The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for...
  Northwestern Greenville County in upstate South Carolina...
  Pickens County in upstate South Carolina...

* Until 600 PM EDT.

* At 203 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain producing 
  tropical thunderstorms
  continuinh to develop and move north across the warned area.  As 
  much as 3 or 4 inches of rain may accumulate this afternoon.  
  There is also an increasing chance of mud or rockslides for those 
  locations along and north of Highway 11 today.


  HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

  SOURCE...Radar.

  IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban
           areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as
           other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
  Easley, Clemson, Pickens, Central, Liberty, Norris, Six Mile, 
  Table Rock State Park, Keowee Toxaway State Park, Jocassee Gorges, 
  Lake Keowee, Caesars Head State Park, Lake Jocassee, Jones Gap 
  State Park, Lake Hartwell, Sunset, Pumpkintown, Nine Times, 
  Dacusville and Rocky Bottom.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Heavy rain is increasing the risk of landslides, especially in areas 
where slides have occurred in the past. Be especially alert if you 
are near a stream, especially at the base of a mountain or in a 
cove. Watch for loose-moving soil and rocks or a sudden increase in 
streamflow. Leave the area quickly if this is observed. When driving 
along roads where the terrain is steep or rocky, watch and listen 
for falling rocks, mud, trees and other debris.

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood 
deaths occur in vehicles.
