...FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR THE PINE GULCH FIRE BURN AREA REMAINS IN 
EFFECT UNTIL 5 PM MDT THIS AFTERNOON FOR SOUTHWESTERN GARFIELD 
COUNTY...

At 400 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy 
rain over the Pine Gulch Fire Burn Area. Between 0.2 and 0.5 inches 
of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 0.2 to 0.5 
inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or 
expected to begin shortly.

Excessive rainfall over the burn scar will result in debris flow 
moving through portions of the Pine Gulch Burn area. The debris flow 
can consist of rock, mud, vegetation and other loose materials.

HAZARD...Thunderstorms producing flash flooding in and around the
         Pine Gulch Fire Burn Area.

Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
  mainly rural areas of Southwestern Garfield County

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Heavy rainfall will cause extensive and severe flash flooding of 
creeks...streams...and ditches in the Pine Gulch Fire Burn Area. 
Severe debris flows can also be anticipated across roads. Roads and 
driveways may be washed away in places. If you encounter flood 
waters...climb to safety.

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood 
deaths occur in vehicles.

.SHORT TERM...(Tonight through Tuesday night)
Issued at 151 PM MDT Mon Jul 5 2021

Early afternoon observations show an upper level shortwave trough
approaching western WY and northeast UT while a shortwave ridge is
near the CO Divide. Precipitable water values over western CO are
near 0.80 inch with a plume of 0.90-1.00 inch advecting eastward
from eastern UT. Convection initiated by midday over the Divide
and highest ridges farther west thanks to MUCAPES 500-1000 J/kg
and the available moderate moisture. We are closely monitoring
recent burn scars for the possibilty of flash flood
watches/warings. Steering flow is becoming more southwesterly as
the upper level trough approaches, and this flow pattern has yet
to produce a debris flow off the Grizzly Creek burn scar, and
nothing has yet to develop immediately upstream of the scar today,
so we are holding off on a watch for now.

The shortwave trough will move east tonight with its axis finally
southeast of the area by mid morning Tuesday. The associated weak
dynamics will likley keep isolated to scattered shower activity
going a little later through the night for western CO. The
remainder of Tuesday will be under northwest flow aloft and rising
heights. Precipitable water decreases slightly, but will still
have enough to see isolated to scattered convection by afternoon
over the highest ridges with greatest coverage over the Divide.

.LONG TERM...(Wednesday through Monday)

The main concern in this long term period is the potential for
heat-related impacts and the return of critical fire conditions.
Model ensemble guidance agrees on a building upper level ridge
over the Great Basin. The magnitude as currently forecast does not
reach the values of the last extreme heat event of a couple weeks
ago. The recent max temp guidance from various ensemble model
output has trended slightly lower today for the end of the week.
Nevertheless, it does appear max temperatures will be into the
lower 100s for our lower valleys Wednesday through Friday with
overnight lows staying in the 70s. We will continue to monitor the
forecast for the possibility of Heat Advisories for the Grand
Valley and valleys of eastern UT during this period.

In terms of rain chances, precipitable water will remain in the
0.6 to 0.8 inch range until possibly Friday when a shortwave
trough rides over the ridge and ushers in some drier air.
Subsidence on the eastern periphery of the strong upper level
ridge will act to suppress instability. So, expect only low end
chances of showers/storms over the higher terrain each day through
the end of the week.

Winds Thursday afternoon across northeast UT/northern CO and then
farther south across western CO Friday...ahead of aforementioned
shortwave look to pick up enough to raise concern for critical
fire weather conditions. If this trend holds, we will likley need
to issue a Fire Weather Watch at some point tomorrow for the end
of the week.

A surge of moisture was spreading north and eastward across
eastern Utah and northwest Colorado this morning. Within that
river of moisture there were some light showers and few storm
cells developing west of the Green River. A weak disturbance moves
over the area during peak heating this afternoon which is
expected to enhance and expand shower and thunderstorm activity
across eastern Utah and western Colorado with mountains favored,
as usual. Precipitation chances thus far a bit too low to include
more than storms in the vicinity at this point, but will keep an
eye out for updates as cells develop in the hours ahead. Moisture
profile indicated outflow winds of 30 to 35 mph possible with
stronger cells. Expect unsettled weather to continue well into
the evening before diminishing overnight.

Isolated to scattered thunderstorms will be possible each
afternoon and evening for much of next week. Coverage will vary
by day.

miles north of Fruita, or 30 miles north of Grand Junction. This
storm was nearly stationary.

Pea size  hail will be possible with this storm.

This storm will remain over mainly rural areas of southwestern
Garfield County.

This includes Colorado 139 near mile marker 24.

This storm was nearly stationary.
