.DISCUSSION...(Today through Wednesday)
Issued at 357 AM CST Thu Feb 11 2021

Persistent cloud cover has been present on satellite most of the
night across areas primarily north of interstate 80. This has
resulted in somewhat elevated temperatures across our north so far
this morning...along with a bit of light snow being reported at
Ord the past few hours.

For today...expect an upper level jet streak in progressive
northwesterly flow to bring the chance for some additional light
snow/flurries primarily north of interstate 80. While significant
accumulations are not expected, isolated spots could see upwards
of an inch of new snow by the evening hours. South of interstate
80, a mix of sun and clouds and dry weather is anticipated for
today.

For Friday...things get a bit more interesting as a weak upper
level wave moving out of the Rockies brings more widespread
snowfall to the local area. While the focus of the heaviest
snowfall with this system will again be focused north of
interstate 80...all areas should see some light snowfall
accumulation...and decided to issue a winter weather advisory
across our extreme north where 3 to 4 inches of new...light and
fluffy snow...will be possible over the course of the day.

A brief break in weather is then expected for Saturday...although
at least variably cloudy skies and some light flurries will be
possible. A better shot for additional snowfall will then come
late Saturday night and into Sunday...when an upper level low
organizes across the four corners region...and another disturbance
moves out of the Rockies and crosses the plains. The focus of
this system looks to be further south...with north central Kansas
expected to see the higher totals this second go round

Behind this second system...temperatures really tank late in the
weekend...with extremely dangerous wind chills and potentially
record cold temperatures expected by Monday morning. The current
forecast for the low Monday morning in Hastings is -17, which
would shatter the previous record of -12 set back in 1921. With
even just light wind speeds...wind chills to start the work week
will likely dip below minus 30 degrees to start the day Monday.

Thereafter...temperatures will slowly moderate through the middle
of the week, but remain well below normal as the next low pressure
system is expected to slide across the southern plains leaving the
local area dry Tuesday and Wednesday.

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for south central Nebraska and
portions of north central Kansas.

.DAY ONE...Today and Tonight.

Light snow will be possible primarily north of Highway 92 through
the afternoon and evening hours...with total accumulations
expected to be generally less than one inch. In addition...wind
chills between 10 and 20 degrees below zero will continue through
the morning hours...and return again during the evening and
overnight hours tonight.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Friday through Wednesday.

Dangerously cold temperatures and multiple chances for
accumulating snow are expected through the upcoming weekend.

For Friday...light snowfall is expected to impact the entire
forecast area...with total accumulations of 2 to 4 inches across
south central Nebraska...and 1 to 2 inches across portions of
north central Kansas. Pockets of locally higher amounts are
possible, and should be focused primarily north of interstate 80.

For Saturday night and Sunday...another round of light snow is
forecast to impact much of the local area...with the heaviest
totals this time focused across portions of north central Kansas.

In addition to the potential for snow...dangerously cold wind
chills of -15 to -25 degrees will be possible Friday...dropping to
as low as -25 to -35 degrees between Saturday night and Tuesday
morning. A slight improvement in both temperatures and wind chill
values is possible for the latter half of next week.
