FOR SOUTHEASTERN PHILLIPS...WEST CENTRAL GARFIELD AND SOUTHWESTERN
VALLEY COUNTIES...

At 126 PM MDT, a severe thunderstorm was located 9 miles northeast of
Devils Creek Rec Area, or 38 miles northwest of Jordan, moving east
at 30 mph.

HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage to 
         roofs, siding, and trees.

Locations impacted include...
Devils Creek Rec Area.

The storm which prompted the warning has weakened below severe
limits, and has exited the warned area. Therefore, the warning has
been allowed to expire.  However gusty winds are still possible with
this thunderstorm.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 800 PM MDT for
northeastern Montana.

.DISCUSSION...

In preparation for expected severe thunderstorms this afternoon
and evening, I made some updates and adjustments to the forecast.
SPC has upgraded our eastern zones with an enhanced risk area and
5 percent tornado area. Some isolated thunderstorms are already
setting off over areas associated with the surface low pressure
trough. I chose to increase PoPs to 100 percent for areas most
likely to see precipitation today. Time frame for greatest impact
seems to be between 2 PM and 9 PM. We will likely transition into
severe weather operations early this afternoon.

Previous discussion: Area thunderstorms are lurking just north of
the Canadian border near Daniels and Sheridan Counties early this
morning. This will bring to attention the main concern for today
with severe weather potential across portions of NE Montana. The
best timing will be from 2-8PM today, with large hail and damaging
winds a possibility based on convective parameters, though
ensembles suggest locally heavy rainfall may also be possible,
particular in the northeast.

Warm, dry, and breezy conditions may elevate fire weather concerns
in the southwest, but winds may not be high enough for critical
fire weather conditions. It also should be stated clearly that
fire starts are possible from any lightning that occurs with
thunderstorms.

Scattered storms will again be possible on Friday before upper
ridging leads to drier and notably hotter weather conditions by
the weekend. On Sunday, high temperatures will be well into the
90s for most of the CWA, and may approach 100 degrees for some.

.AVIATION...

PATTERN: The atmosphere is primed for severe thunderstorms with a
surface low pressure trough, significant moisture, and a favorable
wind field. Expect thunderstorms coverage and intensity to
strengthen this afternoon and evening, especially east of MT-
Highway 24.

FLIGHT CONDITIONS: Mainly VFR, then briefly LIFR for NE MT TAF
sites if a thunderstorm happens to pass directly overhead.
Amendments may be needed.

WINDS: Light and variable early, then erratic and gusty this
afternoon and evening near the stronger storms. After about 03Z,
becoming light and variable again.

CENTRAL GARFIELD AND SOUTHWESTERN VALLEY COUNTIES UNTIL 115 PM MDT...

At 1236 PM MDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm 9
miles northwest of Fourchette, or 21 miles east of Zortman, moving
east at 35 mph.

Nickel size hail and wind gusts up to 50 mph will be possible with
this storm.

Locations impacted include...
Fourchette, Devils Creek Rec Area and Sun Prairie.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm.
Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe
shelter inside a building or vehicle.

This storm may intensify, so be certain to monitor local radio
stations and available television stations for additional information
and possible warnings from the National Weather Service.
