Main forecast concern in the short term period remains extreme heat. Overnight guidance still indicates that upper ridge will build in with sufficient heat and low level moisture to approach or exceed heat advisory threshold of 105. Yesterday's forecast dewpoints were underforecast by 3-5 degrees especially over middle GA so anticipate similar bias in today's forecast. With this in mind, have issued advisory for many areas including Atlanta metro, basically all of CWA except for far north and eastern counties. Pattern continues for Friday so unless significant drying and/or vertical mixing occurs during the afternoon, will likely approach or exceed criteria again. Winds at surface and lowest 5000ft light to nearly calm so less opportunity for deep mixing. Not seeing heat watch/warning criteria (> 110) being met so no watch planned at this time for Friday. As far as clouds and precip should be mostly sunny with perhaps very isolated SHRA/TSRA over far southern zones. Currently have PoPs below 15 percent there so no mention in official forecast. Westerlies around periphery of upper trough begin to dip south into ern TN/wrn SC/NC on Friday so could see some isold/sct storms move into north GA Fri afternoon and evening, perhaps making it as far south as ATL metro. Not seeing any threat for significant severe or flooding at this time. SNELSON LONG TERM /Friday Night through Wednesday/... By Saturday afternoon the upper level high to our west will stretch from the PACNW SE to FL. Our weather will be dominated by the large scale subsidence forcing beneath the high. As a result little cloud coverage and convection is expected with afternoon highs peaking in the mid 90s to low 100s. In addition dewpoints are anticipated to range from the 60s to 70s. These factors combined will result in heat indices of 105F to 110F with the highest indices expected over the southeastern portions of the CWA. Heat headlines will likely be needed for the aforementioned area. Sunday the pattern aloft begins to change as the upper level high contracts and shifts westward and a trough aloft digs across the eastern CONUS sending an attendant surface front through the CWA early Sunday evening. Ahead of the front Sunday afternoon will once again be hot and humid (with the possibility of more heat headlines). The full "impacts' of the front will finally be felt and seen Sunday night into Monday in the form of increased precip chances area wide and decreased afternoon high temperatures.
