.SYNOPSIS...
Cold temperatures tonight will give way to dry weather on
Wednesday as high pressure moves in. The next chance of
precipitation, some of it wintry, will arrive with a warm front
Wednesday night into Thursday. A cold front will cross the
region Thursday night allowing for a drier day on Friday. Low
pressure may bring snow this weekend.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM THIS MORNING/...
1020 PM Update... Refreshed temperatures through the overnight
according to latest MOS guidance. Cirrus is filling in across
southern areas, but remains fairly thin.

620 PM Update... Only minor adjustments to the forecast to
account for latest trends... mainly to smooth T/Td trends this
evening. The forecast is well on track otherwise with high
cirrus starting to come in from the south and west.

Previously...
Strong surface high pressure will move in from the northwest
tonight allowing for diminishing winds. Radiational cooling
conditions will be quite good, and have decided to side with the
colder MOS guidance for mins tonight. Some cirrus is likely to
enter the picture from time to time overnight as high level WAA
advection begins to take place. This may affect the temperatures
in some locations depending on how thick the cloud cover is.
Otherwise, dry weather is expected.

.SHORT TERM /6 AM THIS MORNING THROUGH 6 PM THURSDAY/...
High pressure will traverse the forecast area from west to east
during the day on Wednesday. This will make for a fair weather
day with increasing clouds during the afternoon as a warm front
sharpens up to our southwest. The forecast area should remain
dry until at least sunset. Temperatures will remain above
normal.

.LONG TERM /THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY/...
Overview: Strong high pressure will drift offshore on Wednesday
night as a developing  area of low pressure to our west sends a warm
front northward into our area late Wednesday night and Thursday
morning. All precipitation types will be possible across interior
locations but closer to the coast mostly if not all rain is
expected. Precipitation will end by late Thursday afternoon but
a few lingering showers of rain and snow may persist across the
mountains. Drier and breezy conditions are then expected on
Friday behind a cold front. Another storm system may bring a
period of snow to the region on Saturday and Saturday night,
especially across southern locations. A cooler and more active
pattern is then likely through the beginning of next week.

Impacts: Snow will gradually turn to rain late Wednesday night
through early Thursday morning across northern areas. During
this changeover, a brief period of mixed wintry precipitation is
possible, which may result in locally slippery travel
conditions for the Thursday morning commute.

Forecast Details:  Strong high pressure will shift offshore of New
England on Wednesday night as a deepening area of low pressure moves
across the upper Great Lakes and southern Canada. This low pressure
system will send a warm front northward through New England on
Wednesday night through Thursday morning. Precipitation will
begin to overspread the region from west to east during the
evening and overnight hours before exiting the region by late
afternoon. There will be a very brief window during the evening
and early overnight hours where 850 mb temperatures will support
snow but this will be quickly eroded as increasingly strong WAA
overtakes the area. Ensemble and deterministic guidance shows
very light QPF during this window (generally less than two
tenths of an inch) and this combined with SLRs of less than 10:1
will generally limit snow amounts to an inch or less, mainly
across the north. Closer to the coast, surface temperatures will
still be above freezing and therefore even if some flakes mix
in at the onset, it will likely not accumulate. Warmer air will
continue to move in during the remainder of the overnight hours,
which will transition any snow over to rain from south to
north. Across inland locations where temperatures do manage to
fall to at or below freezing, a period of mixed wintry
precipitation will be possible as a weak CAD situation sets up.
Eventually all areas will transition to plain rain showers later
Thursday morning before ending from west to east as the warm
front pushes north and east of the region.

Behind the front, well above average high temperatures are expected
on Thursday afternoon with highs ranging from the lower to middle
40s north to the middle 50s in southern NH and extreme southwestern
ME. A few peaks of sunshine will be possible, especially across
western locations and should this occur then a few spots may
make a run for the 60 degree mark. Other than a stray rain or
snow shower across the north, quiet conditions are expected on
Thursday night as low temperatures only fall into the 30s to
lower 40s from north to south. A cold front will cross through
on Thursday night, which will yield a breezy but dry day on
Friday with highs once again well above average into the 40s
and 50s for most locations. Steepening lapse rates during the
afternoon should allow for good mixing and result in northwest
wind gusts up to between 20-30 mph at times, especially across
the north. Winds will diminish some on Friday night but likely
remain elevated enough to prevent full decoupling to occur. Low
temperatures will range from the 20s to 30s from north to south.

Our attention will then turn towards a nearly stationary frontal
boundary to our south. Forecast guidance continues to show the
potential for an area of low pressure to form and then move
along this boundary on Saturday night and Sunday. There remains
considerable uncertainty to how far north the precipitation
shield will extend with this system, but deterministic and
ensemble guidance continues to show the potential for some
accumulating snow across the region, especially in southern
locations. Temperature profiles currently support a mostly snow
scenario but there could be some mixing with rain along the
coast during the afternoon hours. Cool high pressure will then
bring tranquil weather for Monday before another potential
system brings increased chances for either rain or snow to the
region on Monday night and Tuesday.

.AVIATION /06Z WEDNESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...
Short Term...VFR cirrus present in some southern terminals, with
winds light and variable thanks to high pressure over the area.
This will slide offshore later today and a strengthening
southerly flow will develop. Moisture will overrun the area
tonight, starting with light snow. Look for a transition over to
rain for most terminals around 06-08Z, but for the sites in
higher terrain the transition will be later and could be
accompanied by a brief period freezing rain or sleet. This
occurrence would be denoted with the next TAF package at 12Z.
In addition to the precip type hazard, there will be a concern
for LLWS above the inversion, occurring most notably around 12Z.

Long Term...Conditions will improve to VFR/MVFR for Thursday
afternoon through Friday. Another system may bring a period of
snow on Saturday night and Sunday with additional flight
restrictions.

.MARINE...
Short Term...High pressure moving in tonight will result in
diminishing winds. The small craft advisory is due to expire at
7 pm this evening. Winds will remain light overnight then pick
up from the south Wednesday afternoon. Seas remain rather
tranquil.

Long Term...SCA conditions likely late Wednesday night through
Friday as a series of fronts cross over the waters bringing
increased winds and seas.
