Overview:
Hot and humid conditions expected the next several days.
Temperature in the 90s and heat indices near or over 100 will be
the norm. Precip chances on Monday may bring a temporary "cool
down" to near 90, but prolonged heat is still expected into next
week. Little relief is expected during the overnight periods and
thus a heat watch is in effect for the KC Metro. Those spending
significant time outdoors during the next week are particularly
vulnerable.
Details:
Heat builds today as the influence of a large scale ridge over the
Plains becomes more pronounce. With this upper ridge building,
expect the heat to follow suite. Today highs near 90 will be the
norm across the entire area. Thankfully though, our dewpoints will
be in the 65 to 70 range, so today won't be quite as terrible.
Gulf moisture begins to push toward the area on Friday. This will be
the start to several days of hot and steamy conditions. On
Friday, expect highs in the lower 90s and dewpoints reaching the
lower 70s. Heat indices will reach near 100.
On Saturday, the ridge will continue to build across the region.
Highs in the upper 90s will be likely, especially across the KC
metro and in northwest MO. Unfortunately, it's going to feel
quite uncomfortable Saturday afternoon and heat indices will be in
the 100 to 105 range. A few locations may even see 105+ heat
indicies. The other bad news is that relief will be hard to find
during this prolonged heat due to overnight lows in the mid to
upper 70s. Sunday looks like a repeat of Saturday with temps in
the mid 90s and heat indices up to 105. The caveat here is cloud
cover... There are a few models hinting at some low precip chances
during the day on Sunday which may impact temps, however for now
expecting a mainly dry forecast until Sunday night when a
shortwave pulses through the forecast area. This will bring shower
and thunderstorm chances Sunday night into Monday and also bring
a short lived "cool down" with temps near 90.
On Tuesday an upper high will resume building overhead and will stay
in place the next several day. Precip chances will be minimal during
this period. High temperatures temperature in the mid 90s with
heat indices returning to the 100 to 105 range each day.
