning, with prime
west-facing slopes picking up another 3 to 6 inches of snow
today. Will drop the expiring winter storm warning with this
package update but hoist a winter weather advisory for the
mountains through noon today. Lower elevations will see little
in the way of accums, but notches and higher elevations will see
periods of heavy snow this morning, with occasional 1/4 mile S+
expected. Mountain roads will be very slippery.

Otherwise, downwind of the mountains, some flurries and
sprinkles are expected along with varying amounts of clouds
today. Temperatures outside of the mountains should be well
above normal today, with downsloping winds aiding temperatures
to rise up to the mid 40s.

Winds will be gusty as well, with frequent gusts around 30 MPH
likely.

.SHORT TERM /TONIGHT THROUGH 6 PM MONDAY/...
A weak short wave trough passes across the forecast area tonight
into Monday. Therefore, clouds will be prevalent along with
scattered snow showers in the mountains. Conditions should
improve Monday afternoon with the passage of the short wave
trough. Highs Monday will be well above normal once again with
the absence of arctic air continuing.

.LONG TERM /MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY/...
Several fast moving shortwaves will race across the northern tier of
the eastern CONUS primarily bringing periods of more clouds than
sun. There will be low chances for snow showers with these passing
disturbances but opportunities for accumulating will be limited
through next week. Temperatures will oscillate either side of
normal with each passing wave with Wednesday night looking to be
the coldest as high pressure briefly crests over the area.

We will be between passing shortwaves Tuesday with partly cloudy
skies and temperatures ranging from the teen north to low 30s
south. The next short wave crosses Tuesday night into Wednesday
for an increase in cloud cover and low chances for a snow
shower. High pressure crosses the area Wednesday night allowing
for more optimal radiational cooling leading to lows dropping
below zero in the north and lows in the single digits to near 10
degrees south. The next set of short waves cross the area
Thursday into Friday night with better chances for widespread
snow shower activity although accumulations look to be limited
to where snow showers are more persistent in the mountains.

.AVIATION /07Z SUNDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
Short Term...MVFR to IFR conditions will continue in the
mountains today in snow showers. Downwind of the mountains, we
expect VFR conditions with a few areas of MVFR cigs from time
to time. Any fog will dissipate early this morning. Westerly
wind gusts of 25 to 30 kts are expected today and will diminish
tonight. Areas of MVFR cigs are expected late tonight and Monday
morning as a weak disturbance moves through.

Long Term...Mainly VFR through next week. Fast moving
disturbances may bring periods of MVFR in lower cigs and -SHSN
Tuesday night into Wednesday and again Thursday into Friday.

.MARINE...
Short Term...An offshore gale returns this morning as low
pressure gradually moves away from the forecast area. All marine
zones except Casco bay continue with the gale warning through
about midnight. Winds and seas will then diminish late tonight
and Monday but remain at SCA thresholds.

Long Term...SCA conditions likely Monday night will diminish
Tuesday. Another round of SCA conditions Wednesday as NW winds
pick up behind a passing disturbance with SCA conditions
subsiding by Thursday morning.

...An area of snow showers possibly mixed with rain will affect
western Kennebec...east central Oxford...central
Androscoggin...southwestern Somerset and Franklin Counties...

At 411 AM EST...An area of snow showers was along a line extending
from Rangeley to near Rumford to near Lewiston...and moving
northeast AT 15 MPH.

Locations impacted include...
Lewiston, Augusta, Farmington, Gardiner, Rangeley, Rumford, Turner,
Jay, Litchfield, Belgrade, Livermore Falls, Farmingdale, Manchester,
Dixfield, Hallowell, Kingfield, Canton, Carrabassett Valley, Winthrop
and Wilton.

This includes Interstate 95 between mile markers 102 and 119.

This also includes...
  Saddleback Mountain, Sugarloaf Mountain, Crocker Mountain, The
Bigelows, and West Carry Pond.

  * Up to an inch of snow is possible through 6 am and may cause
slippery spots where temperatures fall to around the freezing mark.
The snow will move out early this morning.
