.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure building over the East Coast and western Atlantic
will allow heat and humidity to continue to build over the East
Coast into the early part of the coming work week. Heat index
values may approach 100 degrees for some locations on Monday.
This oppressive airmass may hang around the region into the
middle of the week with chances for showers and storms each day,
especially over the mountains. The pattern shows promise of
bringing cooler temperatures by the end of the week.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/...
Impacts...Heat indices above 95 degrees expected this afternoon
and evening for southern NH.

11 AM...Tds are running a little above morning guidance and thus
producing a higher heat index. Models do trend a bit a bit
downward in Td during then hottest part of this afternoon, so
will not expand heat adv, but will likely see oppressive conds
in inland areas of SW ME as well if not quite reaching Heat
index of 95.

625am Update...Made adjustments to temperatures over the next
couple of hours to account for the latest observations. Also
further scaled back PoPs through this evening as the latest
guidance continues to keep any precipitation well to our north
today. No other changes at this time.

Previously...

Rather quiet this morning as showers pass to our north and west.
Skies remain mostly cloudy and it has been a mild night with current
temperatures in the mid 60s to mid 70s.

Primary story today is the beginning of a stretch of very warm
temperatures that looks to extend through Tuesday. Skies will
gradually become partly cloudy as the day progresses, allowing the
sunshine to combine with the warm air mass now in place for what
will be a very warm day. All areas south and east of the mountains
will rise into the upper 80s to lower 90s this afternoon. In
combination with dew points in the mid 60s to near 70, heat indices
will rise into the lower to mid 90s throughout much of the region.
Heat indices above 95 degrees look to remain confined to those
counties within the already issued heat advisory...and at this time,
any expansion of the heat advisory does not look necessary.

In addition to the heat, there is a slight chance for showers and
thunderstorms right along the international border...but otherwise,
no precipitation is expected today.

.SHORT TERM /6 PM THIS EVENING THROUGH 6 PM MONDAY/...
Impacts...A more widespread heat advisory will be needed for Monday
as highs climb into the mid to upper 90s with heat indices ranging
from 95 to 100. Showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon may
produce heavy rainfall and gusty winds.

Expecting a quiet but mild night tonight with perhaps a stray shower
near the international border and lows remaining in the upper 60s to
lower 70s for much of the region.

Monday, as it has for a few days now, looks to be the hottest day of
this stretch of very warm temperatures as an upper level ridge peaks
in strength during the day over New England. Morning commute
temperatures in the upper 70s and lower 80s will quickly rise into
the lower to mid 90s by the afternoon. With dew points in the upper
60s and possibly lower 70s, heat indices will rise into the 95 to
100 degree range for much of the region in the afternoon and early
evening. Heat advisory will likely be needed for all zones south and
east of the mountains, but will not issue until the one for today
expires this evening.

As far as any possible precipitation...a weak surface low is
expected to pass from southern Quebec into northern Maine over
the course of the day, pushing a weak cold front through the
region. The upper ridge will act as a suppressor, but there
should be enough forcing to allow showers and thunderstorms to
develop during the afternoon and evening as the weak front
passes through. SPC has even placed a portion of the region in
a marginal risk for severe weather. With PWATs well above 1.5
inches and forecast soundings supportive for downbursts, have
kept heavy rainfall wording and added gusty wind wording to the
forecast.

.LONG TERM /MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY/...
Any isolated to widely sct showers and thunderstorms will wane
Monday evening with the loss of diurnal heating. Monday night
with will feature fair weather but low temperatures will be well
above normal.

Little in the way of forcing for ascent is foreseen for Tuesday,
especially with SFC trough mainly to our east and south. There
could be a couple of thunderstorms, and if there are they would
likely be over southern NH where slightly better SFC convergence
will be found. With low level winds turning W to possibly WNW on
Tuesday, dewpoint values will likely be lower than what we'll
see on Monday. Therefore, if we need another heat advisory it
would probably be in a relatively small area of southern NH.

Heights fall as the center of mid level high pressure moves
farther away from the forecast area Mid to late week. This will
allow for gradually decreasing temperatures and increasing
chances for showers and thunderstorms, especially Thursday
through Saturday when some more robust but slow-moving larger
scale ascent arrives.

.AVIATION /15Z SUNDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
Short Term...Mostly VFR conditions at the moment, except for
portions of southern NH where an MVFR cloud deck has lingered.
Still expecting some additional MVFR restrictions later this
morning, mainly for the southern and coastal terminals, and RKD
may again find itself in IFR/LIFR for much of the day.
Conditions improve this afternoon. Southwesterly winds will be
gusty well into the evening. Winds diminish tonight but pick up
again on Monday out of the west.

Long Term...Mainly VFR expected Monday night through Thursday
outside of possible widely sct showers and thunderstorms during
the afternoon hours. It looks like low clouds and fog will for
the most part stay offshore this period, but can't rule it out
on the immediate coast at night, especially RKD.

.MARINE...
Short Term...Have issued a SCA for all waters that is in effect
through tonight. Seas are expected to build as the day progresses
to 5 ft. Winds will likely top out around 25 kts, but the outer
waters could see a few gusts closer to 30 kt. Marginal SCA
conditions are possible on Monday, but winds and seas both look
to diminish as the day progresses.

Long Term...Bermuda high will gradually sink southward and away
from our region Tuesday through Thursday as a trough of low
pressure approaches from the northwest. Overall, conditions are
expected to be below SCA thresholds Monday night through the end
of the week although some fog and an occasional thunderstorm
could affect the waters through the period.
