.Discussion...
Issued at 402 PM CDT SUN JUL 25 2021

A slight reprieve (relatively speaking) from the extreme heat
today thanks to a combination of a weak boundary, morning
convection, and some cloud cover as heat indices currently reside
primarily in the low to mid 90s. The brief slight break from the
extreme heat is expected to continue into tomorrow, with max heat
indices reaching the mid 90s once more.

By Tuesday, the ridge reestablishes itself, with a 596 dam 500 mb
high developing over central Nebraska. This will send high temps
into the mid 90s with max heat indices over 100 degrees for most
locations.

Unfortunately, it just gets worse from there. The ridge migrates a
little further east and the 500 mb high strengthens to around 598
dam over eastern Kansas for Wednesday into Thursday. This will
send max heat indices into the 105 to 110 degree range for both
Wednesday and Thursday afternoons. The Excessive Heat Warning for
the KC metro continues through at least Wednesday evening, and
very well may need to be extended through Thursday assuming these
trends continue. Heat related products will also likely be needed
for much (if not all) of the rest of the region for mid week.

A cold front is expected to move through the region Thursday
night, which should bring a little bit of relief from the heat as
well as some slight chances for showers and storms.

Generally, VFR conditions are forecast to prevail through the
period. Some shallow fog may develop, primarily along the river
valleys tonight, KSTJ has the best chance, and will be the only
site with a mention at this time. Winds will remain light, out of
the east. Mid-level scattered to broken ceilings will persist at
times.
