.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure will build east across southern Canada which will
result in a dry and cold weekend. An area of low pressure will
redevelop along the Mid Atlantic Coast early next week and move
to the east northeast. It will pass offshore late Monday Night
through Wednesday of next week with a period of snow likely over
the region.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
Upper level low and associated SFC trough continue to pull away
from our region resulting in a return to sunshine for most folks
as of this Friday afternoon. The clearing trend will continue
tonight except for perhaps portions of the White Mountains. The
main theme however will be the cold temperatures as lows dip
into the single numbers above and below zero. Winds will be
lighter tonight, relegating -20F or lower wind chills to the
higher elevations.

.SHORT TERM /SATURDAY AND SATURDAY NIGHT/...
Dry and cold continues to be the theme. Highs are only expected
to reach the teens on Saturday despite sunshine. Winds will be
much lighter though, which will make it seem warmer. The pressure
gradient will loosen further Saturday night which should foster
good radiational cooling that should allow most locations to go
below zero.

.LONG TERM /SUNDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
At the start of the period high pressure over eastern Canada
will result in a cold start to the day on Sunday. The high will
retreat north and east during the day allowing for the start of
a moderating temperature trend. Low pressure over the Ohio
Valley is expected to redevelop off the Delmarva Peninsula
Sunday Night and Monday. During this time the area will be in
between the low to the south and high to our north...resulting
an a continuation of dry conditions.

Monday Night and Tuesday the GFS and ECMWF agree in keeping a slow
moving low south of the area moving east northeast. An
increasing NE wind flow should lead to the development of snow
especially along coastal areas Monday Night and Tuesday. With
the NE flow continuing Tuesday Night would expect the snow
threat to continue Tuesday Night before dissipating early on
Wednesday. While this is a prolonged potential event, the GFS
and ECMWF do keep the heaviest precipitation south and east of
the region. The 12z GFS has backed off somewhat on the strength
of the low and has decreased overall precipitation amounts...now
ranging from about a third of an inch along the coast to less
than a tenth of an inch over the mountains. The 00z and new 12z
ECMWF QPF were consistent with each other...amounts range from
around an inch along the immediate coast to a quarter inch over
the mountains. The NBM is squarely in the middle having about
half an inch along the coast. With seas building on a long
duration NE flow there will be some risk of coastal issues at
the time of high tide Tuesday.

Behind the departing low Wednesday through Friday there is not much
cold air and temperatures will continue to moderate. By Friday
a warm front associated with low pressure over the northern
Great Lakes will approach resulting in rain and mixed
precipitation over the region.

.AVIATION /19Z FRIDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
Short Term...VFR conditions are expected throughout the area
tonight through Saturday night with NW winds gradually
diminishing.

Long Term...VFR conditions Sunday and Monday. Areas of IFR develop
Monday night and last into Tuesday Night as low pressure
results in gusty winds and periods of snow Monday
night...Tuesday and Tuesday Night. Heaviest precipitation
expected along the immediate coast.

.MARINE...
Short Term...Gales should diminish to SCA conditions during the
evening hours. SCA conditions to continue into Saturday night.

Long Term...
Sunday: Conditions below SCA / Monday: SCA conditions develop
on increasing NE winds / Tuesday: Strong SCA to low GLW
conditions expected resulting from a gusty long duration NE
wind. / Wednesday: SCA condition expected as wind and seas
slowly start to diminish and wind direction turns offshore.

At 955 AM EST...An area of heavy snow showers was along a line
extending from near Thorndike to near Rockland to 17 miles southwest
of Stonington...and moving southwest AT 25 MPH.

Locations impacted include...
Augusta, Rockland, Camden, Damariscotta, Lincolnville, Thorndike,
China, Clinton, Bristol, Liberty, Bremen, Palermo, Unity, Thomaston,
Rockport, Knox, Benton, Chelsea, Jefferson and Albion.

This includes Interstate 95 between mile markers 112 and 117.

This also includes...
  Pemaquid Beach and Birch Point Beach State Park.
  Burnt Island, Metinic Island, Friendship Long Island, Cranberry
Island, and Otter Island.

  * Visibilities will drop quickly to less than a half mile in this
area of heavy snow showers as it passes through. A quick inch of
snow will be possible.

Travel is not advised during these heavy snow showers. Rapid
visibility reduction and potentially icy roads are likely to lead to
accidents. Consider delaying travel until the snow showers pass your
location. If traveling pull off to a safe location.

extending from 7 miles northeast of Topsham to 11 miles south of
Georgetown...and moving southwest AT 25 MPH.

Locations impacted include...
Portland, Brunswick, Bath, Topsham, Cumberland, Falmouth, Freeport,
Georgetown, Woolwich, Yarmouth, Harpswell, Bowdoinham, Arowsic,
Chebeague Island, West Bath, Phippsburg and Southport.

This includes Interstate 295 between mile markers 9 and 21.

  Reid State Park and Popham Beach State Park.
