AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION National Weather Service Hastings NE 119 AM CDT Mon Jul 26 2021 ...Aviation Update... .DISCUSSION...(This evening through Sunday) Issued at 325 PM CDT Sun Jul 25 2021 Convection has finally started to weaken this afternoon and moved out of the area that had the most precipitation over night and into this morning. There are a few thunderstorms that continue in the southwest portion of the forecast area this afternoon. Clouds have kept temperatures from warming as much this afternoon for much of the area. Clouds should diminish some this afternoon, especially for the Nebraska portion of the area. This will allow for temperatures to warm up some yet this afternoon. The chances for precipitation are a challenge for this evening and tonight. A few of the models have some precipitation, mainly in north central Kansas this evening and tonight, but some have nothing. Many of the CAMs are not handling the current precipitation very well and have nothing overnight. Have trimmed some from the northern edge and lowered the PoPs a little, but in the end have left some precipitation overnight. Any precipitation that we get should sag to the south during the night and be gone by Monday morning. The main story for the week continues to be heat. Monday through Thursday the upper level ridge builds across the area. Temperatures will start to warm up Monday. Tuesday and Wednesday the temperatures will continue to climb before a surface low and cold front move through Thursday. Temperatures will continue to be warm on Thursday, but will be a little lower. The dew points are expected to be in the mid 60s to around 70 degrees which will push heat index values over 100 degrees. There could be two to three days with high heat index values, as well as little reprieve overnight, as lows only drop to around 70 degrees. The ridge gets pushed back a little bit as a wave moves over it Friday through Sunday. There are some mainly small chances for thunderstorms with this wave and the best chances will be in Nebraska. The main benefit of this wave will be pushing the temperatures back down a little. Highs Friday and Saturday will be mainly in the 90s, and around 90 for Sunday. Still warm, but not as warm and humid as mid week. & && .AVIATION...(For the 06Z KGRI/KEAR TAFS through 06Z Tuesday) Issued at 118 AM CDT Mon Jul 26 2021 Ceiling/visibility/precipitation: The main issue is the possibility of perhaps several hours of at least MVFR-IFR visbility in fairly light/patchy fog early this morning. Even lower categories cannot be ruled out as at least brief VLIFR dense fog is not out of the question, but for now confidence only high enough to run with an IFR TEMPO 10-14Z and will monitor trends closely. Once fog concerns abate, a secondary concern is some chance for at least a brief MVFR ceiling developing mainly during the mid-late morning before scattering out and/or lifting to VFR levels during the afternoon. Kept ceiling VFR in TAFs for now given low confidence in sub-VFR, but did at least introduce scattered MVFR clouds.
