Challenging forecast, particularly in terms of the timing and
placement of precipitation across North Central Texas tonight and
Tuesday. The inverted trough which helped trigger the widespread
rainfall across the region this afternoon is pivoting westward
through North Texas this evening, and should be west of the
forecast area by Tuesday. At the same time, it will be losing
much of its definition as it merges with the stationary front
draped over West Texas and Oklahoma by Tuesday morning.

Held onto the highest PoPs tonight over the northern and western
counties ahead of this advancing wave, in closer proximity to the
aforementioned stationary front. Tapered to low chance PoPs in the
eastern and southern zones, where a lack of forcing should limit
overnight convection.

Tuesday should feature a resumption of scattered to numerous
shower and thunderstorm activity, thanks to the continued
presence of copious tropical moisture, weak synoptic scale lift,
and diurnal heating. Having said that, the forcing for ascent
should not be quite as prevalent as it was today, and with
surface-based convergence being harder to find than today,
believe coverage will be a bit less expansive than today. Held
onto good chance/likely PoPs in most locations, with most of this
activity occurring during the mid/late afternoon hours Tuesday.

Highs Tuesday will once again be restrained by the widespread
cloudcover and rainfall, with mid to upper 80s the rule across the
area.

/Wednesday onward/

Wednesday and Thursday will see continued, mainly diurnally-driven
showers and thunderstorms as deep southerly flow continues. PWAT
values will remain near or above 2" for much of the week, meaning
any thunderstorms that do develop will be capable of brief heavy
downpours. Frequent cloud-to-ground lightning strikes will also be
a threat with any thunderstorms. Thunderstorms should remain
disorganized and below severe limits however, owing to weak winds
aloft and little in the way of surface boundaries to focus
initiation and organization of convection.

By the end of the week, forecast models continue to indicate a
cold front approaching the region. There are some slight
differences in timing, but all of them agree that the cold front
should be well inside the FWD CWA by Friday afternoon. For this
reason, opted to increase PoPs above NBM to Likely. PWAT values
look to be above 2" and with moist adiabatic lapse rates expected
in the tropical air mass ahead of the front, there will be some
potential for locally heavy rainfall.

For the holiday weekend, the front will stall and wash out near
the TX Coast. The weakening frontal zone will continue to act as a
focus for shower/thunderstorm development through the weekend. It
looks like the greatest convective chances/coverage will be to our
southeast over the HGX CWA, but at least Chance PoPs are warranted
for the entire FWD CWA as all models continue to generate QPF over
North and Central TX. While it does not look like either Saturday
or Sunday would see an all-day washout, "hit and miss" type
thunderstorms look to remain in the forecast through the weekend,
with coverage generally increasing towards the southeast. Any
thunderstorms that develop would be unlikely to be severe, but
would be capable of producing frequent cloud-to-ground lightning
strikes and heavy downpours. Outside of any thunderstorms, below
normal temperatures look to continue into the holiday weekend,
with highs over the weekend looking to be in the mid to upper 80s.
While it will be much milder than is typical for Independence Day
(average highs are in the mid 90s), it will still be rather humid,
so while not hot, it will remain plenty warm.

Widespread shower and isolated thunderstorm activity will persist
across North Central Texas this evening, before diminishing in
coverage toward midnight due to the loss of daytime heating. The
surface easterly wave responsible for forcing much of this
activity is currently pivoting into west central Texas and will
continue to lose some of its definition overnight and early
Tuesday. Nevertheless, copius amounts of tropical moisture will
continue to sweep northward into North Texas through Tuesday.

One or two more bands of showers with isolated thunderstorms
will sweep northwestward through the D10 terminals early this
evening, followed by a few showers for the rest of the night. Waco
will probably only see a few spotty showers this evening and
overnight. Otherwise, MVFR ceilings will develop areawide by
06-08z, lowering to IFR conditions in the 10-11z timeframe. We
should see some improvement to MVFR conditions by 15z, followed by
VFR ceilings in the 18-19z period Tuesday. After a lull in
precipitation coverage late tonight and early Tuesday, afternoon
heating will once again trigger widespread shower/thunderstorm
activity across D10 and the Waco areas. Didn't go as far as
including TEMPO wording due to uncertainties in timing, but did
include VCTS at all sites after 19z due to the likelihood of
convection in the vicinity during the afternoon.

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for North and Central Texas.

.DAY ONE...Tonight.
Widespread showers and thunderstorms are expected through this
evening. Heavy rain and minor flooding will be the main concerns, but
we can't rule out some small hail and strong winds near stronger
thunderstorms. Coverage of storms is expected to decrease late
tonight.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Tuesday through Sunday.
Isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms will remain in the
forecast through the end of the week. Most thunderstorm activity can
be expected during the afternoon, with frequent cloud-to-ground
lightning strikes and heavy downpours being the main hazards. Severe
weather is not anticipated.

Thunderstorms may become more widespread by Friday and Saturday as a
cold front approaches the region. Severe weather is unlikely, but any
thunderstorms that develop will be capable of producing frequent
lightning and heavy downpours.
