...Afternoon Area Forecast Discussion...

.SHORT TERM /Tonight through Tuesday Night/...

High pressure will remain anchored off the SE coast of the US
through the period. The flow aloft and at the surface will be off of
the GOMEX, transporting abundant moisture northward. PWATS will be
well above normal for this time of year, with values approaching 2"
south of the Interstate 85 corridor. No change in pattern for
Tuesday, so expecting very similar precip timing/coverage to today.

With this type of airmass in place, convection will likely start
earlier in the day again tomorrow, especially in places where the
sun breaks through during the mid/late morning. Models have been
struggling a little with dewpoints, so have adjusted values upwards
of one to two degrees. Locally heavy downpours and lightning will be
the primary hazards.

Also, have kept slight pops in during the overnight periods. Do
think thunder chances decrease significantly with the sun setting,
but shra will have enough fuel to continue overnight.

.LONG TERM /Wednesday through Monday/...

The relentless onslaught of this abnormally moist airmass will
continue through the long term period with a steady fetch of Gulf
moisture flowing into the area keeping PWATs near the
climatological daily maximum. While the upper- level pattern will
remain a bit unsettled through the extended period, the flow will
be weak with the subtropical jet anchored well to the north. this
will allow the weather pattern to be primarily controlled by a
westward stretching ridge extending from the Bermuda High over the
Atlantic Ocean. This southerly flow of moist air will keep
dewpoints near 70 degrees around the Atlanta metro with afternoon
heat indices around 90 degrees. Precipitation will continue to be
diurnally driven with peak chances of showers and thunderstorms
occurring in the afternoon with chances generally circulating
between 30-60 percent each day.

Sct/nmrs shra/tsra likely for the remainder of the afternoon.
Tomorrow should be a lot like today,and expect convection to pop a
littler earlier than normal for the typical summertime diurnal
activity. Sct-bkn MVFR cigs for the remainder of the afternoon
with bkn-ovc IFR likely overnight with some potential for LIFR.

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for portions of North and Central
Georgia.

.DAY ONE...Today and Tonight...

Scattered thunderstorms are expected, primarily this afternoon
and evening. Locally heavy rain, frequent lightning, and gusty
winds will be the primary threats with the stronger storms.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Tuesday through Sunday...

There will be a chance of thunderstorms each day through Saturday,
mainly during the afternoon and evening hours. A few strong to severe
thunderstorms cannot be ruled out on any of these days; however, no
organized or widespread severe weather is expected. The primary
threat from any thunderstorms will be frequent lightning, gusty winds
and brief heavy rain.

At 310 PM EDT...a strong thunderstorm was over Clinchfield, or 7
miles east of Perry...moving north at 15 mph.

  HAZARD...40 to 50 mph wind...frequent cloud to ground lightning
           and heavy rain.

  IMPACT...Expect minor damage to tree limbs and blowing around of
           light...unsecured objects. Heavy rain may cause temporary
           street flooding especially in poor drainage areas.

Some locations in the path of this storm include
Perry, Warner Robins, Centerville, Robins Air Force Base, Hayneville,
Tarversville, Sand Bed, Houston Lake, Grovania, Grove Park, Bonaire,
Kathleen, Klondike and Clinchfield.
